If former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani had his way, New York Yankees manager Joe Torre will keep his job despite the Yankees getting knocked out of the American League playoffs.
The Yankees’ principal owner, George Steinbrenner, has made noises about firing his long-time manager for failing to advance past the Cleveland Indians in the race to the baseball World Series.
Cleveland closed out New York on Monday with a 6-4 victory, taking their best-of-five series three games to one.
Asked at a CNBC debate of Republican candidates whether Torre will keep his job, Giuliani said: “God willing.”
“Joe Torre is the best manager in the history of the Yankees, at least in the modern era. And he’s my friend,” the Republican presidential front runner said.
