Record-setting bank forfeiture at ING ignites debate over lack of banker prosecutions

NEW YORK, June 20 (Thomson Reuters Accelus) – A lack of any criminal prosecutions associated with the U.S. government’s deal last week in which Dutch bank ING agreed to forfeit a record $619 million for helping Iranians and Cubans pump billions of dollars through the U.S. financial system has drawn accusations that U.S. law enforcement agencies would rather collect fines than punish individual executives. FRANKFURT/LONDON, Nov 3 (Reuters) – Neelie Kroes’s campaign to shrink banks and launch vast asset sales has angered bankers, who accuse the firebrand European competition commissioner of kicking the industry when it’s down.Investment bankers close to some of the bailed-out lenders blame Kroes for undermining attempts to rebuild the once-lucrative industry by forcing massive, near-simultaneous asset sales, while banning acquisitions.

Ireland sees EU support for “bad bank” valuation

Ireland to spend 54 billion euros for “bad bank”

DUBLIN, Sept 16 (Reuters) – Ireland will spend 54 billion euros on resuscitating its financial system and economy after a brutal property crash, ramping up its national debt and leaving the door open for further capital injections into lenders.

EU raises doubts about ING, Dutch loan deal

AMSTERDAM, Sept 15 (Reuters) – The European Commission has extended a review of a 22 billion euro ($32 billion) loan portfolio guarantee between ING and the Dutch state, saying the government may have paid too much.
