Update – Babs backs Obama on radio in battleground states

November 3, 2008

It’s not new that Barbra Streisand is backing Sen. Barack Obama for president. But it is unusual when Streisand goes so far as to take to radio airwaves in battleground states to answer callers’ questions on live shows, which is what she is doing on Monday and Tuesday.

With Monday’s radio campaigning done, Streisand moved on to Florida and other states on Tuesday. She’ll be working the phones again from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. est in this order: WJNO in West Palm Beach, Florida; WEPM in Martinsburg, West Virginia; AURN in Pittsburgh; WXKC-FM in Erie, Pennsylvania; WZAZ in Jacksonville, Florida; and WCBQ in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.

Streisand took calls on these five channels on Monday. They were KPRS in St. Louis, Missouri; WASN/WRBT/WGFT in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; KEZK in St. Louis Missouri; WIKY in Indiana; KPLV in Las Vegas, Nevada; and WYXB in Indianapolis, Indiana.

i really cant believe that people like this are allowed to push people to vote for a certian peresidential candidate. just because someone is famous doesnt mean that everyone in their fan base needs to be persuaded to vote the same as them.. that is just dehumanization to the individual.

Go Barbra. She’s a smart lady and knows her stuff. She doesn’t just speak from her heart like a lot of people in Hollywood. She really does the research. I wish she would run for office.

Barbra Streisand didn’t get where she is by being stupid. As one of the top talents in the world, she is wealthy enough that she could sit on her butt and revel in her fame. But she doesn’t do that. She has made a huge impact on the musical and film world but she is kind enough that she wants to make a difference in the lives of Americans. For that, we should admire her. For all her wealth and fame, she could be a Republican seeking all the benefits they have to offer the wealthy. But she chooses to look out for — forgive me — Joe the Plumber (even though he’s an idiot). Her political acts have made me feel all the better about buying her CDs and DVDs. She’s a first-class act.

I don’t understand why people use words like “push” or “persuaded” when celebs like Streisand use their star power to support a candidate they like.

It assumes that Americans are thoughtless sheep who will listen to anything a famous person says.

Streisand is talented, but she doesn’t have THAT MUCH power — to FORCE the masses to vote for Obama.

That’s why it’s a ridiculous argument. Streisand gets accused of pushing her agenda down people’s throats. The reality is that whoever listens is probably interested. And whoever is not interested can CHANGE THE CHANNEL. Nobody’s pushing anything.

And we should vote the way Barabra says
OR the way Rev. Wright says.
NO, I think this Democrat will vote for McCain.

Wow, here we go again — One more flaky Hollywood airhead to the rescue. These entertainment types make their living PRETENDING to be something or someone they aren’t. In fact, they get so caught up in their own reality that they begin to believe everything they say is brilliant, especially regarding politics. What they end up sounding like is stupid, intolerant, petty, spoiled brats — for BOTH parties. Put this junk reporting into the tabloids and don’t debase the mainstream press.

It is worth noting that 76 American Nobel Prize winners in the “hard” sciences (that means basically all of the living American Physics, Chemistry, and Medicine Nobel Prize winners) also endorse Obama. Follow the links at http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2 008/10/29/nobel/ for the text of the letter. So do many other Democratic and Republican figures from past administrations, retired military “top brass,” and 6 Nobel Prize-winning economists. So Babs is in good company–as are you, if you plan to vote for Obama. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obama_endor sements

I think movie stars are entitled just like any other person to express their views. I really don’t care what Barbara’s personality is like. However, I do respect her right to voice them in any way she chooses. Being pasionate about a candidate shows you have an opinion that you feel others should hear. I say, right on Barbara!

Brian Lee, I said Joe the Plumber is an idiot because he is attending press conferences and taking questions. Someone asked him whether an Obama victory would mean “death to Israel” and he said he thought so. That’s idiotic.

Marilyn is right, everyone has a right to voice their opinions. Unfortunately many can’t. The ones that gave us that right are buried in Arlington National Cemetary, and other national cemetaries. Some of them died at Fort McHenry during the War of 1812, fighting and dying while holding up the flagpole hit early in the bombardment. That’s why the flag was still there for Francis Scott Key to write our National Anthem. Over twelve men died at the flag, but it still waived. Our Stars and Bars that so many have fought and died for so others can be free. Our Stars and Bars that Obama vilolates Federal Law every time he refuses to salute it during the playing of the national anthem. Our Pledge of Alligence he doesn’t say but he wants to lead us. Where to? Did my husband and the soldiers from the Revolutionary War on die in vain?

She’s doing what she can to make people aware of what they can do, that is good use of celebrity power. It’s great to know that stars also care about their own country.

To the person who called Streisand an “airhead” because she is from Hollywood, would the same moniker apply to Ronald Reagan??
