U.S. Rep. Ron Paul — the soft-spoken Texan who has opposed the Iraq war and a ban on same-sex marriages — had something to cheer about in losing the opening round in the race for the U.S. presidency.
Though Paul finished fifth in the Iowa Republican caucuses, the 72-year-old maverick placed far ahead of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is running first in national polls.
With more than 85 percent of the precincts reporting, Paul had 10 percent of the vote compared to 4 percent for Giuliani who spent little time in the state. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won with 34 percent.

Ron Paul is the man, everyone who wants freedom should give him a look. And if you want the opposite theres a country out there with plenty of oil and sand with your name on it.
- Posted by MonoDr Ron Paul and Rudy Giuliani EACH visited Ohio 20 times, and would have spent similar money on the state. Rudy Giuliani has national name recognition, and STILL couldn’t beat Dr Paul. Nobody wants fascism!
Go Dr Paul!
- Posted by MikeIn Iowa in 1992……….Bill Clinton got only 2.8%, and we know how that ended!
- Posted by Darrel MulloyGiuliani was in Iowa more than Ron Paul was…according to the NY Times…why isnt that being reported? People need to wake up, why should we worry about presidential hopefuls “views” they are supposed to follow the constitution…thats it! All other powers not delegated to the congress returns to the states, tell your governors to get off their lazy rears and start governing! It would be easier to fight “city hall” when you know who your fighting, under a Ron Paul presidency that would be your elected officials in your state! thats the way its supposed to be, dont be lied to anymore, give the next generations a chance at freedom with no patriot act, no national ID and no more federal government control! PLEASE JOIN THE REVOLUTION!!!!! Cross Party lines and lets take our country back, before its too late!
- Posted by TraciI learned something from the Iowa caucuses.
Baby boomers are the most odious generation ever.
- Posted by clintoniusIt appears we are preaching to the choir, and a troll or two…ahem..CRPS..ahem, here. Kick’em in the ass James Beardsley! I’m not advocating forfeiture, but we need to change tactics, the twenty foot tall barricade we face is insurmountable and it’s best to quit clawing up it. Let’s undermine instead.
- Posted by pointlessConsumers are more pissed off at the pump. People have to start equating oil prices with inflation. Start giving fliers out whenever you pump gas.
People have to learn of the Fed Reserve’s private ownership. It is illegal to deface their bank notes and alert people to clearinghouses of this information from Eustice Mullins’ or G.Edward Griffins’ writings online via notations on the bill. Just so you know.
Mike Huckabee got the church vote.
He doesn’t deserve it.
I’m betting the majority of the congregation in your church keen on Huck abhor the internet. This won’t change, but their pick can be swayed. Inform them of Huckabees’ stance on the major issues during Sunday school or any informal fellowship. Anyone familiar with Southern Baptists knows that everyone in the congregation has come across a scoundrel or two in the pulpit. We know Huck was bought by the CFR. Illuminate your brethren to this fact and to the unsavory characters holding court in the CFR. Never let the statement “It’s either Huckabee or Hillary” go unchallenged.
I know it isn’t a Ron Paul stance, but the fact that 9/11 was an inside job, preconceived by PNAC in writings and carried out by conspirators in the CIA and Mossad has to become public knowledge. !Attention! CRPS, more fodder for your “nutter” lobber! So many CFR candidates have dirty hands in connection to this atrocity that at the least this will take the fire from their backers bellies. No more talk of conspiracy theories having no place in political forums. I’m not putting words in Dr. Paul’s mouth. He is mature enough to consider everyones perspectives as worthy of an open ear, as we should all be.
Begin these suggestions immediately and all hope is not lost.
Any further suggestions for defibrillating America’s flatlined heart, Please share?
First, thank you for reporting this, Mr. Ferraro. I was very impressed with Ron Paul’s showing in Iowa, especially how he buried Giuliani and was so close to the third place tie.
Secondly, what can be done to send FOX NEWS and other mainline media a message–to let them know there’s a sector of the American public that’s fed up with their crap, like slanting their reporting as they have? I called FOX yesterday and left a message, but it would be nice to know what more could be done.
RON PAUL 2008!

Although 5% of the precincts have not yet reported their numbers, I think it’s early enough to look at the data. At the NY Times Politics section, you can see where candidates have had campaign events throughout the country. Here is campaign event data for Iowa (01 Aug - 03 Jan):
- Paul - 27 Appearances, 11,598 votes
- Giuliani - 35 Appearances, 4,013 votes
- McCain - 38 Appearances, 15,248 votes
- Thompson - 75 Appearances, 15,521 votes
- Huckabee - 86 Appearances, 39,814 votes
- Romney - 109 Appearances, 29,405 votes
Based on that data, the candidates got the following number of votes per official campaign appearance:
- Huckabee - 463 votes
- Paul - 429.5 votes
- McCain - 401.3 votes
- Romney - 269.8 votes
- Thompson - 207 votes
- Giuliani - 114.6 votes
If the time window is expanded to include all dates in 2007, Romney’s voter:event ratio drops precipitously. But the data shows us how poorly Benito truly performed: he did not skip Iowa (as he claims), but spent about the same amount of time there as McCain. Looking at the Benito’s Poll numbers, it’s almost “Florida or Bust” at this point — he’s trailing in every state between now and Super Tuesday except for Florida and Nevada, and the negative momentum from losing IA, NH, MI, and SC is sure to hurt his numbers in those states. I think James Ostrowski may be right: Benito could drop out once the money runs dry, or “gracefully” exits if he doesn’t win Florida.
Paul’s numbers are quite encouraging: if he had held a few more events, started his Iowa Campaign in July instead of August, or if turnout hadn’t been so high (turnout was almost 50% higher for the GOP vote than the pundits expected, which was about 75,000) he would have captured 3rd place or better. This tells me that time is the most critical factor for the Paul campaign: his support is steadily increasing over time, without many hiccups.
If Paul does well in tomorrow’s Wyoming caucus, a state where Paul has recieved significant financial support per capita (9th in donors per capita), he could receive a nice boost into the top three in New Hampshire — major momentum for the January 15th Michigan Primary and the SC/NV primary/caucus on the 19th.

