As Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton was in the final stretch campaigning for the Feb. 5 Super Tuesday contests, she loaned herself $5 million from her family’s personal fortune to challenge her rival Sen. Barack Obama who had record fundraising in January.
“Late last month Senator Clinton loaned her campaign $5 million,” her communications director Howard Wolfson said in a statement. ”The loan illustrates Sen. Clinton’s commitment to this effort and to ensuring that our campaign has the resources it needs to compete and win across this nation.”
Clinton raised roughly $13 million in January, well below the $32 million Obama hauled in. And money will play an even more critical role in the coming weeks since she has been unable so far to land a knockout blow against Obama.
Clinton on Wednesday sent out an e-mail appeal to supporters seeking to raise $3 million in three days while at the same time her campaign insisted that she had a record fundraising day on the Internet after winning eight states on Super Tuesday.
One reason Clinton may be finding it more difficult to raise more money could be because about 63 percent of her donors have already given the $2,300 maximum contribution. In comparison, 43 percent of Obama’s donors have donated that amount, according to tabulations by the Center for Responsive Politics.
The Clintons have amassed a multi-million dollar fortune from writing books and touring on the lecture circuit.

Please stop black and white game. We are all from earth not from other planet. It’s showing our poor and weak mentality to call a person white or black. Our blood color is red. Accept this truth.
- Posted by AjitIf we all still continue to accuse each other black and white, than no body will help America even GOD become the president of U.S.
it’s funny how they candidates use millions and millions to run for campaign, but those money could go to some people who really need it. just a thought.
- Posted by maryi don’t care who wins, as long as they run USA well. oh, i think not all blacks are voting for obama, and it’s ok. they can choose which one to vote if their heart desire. good luck, obama.

Hillary is using the Gen election contributions by loaning the campaign money, money that is to be repaid with the Gen election money if she isn’t nominated. So she raised $20 Million earmarked for the Gen Election and by LAW not allowed to be used in the primaries. With $5 Millions already lent to the campaign we can look forward to another $15 Million being loaned by Hillary, because she “believes in the campaign”. It is just a way to circumvent the LAW concerning contributions and it is rather strange that it hasn’t been picked up by the “experts”.
- Posted by Casimir NystrandI hope that there will be a female president in USA.so,I back up Hillary.
- Posted by tonyPoor Hillary. Today is the first day of the Lunar New Year so I am going to use the Eastern philosophy. Hillary coughed up $5M for her ambition. It is about time for her to give back the money Bill and she have earned by riding on the back of the American people. Anyone heard of KARMA? KARMA TIME is at Hillary’s door.
