Stooges reloaded: Penn, Carrey and Del Toro

Larry, Moe and Curly, better known as the Three Stooges, never won an Oscar, but in a new movie two of the actors said to be playing the classic comedy trio will have three Oscars between them. Sean Penn has two Academy Awards and Benicio Del Toro has one of the trophies.
Hollywood trade paper Variety reports that Penn will play Larry and Del Toro has been tapped to play Moe. “Yes Man” star Jim Carrey is reportedly in negotiations to play Curly, which will require some weight gain on his part.
The Farrelly brothers, Bobby and Peter, are set to direct “The Three Stooges” based on a screenplay they wrote. The movie will be a project of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the studio that signed up the real Three Stooges in 1933 to star in a series of shorts and feature films before they moved on the next year to Columbia Pictures and a long, successful run with that studio.
If Penn, Carrey and Del Toro do eventually end up on-screen as ”The Three Stooges,” it will be quite the all-star cast, but it’s only fitting since the Stooges are so well loved. Somehow though, we don’t expect Larry to slap Moe over the head with an Oscar.

Not its not the right combination of actors. the Stooges were unique in their talent of laughter. Now adays it will not be appreciated. Due to the violent nature of their humor. I am sure there will be an uproar.
Carrey is not a good source for Curly as Chikess(cant spell) is from the Shield. I am sure he can do the job just as well or better than Carry Penn has the snozz just like Larry..but I dont think he could cower like Larry did. Del TOro..never seen him act..nor do I know what he looks like. never heard of him. with a good wig Kevin Spacey could do a good MOE
i personally think its a great selection of actors. In my mind, Sean Penn has a very similar face to be playing Larry. Same with Benicio Del Toro to be playing Moe. Carrey playing Curly will be the biggest
Benicio Del Toro as Moe.. yeah, I can see it. He’s got Moe’s squinty eyes. FYI, Del Toro did Sin City, What We Lost In The Fire and 21 Grams.

The one I absolutely cannot get past is the sulking, brooding Penn as ANY comedy figure… we’ll see. If he pulls an Oscar out of this, I’ll be flabbergasted!
When I first saw this cast I was thrilled … these three are all brilliant actors, each one with his own style and trademark … not to mention the Farelly’s who are unique in their sweet way.
I am looking very much forward to see how it blends: Sour, sweet, serious and funny.
