Hefner wants Miley Cyrus for Playboy - when she’s legal!

Posted by: Michelle Nichols

miley2.jpgPlayboy’s 82-year-old found Hugh Hefner wants 15-year-old “Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus to pose for his adult magazine — when she’s old enough.

“She’d be welcomed in the magazine. Very pretty lady,” Hefner told the “Extra” celebrity news show.

While Cyrus said she was embarrassed by sexually provocative photos of her that were recently posted online and another photo of her wrapped only in a bed sheet that was published in “Vanity Fair,” Hefner describes them as innocent.miley3.jpg

“I think to make such a big to do over something as innocent as those photos, I think is a reflection on how schizophrenic America is about sexuality,” he said.

What do you think about Hefner’s offer?

Motherhood motivates Nicole Kidman in U.N. work

Actress Nicole Kidman says being a mother motivates her work as a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador in the global fight to stem violence against women.nic.jpg

Kidman, who is seven months pregnant, is an ambassador for the U.N. Development Fund for Women and launched a Web site petition on Tuesday at U.N. headquarters in New York as part of a campaign to “Say No to Violence against Women.”

“I’m a mother, I have a child on the way, I have two children in the world and a lot of (my motivation) is about realizing the things that are wrong and how can I contribute,” she told a news conference.

“What are the things I can contribute to help my children have a better life and help other children around the world have a better life and other citizens of the world have a better life,” she said.

Kidman has two teenage children from her marriage to actor Tom Cruse and is expecting a baby with her second husband, country star Keith Urban.

First Lady Laura Bush hosts “Today” — what did you think?

Posted by: Michelle Nichols

default.jpgU.S. First Lady Laura Bush hosted NBC’s “Today” show on Tuesday using the opportunity to lather mayonnaise and drip hot sauce on a bun in a Po’ Boy making contest, writes Tim Gardner.

“This is the first one,” Bush said when asked if she had ever made a New Orleans-style sandwich before. “But it is certainly not the first one I’ve ever eaten.”

The first lady received a trumpet from New Orleans for winning the contest, which was judged by her daughter Jenna.

Also, in a pre-taped tour of the family’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, Bush touted green aspects of the home, which is partially heated with geothermal power. “We could and we’ve discussed putting one wind mill out here because, as you can tell, we have enough wind to generate electricity” she said as the wind toussled her hair.

Bush also spoke about sending their twins Jenna and Barbara to separate camps when they were growing up to increase their individuality and interviewed children’s horror author R.L. Stine.

While First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt held her own women-only press conferences and Jackie Kennedy took the press on a tour of the White House, Laura Bush was the first sitting First Lady to host the “Today” show, NBC bragged.

Did you watch Laura Bush host “Today”? How would you rate her appearance?

Britney Spears, a Madonna wannabe

Posted by: Michelle Nichols

With all that’s going on in Britney Spears’ life these days –lost her kids, lost control of heraffairs, some might even say lost her mind (although, one would have to see the medical reports to say for certain) — she probably did not need formerflame Justin Timberlake poking fun at her.

But there he was on Monday, inducting Madonna into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York and saying,”The world has long been full of Madonna wannabes, and I might have even dated couple.”

“Madonna has changed the way our world sounded, she’s changed the way our world looked and somehow she still found time to publicly kiss at least someone who I may or may not have kissed myself — while I was in the audience,” he said.

“Of course you all know who I’m talking about — Sean Penn,” jokedTimberlake.

Timberlake said he has co-written and co-produced half the tracks on Madonna’s new album “Hard Candy,” which is released next month. He spoke affectionately of Madonna injecting a shot of B12 into his bottom after he told her he was feeling unwell while they were working on the album in London.

“She looks at me and she says ‘nice top shelf’ and that was one of the greatest days of my life,” he said.

Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Leonard Cohen, rocker John Mellencamp, British pop band The Dave Clark Five and instrumental group The Ventures. You can see the video here.

So what if my mum is Posh Spice, watch my moves …

cruz1.jpgVictoria Beckham’s youngest son, Cruz, who will shortly turn three, stole the show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday when he joined his mother on stage during the Spice Girl’s reunion concert.

As Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton sang their hit “Mama” in front of a sold out crowd, all but one of their seven children joined them on stage.

But as his mother sang, Cruz — whose dad is soccer star David Beckham — made himself at home by showing off his breakdancing skills, which even included a head spin, and getting the loudest cheers from the mostly female audience. Looks like there might be another performer in the family……

It’s not easy being Madonna’s daughter…..