Paul: ‘We beat Giuliani’

- Posted by IvanRight on, John–if Paul does get 20% in New Hampshire, it’ll be a bigger story than Oblahma’s showing in Iowa.
- Posted by Doc WYea the article should read a little better, but he OPPOSES THE BAN of gay marriages. He thinks two loving people should have whatever agreement they want - he has mentioned that this used to be a ceremony performed by a religious institution, and ha no government involvement (in the past) but now, as with everything they meddle in, it has become a hot topic that divides us. This is why RON PAUL IS TRULY THE GREAT UNITER!
- Posted by MC(But the media, including Reuters and AP are still blacking him out - this little article is only a drop in the sea of articles about the other candidates! Shame on all mainstream media outlets.)
Was the count honest? Republicans have rigged the vote-counting computers in the last two national elections. In Iowa, the precinct phoned their count with a touch-tone phone to an outfit in Atlanta who “counted” the total vote.
- Posted by BJAmerica is done for, Ron Paul was your last chance at true change and reform, he will put up a fight for a few more weeks and then the elite will choose the winner for you, they have effectively shut Ron Paul out and down, sorry , you can and will do nothing about it except complain, sit back and have a beer and play video games while your country is being stolen from you right before your blinded eyes. Obama will win because he represents exactly what the average american will be in a few more years, and think of the irony of history, a year ago you killed Saddam Hussein in Iraq, now a guy whos middle name is Hussein will be your next president, hahaha, long live Hussein.
- Posted by IronIowa wasn’t fertile ground for a message of reducing subsidies (farm subsidies, ethanol subsidies), so 10% is nice.
I am looking for Ron Paul to be around 20% in New Hampshire, and they are more receptive to the message of freedom and liberty.
- Posted by JohnRon Paul rising, predictably. Just like ol Seabiscut.
- Posted by ralph zTake a look at trends.Google.com Use Ron Paul, Huckabee, Giuliani, Romney, McCain as your search. The top portion of the graph is not that important. However take a look at the comparison of news reports. If you select 2007 you’ll see a vast difference in news stories, which tells me that RP did very well when taking that data into account. RP supporters keep your chin up, this is only the beginning.

- Posted by GreenieThe hell with the msm. They are part of the corporate status quo. This only makes me more determined to vote for Ron Paul and if it comes to civil disobedience, boycotting every corporate owned business or what ever it takes. If every supportor that votes in the primaries and national election signs a petition at the voting precincts along with identification such as drivers license number, or the last four digits of their social security or any valid identification stating that your vote went for Ron Paul to produce a paper trail. The media, voting machines and the whole system is rigged. Let the day of reckoning begin.
- Posted by rudyI’m 51 years old. Voted republican last two decades. Loyal Fox news supporter. No more. This is total BS. I don’t know where I’m going to get my TV news, but fox has shown themselves to be just as bad as the MSM… they are now part of the MSM.
I was astonished the other day to find myself at the political table with Cindy Sheehan suppporters, also supporting Ron Paul. To my astonishment I found myself willing to put aside my differences with them and anyone else on the “left” for the sake of getting Ron Paul into office. My political beliefs are analog, not digitial… the main stream media wants us to be digitial — either “on” or “off” ones or zeros… democrat or republicant, and they’ll not tolerate anyone in the middle.
I’ve donated 3 times to Ron Paul and this performance by the media last night only fires me up more.
Go Ron Paul!

No ‘christian’ would let their candidacy be engineered by the CFR.

Please support the only true conservative in the race, the only major candidate who isn’t bolstered by the evil Council on Foreign Relations and who would preserve your freedom of religion, someone who isn’t sold out to and controlled by globalists like Richard Haas or Ed Rollins of the evil CFR as Huckabee is. Ever wonder how some candidates with no money have suddenly come into the media limelight and are being pushed on us? They are not ‘their own men’, despite what you have been led to believe. They have connections to this evil group who would debase our constitution for world government and ironically, erase religion from our lives! Yet they are using religious people to lure in the religious community to their one-world, anti-American atheistic goals. How ironic! How sad for my friends who don’t yet understand this. Ron Paul’s Republicanism will NOT BE COMPROMISED by some globalist atheist organization that seeks to remove self-rule from our country.
- Posted by NHWow… after reading Dantes, Pointles, and Beardsley’s replies, it makes sense why you see so much more Ron Paul supporters on the web… becuase that’s where crazy people to go release their craziness. So voting for anyone BUT Ron Paul makes you a traitor to the country, huh? I guess in that dream world where Dr Paul can really affect the changes he’s preaching, that probably makes sense. Hope those straps on your long-sleeve coats don’t hurt too much, as they appear to need some tightening…
