Clinton to Daily Show’s Stewart: Wish you were here

NEW YORK - On the eve of high-stakes primaries in Texas and Ohio,  Hillary Clinton appeared via satellite on the popular satirical news program “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and challenged the host to come out from behind his fake anchor desk and join her on the campaign trail.

“I wish you were out here on the campaign trail with us. You know, you could make fun of us in person,” the Democratic presidential candidate said from a campaign rally in Austin, Texas.

“I really prefer this,” Stewart dead-panned from his studio in New York.

When Stewart asked the New York senator and former first lady, why, on the night before what is arguably the most important election of her life, she chose to talk to him, she joked in response, “It is pretty pathetic.”

Clinton is running neck-and-neck with Democratic rival Sen. Barack Obama ahead of key primaries in Texas and Ohio on Tuesday. The contests are seen as do-or-die for Clinton, who would be the country’s first female president.

Clinton said she was excited about the primaries on Tuesday, but she was also looking ahead to states that have not yet had their nominating contests.

“There’s a lot of interest in letting people who are still to come have their voice, since it is so close,” Clinton said, citing the April primary in Pennsylvania. She added that her husband, former President Bill Clinton, did not secure the Democratic Party nomination until June.

Clinton’s appearance on “The Daily Show” follows her cameo on comedy show “Saturday Night Live “ over the weekend.  The appearance on Monday was Clinton’s second on “The Daily Show,” but her first since she announced she was running for president.

With her experience intellect, network, poise and mental fortitude Hillary will make an excellent first lady US President. Let not this momentous opportunity slip. Obama has time on his side and with more exposure and experience may be President in the not too distant future.

Hilary will take all. I can’t wait to say Madam President. Love you Hillary.

It is insulting, both intellectually and personally, that Clinton supporters dismiss Obama supporters as cultists or delusional. We all know the demographic breakdowns, which clearly show that Obama crushes Hillary among the educated. Not that education correlates with reason, of course, but it may help and certainly doesn’t hurt.

Hillary will destroy the Democratic Party if she continues. If she had a compelling reason for people to vote FOR her, as opposed to AGAINST Obama, she might not be as dangerous. Instead, she will drag Obama down into the mud before the general campaign, making McCain’s job easier. If Hillary supporters can honestly reflect on this election, I think they’d be able to see that her only path to election would be to tear the party apart.

As for Obama being an empty vessel, and his supporters not seeing that, let’s think about the facts. He has held elected office longer than Clinton. Clinton’s 35 year of experience (which the press gives her a pass on) consists of every year of her life since graduating law school. She’s basically just saying that she’s older. Well, McCain is even older, so if age trumps message, then Hillary is sunk. I stole a post from another board, summarizing their respective legislative histories, and put it below. One could add to the list a prominent failure: Health care. Hillary knows how to do it because she learned her lesson last time? She may have learned from her mistakes, but the mistakes were very instructive, teaching us that she emphasizes secrecy and loyalty (see the nice NY times article by David Brooks about her health care tactics).
One last thing: Obama has unlimited ammunition he could use against Hillary, yet doesn’t. That says a lot about him and his candidacy. Rezko? Try Whitewater. Or Hsu. Or Cattle futures. Just because they’re old news, doesn’t mean they never happened. Pardons, renting the Lincoln bedroom, the list goes on and on. Strickland made tax returns a huge issue in his campaign in Ohio, yet Obama hasn’t pushed the issue against Hillary. The list of donors for the Clinton presidential library as well as the records of the Clinton White House remain unknown.
It’s not for lack of reason that I support Obama, it’s because he has given me so many reasons to believe in him.

“Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term (6yrs.), and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law, (20) twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years.
These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress (www.thomas.loc.gov), but to save you trouble, I’ll post them here for you.
1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Hon
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O’Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men’s Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men’s Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty.
Only five of Clinton’s bills are more substantive:
16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.
There you have it-the facts straight from the Senate Record.
Now, I would post those of Obama’s, but the list is too substantive, so I’ll mainly categorize.
During the first (8) eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced:
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These inculded:
**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more

have people taken leave of their senses to fall for change and fierce urgency of now etc..”change” people is something that happens whether we like it or not..how can one person be such a change agent when what Barack and Hillary claim they will do are about 95% similar. we are not living in cave man days that somehow people are desparate for change. if people can handle change in their own life and let the president handle some of the tough challenges..then everyone should be fine…

I like Hillary. Obama: that’s like choosing Carter to overcompensate for Nixon.

Despite inexperience, Obama’s speech is unparallel. He can mesmerize a person and energize like no one else. I also think a connection between with Rizko and Obama is absurd. Even though the following article emphasizes more on Rizko connection, I think it is more disturbing Obama’s lie to Ohio people. He is using NAFTA to exploit Hillary. His credibility to Ohio is surely questionable.
He already telling the Canadian, don’t worry NAFTA will be there.

It strikes me that a reasonably large component of what Hillary thinks of as her base are poorly-educated, blue collar workers. Following the logic on this, it would seem that Hillary often crafts her election message to a tone which generates fear and divisiveness. Lots of emotion without a lot of substance. This plays well with a segment of the population which isn’t generally one to read extensively or research the messages and statements of the candidates. At first, I thought this kind of funny, but then I remembered the “W” was elected not once, but TWICE by those very people. Hillary may be a lot of things, but one thing she is not; dumb. She may very well get the nomination by tapping those who find her message a compelling one. Then, once again, we’ll have a Republican in office. NOTHING Hillary has touted as her deep qualifications will stand up against John McCain. He’s been in the Senate decades longer than she has, has gone to war as a combatant, been captured, come home, entered politics, and worked generally near the center of the political spectrum, getting a great deal done that she was unable to accomplish even when she had the power of the President behind her. She’ll get stomped.

