Former Tennessee Republican Sen. Fred Thompson won’t be spending any time in the early primary state of New Hampshire trolling for support between now and Jan. 3.
Thompson, a latecomer to the 2008 presidential race, instead will focus exclusively on campaigning in Iowa ahead of its Jan. 3 caucuses, his campaign spokesman Jeff
Sadosky said.
In Iowa the former television and movie actor has recently polled in third place, drawing between eight and 11 percent support, trailing former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Meanwhile in New Hampshire, which holds its nominating contest on Jan. 8, he trailed badly there drawing mostly low single-digit support behind most of the Republican field.
“Obviously, New Hampshire is after Iowa, and you can expect us there after the caucuses,” said Sadosky.
