Barbra Streisand to sing for Obama

streisand.jpgSinger-actress Barbra Streisand, who originally endorsed Hillary Clinton in the U.S. presidential primary race, has jumped on Barack Obama’s bandwagon with both feet to sing for the newly anointed Democratic nominee at a Beverly Hills fund-raiser next week.  Organizers say the hurriedly planned Sept. 16 event will probably mark Obama’s final stop on the Hollywood political money trail before the November election.

According to political consultant Andy Spahn, a co-host of the fund-raiser, the evening will begin with a dinner for the Illinois senator and about 250 guests at the landmark Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. Dinner will be followed by a reception in Obama’s honor at the main ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, featuring a performance by Streisand and others. The ballroom holds a crowd of up to 800 people.

Seats for the dinner and reception together go for a whopping $28,500 per person, but supporters who just want to hear Babs sing for Obama can get in for as little as $2,500 per ticket, Spahn said. At those prices, the two-part event could bring in nearly $9 million, making it the biggest single Democratic fund-raiser for the current election cycle. The money would be divided between Obama’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

Other members of the hosting committee include DreamWorks studio co-founders Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen. Spahn said the rest of the evening’s entertainment lineup has yet to be confirmed.

Streisand, 66, one of Hollywood’s leading Democratic activists and donors, was a longtime supporter of former President Bill Clinton and backed the presidential primary campaign of his wife until Obama finally clinched the nomination in June. At that point Streisand, an Oscar winner for her 1968 film debut in the musical “Funny Girl,” immediately switched her allegiance to Obama.

Rarely performing in public, Streisand sang at fund-raisers for the last two Democratic presidential nominees — Sen. John Kerry in 2004 and then-Vice President Al Gore in 2000. They both lost to Republican George W. Bush.

Greetings,

What a wonderful and delightful evening. I sincerely hope that the evening will be fill with support, love, and fun. I commend Ms. Barb for her continous progressive views. As a Democrate, Teacher, and Progressive thinker I sincerely hope that Senator Obama will be the next United States President. Education, Fast Rail, Food, Alternative Energy, Health Care, Effective Gobal Communications, Affordable Housing, Infrastructure, Jobs, and Elements of Humanity should be the primary reason to vote for Obama. Obama is the Change Agent, he walks it, talks it, comes from it, and he his highly capable to the orgainize and lead the American Community.

Remember: One Nation, Justice for All, and the History of a Nation that has a powerful pass and a promising future.

Keep the Faith!!

It is truly mind bugging to see all these antipathy and nasty attack toward one simple event. Barbra Streisand has her believe and show her support by contributing her talent for the cause she believes in. It is perfectly legitimate, and, quite frankly, an altruistic behavior. I wonder what is it out there in this election that elicits all those hate-mongers?

\”Streisand sang at fund-raisers for the last two Democratic presidential nominees — Sen. John Kerry in 2004 and then-Vice President Al Gore in 2000. They both lost to Republican George W. Bush.\”

My logical guess and hope is Streisand will sing for the “elite” Obama and he will lose to McCain.

Way to go Barbara. Sing your heart out. Either way it\’s McCain ALL THE WAY!!!!

what i want to know is who’s going to sing for the mccain and the gun-loving mom of 5 who never get to spend time with mom? who’s the loser who’ll play for them? surely it will not be an elitist!!!!

When Barbara liquidates all of her assets, keeps just enough to live a middle class life, and gives all the rest to the poor, maybe then I’ll listen. Until then she’s just another limosine liberal, a huge and utter fraud. Obama is an even bigger Fraud. I bet the community he organized for is no better off now then when he started. Want to bet? I thought not. I’m a Dem voting McCain/Palin.

‘Enough is Enough’. I’m sorry to ‘Rain on Her Parade’, but she’ll be remembering the ‘Way They Were’ with the rest of her ‘People’ when McCain is sworn-in as our president. ‘On a Clear Day’ in America, Babs and Madonna and Paris and Dreyfuss and all the rest of the Hollywood hypocrites can just ‘Cry Me a River’ when it’s all over!

Being talented doesn’t make up for being an idiot!

Please. Yet another nail in the coffin.

Vanity overwhelms Hollywood, and Obama courts the vain who live in extraordinary excess as if that will attract “the everyday American”… It’s insulting to me — “the everyday American” - that any presidential candidate would think I care what Babs or any other performer thinks or who they endorse.

She sang for the last two losing democrats. Three strikes and you’re out Babs.

I hope she sings People…People Who Need People Are the Luckiest People in the World. I think Senator Obama’s presidential campaign demonstrates a new openness to level with the people and have a thoughtful and sincere dialogue, discourse about our concerns. We do indeed need each other. There is nothing weak about that. It can be hard dealing straight up with each other. But, truly what is our choice? War? The world is very interdependent.

Babs is an idiot.

It’s always so touching and inspiring when the wealthy elitist, Marxist-progressive Hollywood pigs wallow together at the trough along with Barbra.

They say it’s over when the fat lady sings and Obama is now Obupkis. He’s already finished and is too stupid to know it.

This news should give McCain/Palin a boost in the polls.

Decadent. The Democratic party is no longer the “party of the people.” It is corrupt and it “selected” Obama and his Chicago political machine.

Babs has sung for two other losers. Obama makes three.

Just Say No Deal. No Obama PUMA!