Posted by: Michelle Nichols

It’s not easy being the daughter of one of the world’s biggest pop stars.
Madonna’s daughter Lourdes sparked a few chuckles on Wednesday while taking questions from reporters at a fund-raising event at the United Nations hosted by her mother to aid Malawi orphans and the U.N. Childrens Fund (UNICEF).madonn.jpg
The 11-year-old let slip that her mother had been “very stressed” about the event. Then when Lourdes was asked what was the most important thing she learned from her mother, before she was able to answer Madonna quipped “think before you speak.”
Lourdes, Madonna’s daughter with her former fitness trainer Carlos Leon, appeared totally at ease on the red carpet (which was actually black for the Gucci sponsored event). But when asked what it was like to be Madonna’s daughter, she said “it’s hard,” before she was rushed away.
Madonna also has a biological son, Rocco, and soon-to-be-adopted Malawian son, David, with husband director Guy Ritchie. She casually hinted there could be more adoptions in the future.
When a reporter asked if Madonna ever felt like she wanted to just take home all the children in need, she said: “Not all of them, but I could handle a few more.”

J.Lo “gets out of the house” for Madonna’s U.N. fundraiser

Posted by: Michelle Nichols

A heavily pregnant Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony hit the United Nations on Wednesday for singer Madonna’s star studded fund-raising dinner for Malawi jlo.JPGorphans and the U.N. Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
“We feel great, we’re happy to be here for such a great cause — it takes a lot to get me out of the house these days,” said Lopez, who was dressed in a brown Gucci dress and joked with reporters that she might have to sneak out of the dinner if she went into labor!
Amid media reports she is expecting more than one bundle of joy, Lopez simply smiled when asked if she was expecting twins.
Unsurprising, most of the stars who walked the black carpet were dressed in Gucci, which paid for the entire event, although Billy Joel’s wife, TV host Katie Lee, admitted his suit was from the Italian designer’s “last season.”
Gucci Chief Executive Mark Lee said the event had already raised $3.7 million “before the guests sat down to dinner” and would raise more through a celebrity auction. Alicia Keys, Timbaland and Rihanna were also slated to perform.

Dennis Hopper, the poet, thrills NY Fashion Week

Posted by: Michelle Nichols

He can ride a chopper, coach basketball — at least in the movies — and in real life, Academy Award nominated actor Dennis Hopper is pretty good at poetry, too.

hopper.jpg Hopper delighted the crowd at the theatrical G-Star Raw show at New York’s Fashion Week on Tuesday, strutting down the catwalk reciting Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If.”

Gracing the front row of the show of largely denim designs, which saw models crisscrossing the catwalk and also riding a conveyor belt down the middle, were actress Heather Graham and Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes of rock band Duran Duran.

Hopper was nominated for an Oscar in 1970 for Easy Rider and in 1987 for Hoosiers.

Backstage luxury for New York fashionistas - it’s a tough life!

Posted by: Michelle Nichols

Celebrities and fashion equal publicity — a mix that has seen a car company, a hotel chain and a credit card business jump on board the New York’s Fashion Week in the hope of giving their brands a fashionable boost.
With most shows at the Fashion Week tent headquarters running at least 30 minutes late, celebrities and other V.I.P.’s have plenty of time to cool their heels backstage at the American Express Skybox, the Mercedes Benz Star Lounge and or the W Hotels Jet Set Lounge. mb2.jpg
Mercedes Benz cars will feature in the “Sex and the City” movie coming out later this year so the Star Lounge takes its inspiration from Alexander McQueen’s designs worn on the hit television series. It has a Scottish hunting lodge theme, with tartan covering the walls and ceiling, antler chandeliers, cow skin rugs on the floor and a large Chesterfield lounge.
Ferdinand Froning, Mercedes Benz Hollywood liaison, said the company hoped that by sponsoring fashion events around the world, the company hoped to attract younger, female buyers and show them that their cars are “very fashionable.”
The Jet Set Lounge takes a sleeker purple and silver look, while the Skybox — which overlooks two of the runways — has a simple black and white look.
And for those who want to escape the fashion week tents, celebrity stylist and television host Robert Verdi has created a midtown “Luxe Laboratory” where fashion and beauty editors can have their hair, nails and make-up done, have something to eat or just kick back on the couch and watch movies on a 103 inch television screen.
Nice job if you can get it!

Designer Betsey Johnson cartwheels down the runway to celebrate 30 years in fashion

Posted by: Michelle Nichols

Eclectic U.S. designer Betsey Johnson celebrated 30 years in the business with a cartwheel down the runway at New York’s Fashion Week on Monday in front of celebrities including hip hop mogul Russell Simmons, rocker Joan Jett and model/talk betsey.jpgshow host Tyra Banks.
The 65-year-old showed her agility after bursting through a 30th birthday banner at the end of her Parisian themed show, which had brightly colored light bulbs hanging over cafe tables lining the runway and models in berets tracked with spotlights through a smoky atmosphere.
“I love my company, I love going to work, I love all the people, it’s just a fun job,” Johnson told Reuters backstage, where bunches of brightly colored balloons hung from the clothes racks and a sign encouraged models to “dig it, cool it, own it.”
Along with showing her latest collection, which featured sequins, polka-dots, florals and animal prints, Johnson also displayed her “favorite oldies,” taken mostly from collections in the late 70s and early 80s.
