In recent weeks, rumors have swirled around Mariah Carey, 39, that the singer, who recently married Nick Cannon, 28, is pregnant. The speculation came to a head in a taste test, of a sort, on Wednesday when the talk show host challenged Carey to reveal the truth by tempting her with a glass of champagne.

On her talk show, Ellen asked Carey if she were pregnant and when the singer declined to answer, Ellen produced two glasses of champagne for a toast.

“I can’t believe you did this to me, Ellen,” Carey said to DeGeneres.

“What? Let’s toast to you not being pregnant,” DeGeneres said.

The pop star put the glass to her lips but refused to drink in the bubbly. Even though DeGeneres took that lack of a drink to mean Carey was pregnant, the singer still refused to play along. She told DeGeneres, “I only drink after 3 p.m.”

As with Ashlee Simpson, who also denied she was pregnant months ago until she could no longer hide the fact, time will tell with Carey.

Okay, guys. Lay off. Most women don’t want to confirm it until after the first 3 months.

Didn’t she just say a few months ago that she never wanted to have children?
