Time to say bye-bye to Jacko and Miley?

December 31, 2008

MICHAEL JACKSON-JAPAN/(Writing and reporting by Alex Dobuzinskis)

It’s been an eventful year in celebrity news, and even if it has been light on scandals , stars held the attention of fans.

But some big names, notably Michael Jackson and Miley Cyrus, appear to have worn out their welcome, according to a fan poll from celebrity Web site Parade.com.

Some  41 percent of respondents said Jackson, who turned 50 in 2008 with no sign of making good on repeated promises of a comeback,  should officially retire. They also said the pop star’s antics are the most disturbing behavior from any Hollywood star.

Fans chose Disney star Miley Cyrus as the most overexposed celebrity. At the age of 16.

The wedding of comedian Ellen DeGeneres and actress Portia de Rossi ranked as the year’s most exciting nuptial, with 29 percent of respondents choosing it as their favorite. The wedding was made possible by a California court ruling allowingt same-sex weddings that voters rejected in November,  but not before several gay and lesbian stars were married. ellen

Singers Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale clinched the year’s craziest baby name spot by naming their son Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale. Some 48 percent of poll respondents called the name, which brings to mind famous Zuma Beach in Southern California, the most out-there name of the year.

Fans thought  pop diva Britney Spears had the most improved reputation. As for the relationship between singer Lindsay Lohan and celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson, only 1 percent of respondents said that couple is “most likely to succeed.”

How would you have voted?  Have Miley and Jacko really outstayed their welcome or would you still like to have them around for another few years?

Comments

The Poll doesn’t say that Miley should go away.

It means that they wish the Pap’s, Tabloids, Gossip sites, and Blog sites and such, would stop watching her 24/7 and just let her alone be a teenager. They should reserve their coverage for her prepared public appearances like concerts, movie premeires, TV appeareance or her show, Red carpet events, etc… and stop covering her trips to the Ice cream shopp, her bike rides, her driving lessons, her trips to the mall etc…

Her fan base is growing (broading) and not showing any signs of decline. Her concert tour was hugh, her movie was big seller, her TV show is still on top, her Album went platium, she had a couple of songs on the Top 40 radio, she still commands hugh crowds at concerts. and her Hannah Montana merchandize is still a big seller.

Michael Jackson dosent need to retire because he is the best in the buisness and will always be an ispiraion to very singer and dancer. He is the best and will always be the best
Just becuase he hasent released new material dosent mean that he still hasent got the talent, the King of Pop will comeback and reclaim his throne because ther is no other and will never ba any one else better than MICHAEL JACKSON.
All his fans are waiting impatienly for him becuase he’s unique and his standards of music is unreachable.
He gorgeus and beautiful and his innocence will always stay within him
the tabloids and bad media has put MJ down to make money but he will comeback stronger that ever and no one can stop the king
He is not wierd he’s just different and was proven innocent

No Mike shouldnt retire, not yet I think he should make another album and try to stay out of headlines for the wrong things. One more album which will hopefully take peoples minds off of all the negative press which has been reported about him and out him back of people mind for his music

miley should stay she beutiful forget everyone else

Miley Cyrus and company took on average 300K a night on tour. This is after merchandising and venue fee’s. She had over 31 dates last year making about 9.3 million. Lets say she gets half of that as actual income. I don’t think she’ll be hurting any time soon.

Even if she looses 50% of her fan base she’s still going to be a huge draw.

The fact is Disney made her a star and like Spears and Timberlake and Aguilara she’ll have an opportunity to make herself a name on her own.

She’s positioned herself perfectly to do so by doing the “Best of both worlds” tour where she does half the concert as Hannah Montana and the other half as herself.

She’s also got writing credits on a good amount of the songs so she’ll see income from that far exceeding her immediate popularity.

If she’s smart and chooses or writes good songs she could have a career that could span decades.
