MINNEAPOLIS - Relying on a groundswell of conservative support to keep him in the Republican presidential race with Sen. John McCain, Mitt Romney says he’s happy to have the likes of Ann Coulter on his side, though he doesn’t share all her views.
Coulter, a firebrand commentator prone to tirades against liberals, railed against McCain this week and went so far as to say that if he wins the Republican nomination she would prefer Democrat Hillary Clinton as president.
Asked about her comments, Romney said: “I like getting support from people and appreciate their endorsement of my effort. I don’t agree with all of my supporters. I intend to support our nominee, whether it’s Senator McCain or whether it’s me.”
Earlier he mentioned Coulter among a string of conservative commentators – Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Lars Larson, Hugh Hewitt and Rich Lowry — whose support he said was turning the tide in his favor.
“I don’t know how many tens of millions of dollars of advertising would have to be purchased to equal that,” said Romney, who has thrown $35 million of his own money into his White House bid.
“Conservative Republicans and mainstream Republicans all over the country in the last 48 hours or so have concentrated on the prospect of Senator McCain being our nominee and are saying, ‘That’s not the direction we want to go,’” Romney told reporters during a flight from Salt Lake City to Minneapolis.

This article is bias spin connecting the controversial Ann Coulter with Romney The title presents a delusion.
- Posted by DarrellThe facts are that McCain would serve our country better than Governor Romney and if Ann Coulter is against McCain that only makes him even more qualified. McCain works well with democrats so the republican party should be praising that considering he could potentially pass better legislation faster than the current President.
- Posted by JaredHow did America become a country where a unbelievably nasty and lying woman can make money doing the things she does. Where did the HATOCRACY come from?
- Posted by J.T. HartmanJared, McCain gets along with Democrats because he nearly one himself. In fact, almost became one a few years ago.
Why is it that the media always thinks the Republicans need to get along with Democrats, but Democrats are not required to get along with Republicans?
Coulter endorsing Romney is nothing compared with the embarrassment of the radical hate-group Moveon.org endorsing Obama.
- Posted by Mark FlemingMcCain “works well with Democrats” because he IS a Democrat! The “facts are” that McCain is a Liberal Republican, and no conservative at all. The Media and democrats know this, so they are all promoting McCain as an excellent choice for the republicans, because they know that without the support of true conservatives, McCain will be defeated in the General Elections. The fact that liberals are supporting McCain should tell you all you need to know… since when does “taking the advice from your opponent” make any sense at all?

You’re right. In addition, the media would not mind McCain winning in November since it would effectively redefine the Republican Party even further left. Bush has already unfortunately given Republicans the big spender label and the soft on illegals label. All the party needs is to then be tagged with soft of free speech (McCain-Feingold), anti-capitalism (chastising Romney for making a profit), anti-drug companies (yup, he is), anti tax cuts (one of only two Republicans who opposed the tax cuts), anti-oil companies, pro the farce of man-made global warming, etc, etc, etc.
I will not vote for McCain if he is the nominee. I’d rather have a liberal Democrat than a liberal Republican as president.
- Posted by Mark FlemingIt’s sad when candidates like Huckleberry and McCain can drastically turn a campaign into a “he said she said” sort of dilemma. There’s no question in my mind that Mitt Romney is the most viable candidate for this country at this moment in history. And I bet the, informed, talk show hosts realize that as well.
I see everybody talking about some kind of change they’d bring, but I like my country just the way it is. I don’t need change. I just need the economy back on track, illegal immigration on lock, and a win against the War on Terror.
- Posted by JohnAny close observer Of Mitt Romneys tenure as Gov.will tell you that the pro-abortion and pro-homosexual forces never lost any battles under his tenure and that in fact, they grew in power and influence. Romney did nothing to restrain the groups who have launched a jihad on America’s Judeo-Christian culture.
On so many occasions, the liberal agenda could have been slowed down or even defeated with the smallest internal regulatory decision or executive order and yet he never used the power he had to do that. He gave up the battlefield to our enemies over and over again.
This is why every conservative in America needs to question his overly hyped conversion to conservatism. How can we trust a man who has done so much damage to causes dear to our hearts who has suddenly become a conservative only after deciding to run for President?
Fourteen years ago the country was duped by a charming, smooth talking “moderate” Democrat named Bill Clinton who used the power of the Presidency to inflict great damage to America’s military, to our intelligence agencies, and to our culture. The gap between how Clinton appeared to most Americans and how he really governed was huge. We cannot afford another President like that.
I am taking no chances with Romney or McCain. My vote will be cast for the true conservative HUCKBEE!
- Posted by lawrenceyou people are unbelievable. mccain not only is the only viable option from either party to lead this country through an impending recession and an ongoing war but he is the only candidate from the republican field who has a chance against clinton or obama. if you cant see the merits of having a republican candidate who can win middle left and center votes in an election which against a candidate like obama who will undoubtedly win middle right votes then you don’t have any business discussing politics. the fact remains that his time in the military and his 25 years in congress are an enormous asset especially given the context of this ongoing war on terror.
- Posted by erikWhere is our conservative leadership? Are we patiently waiting to see Mrs.Clinton to be our President or we still have some kind of little feeling towards Gov.Romney?,because Gov.Romney changed to prolife OR we already gave up to the drive-by media to the coronation of Sen.Mccain to be our nominee? It’s so sad to see the party of Reagan going along with the left and the socialists!Common, the conservative leaders of our wing should call Huckabee and say,not to kill our party by projecting himself as the real son of God to run on the religious principles to make this world Hell or Heaven? All the conservative leaders in the Feb 5th states to come out and proudly support Gov.Romney, the only one left with who is close to the principles of Reagan, viva GOP,viva USA,jt.

