As India’s Singh heads for Bangladesh, China looms

NEW DELHI/DHAKA (Reuters) – India’s jostling with China for resources and influence will be the backdrop to a visit to Bangladesh by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh next week, looming large over expected progress on a border dispute, water sharing and trade.

New Delhi’s relations with its eastern neighbour have warmed thanks to Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s clampdown on separatist insurgents in India’s isolated north-east who long sheltered across the shared border.

Wearing a somber suit and red tie, Chavez talked about the reasons for his hair loss, saying it was a sign the chemotherapy was working against fast-growing cells such as those associated with cancer.

CARACAS (Reuters) – Looking stronger after cancer treatment, Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez said on Thursday he felt reborn, phoenix-like, on his 57th birthday, in a sign the socialist believes he is overcoming his illness.

Venezuela anti-Chavez leader rejects graft case

CARACAS (Reuters) – The front-runner to face Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez in an election next year said on Saturday a corruption investigation ordered by the country’s top judge showed the government feared his growing popularity.

Popular candidates have in the past been excluded from running in elections during Chavez’s government, and some say the investigation against opposition leader Gov. Henrique Capriles could be intended to block his 2012 run.
