Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney may have placed a disappointing second in the key early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire, but he still managed to raise $5 million on Wednesday, though only $1.5 million can be used for the primary.
“I am grateful to all of the fundraisers and donors who have helped us raise the resources we need to continue to be competitive in all 50 states,” Romney said in a statement. “My campaign is about the future of our country, and I will be ready to go toe-to-toe with the Democrats in the general election.”
He raised $3.5 million for the general election that he could use should he win the Republican nomination.
Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton raised more than $1 million after her New Hampshire victory last night but no word yet from the Republican winner John McCain.
