A couple interesting tidbits in the latest polling data from Reuters/Zogby out this rtx4kvu.jpgmorning.

While a statistical dead heat on the Republican side between former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, they are drawing their support from very different quarters of the country.

Giuliani received 33.6 percent support in the eastern part of the country and 26.4 percent in the western portion. He received only 16.9 percent and 16.2 percent in the south and central parts of the United States, respectively.

In contrast, Huckabee drew 34.4 percent support in the south and 24.2 percent in the central part of the United States. In the west, he drew a mere 7.6 percent support and 21.2 percent in the east, the poll found.

Another storm cloud the poll revealed for the next president is the U.S. outlook. The survey found that two-thirds of those surveyed believe the United States is on the wrong track while one-quarter think the country is heading in the right direction.

Almost 41 percent said they think the U.S. economic policy was performing poorly while 16.7 percent said it was good and just 4.6 percent said it was excellent.

And more Americans think the United States is headed for a recession in 2008, 43.4 percent versus 40 percent from the previous Reuters/Zogby survey.
