I haven’t been able to find documentation of this, but It’s there. Bharucha also tried to get Cooper’s Engineering school into Bloomberg’s NYCTech engineering campus on Roosevelt Island. (It’s also curious to note that Bloomberg is set to be this year’s commencement speaker.) Aside from voting in Richard Branson as Cooper’s 13th president, I’ve always felt the most responsible thing to do would be to ‘cool down the beast’ by closing down for a few years to level out the costs and debts, if possible. However long it takes to preserve its essence, which is quality education due not to the purchase of big name faculty and state of the art facilities, but to the relationships developed there. At Cooper, everyone is a student. We’ve already developed an institution to foster the best learning environment possible on minimal resources, and have been for 154 years. What we need to do is nurture that development, and grown from within, not outward toward some white rabbit technologically advanced ideal. It only takes a brief skim of Bharucha’s wikipedia page to see what he’s after, and that it has little to do with what is Cooper Union.

It’s not too late to get the likes of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates on board, literally and figuratively, and replace those greedy and stupid bozos who are just in it for personal gain and fame.

He’s the single biggest individual villain in the Cooper story, and it’s a vicious irony that Cooper’s latest Form 990 shows him being paid $1,307,483 in 2011 — after he left Cooper’s presidency.”

Still. We’re going to right this ship, hell or high water.

You think George Lucas would be interested? I know he’s into education issues…

I had not heard of Cooper Union until the recent NY Times article but have read more since then and it seems Cooper Union is the type of institution the Gates Foundation would consider supporting
