U.S. Rep. Ron Paul — the soft-spoken Texan who has opposed the Iraq war and a ban on same-sex marriages — had something to cheer about in losing the opening round in the race for the U.S. presidency.
Though Paul finished fifth in the Iowa Republican caucuses, the 72-year-old maverick placed far ahead of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is running first in national polls.
With more than 85 percent of the precincts reporting, Paul had 10 percent of the vote compared to 4 percent for Giuliani who spent little time in the state. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won with 34 percent.

Iowa has clarified a few things. First, the average Iowa citizen is still deep asleep and brainwashed. To vote Huckabee or Romney is a clear indicator of such. Second, Dr. Paul is a powerful force who was off 3rd and 4th place by a mere 3% - all done with almost no attention from the mainstream media. If ever there was a time for Ron Paul supporters to be excited and motivated, that time is now!
- Posted by PatriotOneI am a Dem in NJ — I urge all Ron Paul supporters to keep the MoGO going - if he makes the General election ill vote for him — i tried to change my affiliation for the primary but i missed the deadline — i will be buying a few Ron Paul Tshirts - wake up to some honesty america Ron is da man!

I think the author meant Ron is opposed to the Iraq war and opposed to a ban on same-sex marriage. That’s the way I read it anyways.
- Posted by TinaThe reason CNN showed the portion of pie blank was due to Rudy not having a good showing. Out of sight out of mind. If rudy had Paul’s numbers they would have shown it and a sliver of pie showing “others” for paul and hunter. The game is rigged and I hope NH voters will turn this country around in a single night.
- Posted by u2canbfmjI garner from this election in Iowa that the state of Iowa likes Big Taxes and wants an Evangelical to lead the country. Wow.
- Posted by Gigi BowmanI don’t!
I’m trying not to be discouraged, but it is astounding how complete the control of msm has become. This, coupled with this nations history of ‘electing’ those with the most money is not a good sign. I’ve donated to Dr. Paul twice, have the bumper stickers and yard sign and I’m trying to illuminate my friends and family. Somebody give me some hope.
- Posted by TomI believe when all precincts are actually tallied Ron Paul will be in fourth place. Why , 12 hours + after the caucus are almost 70 precincts still not reporting? This must be looked into immediately by everyone before people like McCain and Thompson get a placing in a tie for third.
- Posted by TAORon Paul is THE story of this first caucus. Everyone was expecting a Huck first place. But few expected the 10% victory that Ron Paul would receive and he owned Giuliani(so called front runner).
If Ron, a so called “fringe” candidate can do this well in Iowa. I can’t wait to see New Hampshire results.
Cover this MEDIA!!!
AMAZING!
- Posted by AndyThis cannot happen again! We MUST storm the media!!!! They must not be allowed to control the public with thier lies. We need an a NATIONAL Ron Paul chat Room with audio capability! The room must be include all of Ron Paul and the constitutions major issues including the voiceless media, the mouths of Sauron and their treachery. The Ron Paul blimp has internet capablilities and can report the results of all of the caucus’s county to county. We would need an experienced Ron Paul Representative and reporter to keep us up to date with Ron Paul. If the American Public are so dumbed down as not to realize the urgency of Ron Paul’s presidency then me must give them a dumb Ron Paul Reality TV show that can keep them entertained. We Need a cable T.V. show. Last but not least we need IDEAS to defeat this 7 headed monster that has swallowed up our neighbors consciousness or we will see the death of democracy here in the last free place on earth.
- Posted by Cory3.5% separated 3rd and 5th place. About 3,000 people. Winning Iowa is a curse. Look at history, Iowa elects such people as Pat Robertson. Most of the people who won Iowa lost the nomination.
Thank God at least 10% of Iowa has common sense.
CNN’s pie chart was a disgrace. They have joined faux news in the trashcan of useless media.
I really fear for our country.
- Posted by Dale LeganThe blackout continues. Although I had hoped we’d beat Thompson, he may still drop out as he has little money. I’ll send Dr. Paul another check today. If you look at his online charts contributions are up today after getting 10% in Iowa. Rudy got slammed. Good. Our numbers are as good as Kerry’s and Edwards were at this time in ‘04 so to insist he is still not a top tier possibility is extremely ignorant. What can we do to get a better finish in NH is the next question. Boycott Faux and lets hope ABC gets a whiff of integrity and lets Dr. Paul have a voice. Vote Ron Paul.
- Posted by MichaelO.K., fifth place, but 3rd and 4th were tied and only 3% ahead (13%>10%) of Paul, I think it’s a good thing.
- Posted by JTThank you Reuter for reporting this. I’ll watch you from now on. Thank you, thank you, and thank you
- Posted by LuuBao Nguyenwhy was the abscence of any ambient interest for VP Cheney discussed? - I understand he would have beaten most of the field in Iowa. This is a conspiracy by MSM to discredit this great Warlord and Leader of men.
God Bless

It can never be too often repeated, that the time for fixing every essential right on a legal basis is while our rulers are honest and ourselves united. From the conclusion of this war (Revolutionary War) we shall be going downhill. It will not then be necessary to resort every moment to the people for support. They will be forgotten, therefore, and their rights disregarded. They will forget themselves, but in the sole faculty of making money, and will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights. The shackles, therefore, which shall not be knocked off at the conclusion of this war, will remain on us long, will be made heavier and heavier, till our rights shall revive or expire in a convulsion.”

Vote for a change! Ron Paul in 2008!

- Posted by shaneCan anyone doubt that merely fair and equal media coverage would result in a soaring of Dr. Paul’s popularity and its reflection in the polls? The Larry King and John Stossel interviews (available on NewsWatch.org) alone would have done the trick. We, unfortunately are a poor match for the influence of the media ownership. The fact that the working journalists are complicit is discouraging. You’d think they should know better.
- Posted by Stewart OgilbyLiterally 100 additional Paul supporters in some key precincts would have given him a third place finish. It’s important for all of us to be active and help get others more active! Everyone working together can make a difference in protecting our liberty and America’s economic future!
- Posted by KevinThe status quo always has a problem with change. A changing of the guard in the White House means they lose the power to control what you think. This is not a conspiracy or control of evil men who meet every 6 months on a volcanic island. This is business.

As an observer from Canada, I initially thought that the supposed “mainstream media bias” against Ron Paul was bunk! I no longer think that anymore! The evidence seems fairly clear.
However, it is amazing that most mainstream medias around the world mentioned the top four Republican finishers in their PRINT EDITIONS and then also mentioned sixth place finisher, Rudy Guiliani, but most didn’t mention Ron Paul (except on BLOGS like this one.)
I wonder how Fox News will justify excluding Ron Paul from their Jan 6 debate while allowing Rudy Guiliani to participate?