- Posted by jtThe media is responsible for Mccain’s success? Thank George W. Bush. He showed everyone, including a majority of Republicans, just how dangerous and deluded the right wing of your party is.

- Posted by DanYou know, I read the things some of you right wingers say and I have to say, “Do you REALLY believe THAT?!?” Coulter, Rush, Bill, they’re all going to be on the side of whoever’s farthest on the right because if the current administration and whatever’s next in the conservative bullpen is discredited any further than they have been already by the results of their campaign since 2000 to control the US government, the all sink together. Personally I wouldn’t mind that; they’re all equally guilty of massive lying and covering up to the American people of what before Watergate would have been considered impeachable offenses, but now considering how together they all were in it along with the GOP Congressmen and Senators, the conspiracy of shrillness must be sustained at all costs. Romney needs the help and exposure to overcome Huckabee, and he’s not ashamed (enough) about how he gets it. “Radical hate group MoveOn.org?!?” Just what hateful statements have they uttered? Anything on the order of comparing a president’s daughter to a dog? Eh? I thought not. No surprise; when the facts aren’t on your side, you just turn up the volume. Pathetic.
- Posted by jimboMitt Romney is the only candidate willing to stand up and defend America’s borders. McCain, Hillary, or Obama certainly won’t do that, though I’m sure McCain will find a compromise with Mexico.
- Posted by LELBetween what she said about Edwards and her hissy fits…she is now the biggest joke in the western world. Congratulations.
- Posted by rogbeeErik,
McCain is a raging loon and a complete RINO. The only people calling him a “maverick” are folks on the left. He’s a total traitor to the Republican party. If the party is stupid enough to nominate this clown - they deserve what they get. I, for one, will stay home for the first time in 20 years before I vote for this nut.
You say “…merits of having a republican candidate who can win middle left and center votes in an election” He’s not a republican!!! That’s why he’ll win those votes. No real conservative will ever get those votes!
- Posted by DaveHillary will be elected with Obama as vice president. She will mess the economy up so bad that she will only be in one term. Romney will run in 2012 and beat her.

- Posted by Super Tuesday: All the Hype Money Can Buy « Atypical MusingsAny conservative republican who votes for McCain is not a true conservative. John McCain is, in ways, more liberal than Billary herself! And this is what Ann is trying to tell you.. John McCain is going to do the same things as Hillary, only he is going to dance around pretending he is a republican while doing it. So if he is in the final two, why not just let Hillary or Obama in there so that they can truly show how their tactics are unreal and stop putting it on the republicans, and when they fail we republicans will be here to clean up the mess the have made and prove our point. So the point is since they are going to do the same thing anyways.. lets have the downfall be on a true democrat, not a fake republican
