Kanye West and Taylor Swift — the backlash begins

September 14, 2009

When rap artist Kanye West took the microphone from country singer Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night and  told viewers that Beyonce should have won her awkanye-west-drinkingard instead, he was not likely to win many friends.

And sure enough, celebrities have taken to the Web to denounce Kanye’s actions faster than viral video of the incident, which you can view here.

Pop star Kelly Clarkson wrote a kind of open letter to West in a profanity-laden blog post, “I was actually nominated in the same category that Taylor won and I was excited for her … so why can’t you be?? … I just pity you because you’re a sad human being.”

“I Kissed a Girl” singer Katy Perry wrote a crude insult to West on her Twitter page, and then had this summation to describe the rap star’s actions, “It’s like U stepped on a kitten.”

And this year’s “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert wrote on his Twitter page, “Kanye needs to chill. He freaks out every year. It ain’t that deep man.”

What did West himself have to say about the whole brouhaha that got him kicked out of the VMAs?

Soon after the incident, he posted an apology to the 19 year-old Swift on his blog. But he has since taken it down.  Celebrity website TMZ reported that West passed through a New York airport on Monday morning, but he had nothing to say about the incident to the paparazzi on hand.

Fans also took a dim view of  West’s actions.  In a poll on website , 98 percent said they believe his apology to Swift was “too little, too late.” Forty-seven percent of respondents said they believe the backlash against West will last forever.

On a positive note, Beyonce’s decision to call Swift on stage later in the night to allow her to finish her speech was popular with just about everyone. Sixty-six percent of the Popeater respondents said it was the best part of the Sunday night awards show.

In another wrinkle to the story, a Reuters photo above taken at the VMA event shows West apparently drinking from a liquor bottle as his girlfriend Amber Rose posed for photographers. Did he finish the whole bottle before he got on-stage?

Can Kanye recover from this, or is it an outburst too far?

This is the second time Kanye West has done this. He did it at the 2006 European MTV awards after a european band won best video… he stormed the stage at that event too… claiming his video was better…. He’s doing a great job of making himself look like an ass, and doing an even better job of ruining his own career. I think he is deluded…. saw a live MTV show with him and he acted like some holy than thou preacher…. pretending his music was a vehicle for change or something…. it’s pop music Kanye! Get over yourself! He’s not right in the head like! The vocoder can’t hide his bad attempt at singing either.

I think Kanye,Jay Z,Beyonce, and Jay Leno all got what they wanted, free press. Kanye and Jay Z have a new song. Jay Leno got a new show. Of course Beyonce would be the good gal she is married to Jay Z. Kanye just happens to be on Jay’s new show the next night??? Is that great timing or what?? Smoke and mirrors. Is Kanyeand the rest that stupid or are we?

I was listen of Kayne West music prior to him making ahuge jerk out of himself. Taylor is a kid and he went way over the top with his attention seeking stunt. How anyone can endorse this guy after this is beyond me. I hope this has a major impact on his career after this.

Anyone really that shocked? Money obviously doesn’t buy class, intelligence, courtesy or respect. Chris Brown, Serena and once again, the mother of all jerkoffs – Kornhole West! What role models to be idolized!! Unevolved primates !!

I think kanye will over come his bads and come out a good sport lets pray for him.

I was a big kanye fan. Loved his music, so crazy about the man until now. Kanye you are such a little man to do what you did, you have never learned respect and honor and never will. Is that what you are teaching to the kids that admire you and buy your music? You are teaching them disrepsect and this is something that we DONT need teaching our children. And what was that bullshit appology on the Leno show? That was not an appology i dont know what that was. Get off the drugs Kanye and check yourself into a good rehab and leave the entertainment world and the wonderful people in it alone.Ban this guy from future events. He cant be trusted.

Kanye is “punk a**” thug who thinks he can say whatever he wants no matter who he hurts. What makes this small “speck of a human being” act if he has the right to do these acts of ignorance! Don’t give this guy anymore attention than he deserves! Don’t listen or buy any of his recordings and end his disgraceful and unappreciated career! Send him off just like Chris Brown, and let’s see these two thugs working at McDonalds like the rest of us! Their Moms should be ashamed of these two!

I agree with everyone on this BLOG especially replacing the slang word Sh*# with WEST. I gotta go outside and pick up the dog WEST of the patio but lets go further and replace K-nine with Kanye. So dont step in the Kanye West… oh wait a minute I should not disgrace dogs with the name Kanye, they are better than him for sure. Kanye go euthanize yourself, the world is a much better place with the king of poop !! I am sure you all know he dubbed himself the new king of pop after MJ passed. Kanye the king of poop or the king of West. A fitting title for the biggest idiot ever.

I’ve had it with this douche, his many tirades and undertones of racism in his outbursts. Dissing Taylor Swift, although, I’ve never been a fan of her music, was the straw. If he wanted to get attention it backlashed. You don’t humiliate a young girl in front of millions of people and think it’s alright. I’m glad he’s getting a major backlash from everyone. We put him there to where he can diss certain people in his wake. We’ll take him down by not supporting him anymore. Hit him where it hurts in the pocket!
