I’m glad to see you’ve changed your attitude towards Kickstarter, Felix. It is a great tool for those who cannot get funding from conventional sources.

As for the “businessman who was genuinely offended at how cheap the effective funding cost was”, it’s not funding, it’s pre-sales and validation of an idea. Even companies that don’t need funding are using Kickstarter to gauge interest in their product. And why is he offended by how “cheap” the funding is? These are ventures that people like him wouldn’t fund at any valuation, so they’re really not cheap. If you start a company that no VC will invest in, even at a ridiculously low valuation, they are basically saying it’s worthless. The Kickstarter “partners” are placing a slightly higher value on it, as they take on the risk that a product won’t ship or perform as advertised.