I admire Obama he has inspired the idealism of young people like Robert and John Kennedy. Of course they both eventually got shot.

Hillary will bring back to the glory days of Lyndon Johnson or Jimmy Carter. Her kind of Democrats build bureaucracies to deal with urgent problems. The agriculture, defense, and Education departments, IRS are all progressive brain childs, in ten years Hillary’s Department of Medicine will employ more people than are employed by insurance companies now. There will be more paper work, the quality of medicine will go down and your taxes will go up.

Regardless of who is the next president, illegal immigrants will continue to come in, suppressing wages, demanding social services and increasing demand for things like food, gas and housing. Inflation will spike, imports will become more expensive and congestion will be worse.

Enjoy your brave new world.

Also, I would like to add, that Obama can beat the Republicans hands down. Have you seen the turnouts? Democrats have this no matter who the nominee is.

Not really sure why fear that someone wouldnt win against a republican would be a reason to vote for someone as weak as Clinton?

First off, Jon wasn’t a shill for Hillary and even grilled her at the end.

Second, Hillary, wheter genuine or not, is just to shrill and nagging to win this campaign. Obama is the image I want to project to the world powers. Clinton just appears too weak and whiny.

I live in PA., and am greatful to see that hillary is still upbeat. I as well as the states to come after PA> want our votes to count. I hope the public doesn”t listen to the likes of MSNBC and the rest of the media who actually get “giddy” to say Hillary wil lose. Wait until the results tonight they and other doubters wil eat their words. Texas ,Ohio and Rhode Island wil get it right so the rest of us have a say.

Obama has been on the Daily show (I think multiple times) and there shouldn’t be any question of it being “inappropriate” for either candidate to do so.

Hillary is obviously trying to avoid what happened with Bob Dole when he lost the campaign and starting showing a lighter, more-human side by appearing on SNL and late-night talk shows which people really wished he had shared earlier. That said, I don’t think the Daily Show appearance went over all that well. Haven’t seen the SNL she appeared on.

I would 2nd that the Obamaniacs MUST put down the nitrous and throw the koolaid aside; I also invite them to join us all back here on planet earth as well.

I also watched a frustrated Obama mis-handle a heated press conference that called him on some pressing issues. He behaved like a bright teenager that didn’t want to discuss bad decisions.

Did the Obama supporters not see that they are being led to believe that this guy is not a typical politican. Obama is the same as any other Washington insider - isn’t all of his campaign staff from Washington and previous Clinton Administration????

An Obama economic adviser had a meeting with a Canadian official - reportedly saying that the harshness of Obama’s criticisms of the North American Free Trade Agreement was for political show.

Last week, Obama denied an initial media report about the conversation. But after a Canadian government memo surfaced, he acknowledged yesterday there was a conversation.

Obama has already shown us what type of “change” he has been talking about. When the story first broke about the alleged meeting between his campaign and the Canadian embassy, he denied that any such contacts had been made. Then, when the memo about the meeting surfaced, he had to change his story, and admit the meeting. He now says that the memo of the meeting in inaccurate (i.e. the memo which describes how his chief economic advisor reassured the Canadian government that Obama’s criticisms of NAFTA during the campaign were just political, and not to be taken seriously). First he lies about the meeting, then he wants us to believe that the memo written by a Canadian official is inaccurate. Obama: No experience; no change; no Presidency.

It is obvious that some of these people just say things without knowing the actual truth. I just hope the majority of the voting public can see past the BS spread by some of these individuals on this blog, such as BR. Senator Obama is clearly not a poster boy for special interest groups he is clearly the opposite. Also the only experience she actually has over Obama is that of being the first lady. The media is a powerful tool that can capture easily swayed Americans, which is the majority. American society as a whole is not politically savvy as some here would like to think. All said and done the American people need to start informing themselves better and looking through the lies spread by others. It is prudent to point out that Hillary has come to dishing out low blows and slinging mud. Mr. Obama only slings mud on the defensive not the offensive; that speaks highly of his character. This is also a sign of fear from the Clinton camp.

If either Hillary or Obama are in office, do people realize that their accomplishments will be very low? “Actual” implementation of universal healthcare? “Reducing” healthcare costs? Sounds nice THEORETICALLY. But are their plans even REALISTIC? They will only create a larger mess in the system, since, as they seek to appeal to the masses, neither of them solve the ROOT of the problem, but only try to fix problems when they appear - somewhat like how doctors may only treat your symptoms, rather than the actual CAUSE of the problem. The patient may leave happy, but they will surely come back for more treatment & adverse effects of the initial disease. However, the doctor may have tried to work with the patient to become RESPONSIBLE (e.g. diet, smoking) for his/her own health, so that the patient no longer has to come back for more treatments & any resulting multi-organ disease. But yes, the masses hate to be disciplined & learn self-responsiblity.

Will they REALLY be able to pull out of Iraq? When they get in office, they may then come to find out that the problem in Iraq is greater than it seems, since they may then be made aware of certain classified information which we the people do not know of. Then we will not be able to pull out ASAP like Obama/Clinton dream of. Obama/Clinton will look like “traitors” to the American people. Will Obama/Clinton then be regarded like Bush?

People blame Bush for the economic decline. Well, what goes up will always come down. If Bush had only served 1 term, then we would remember him for the rise in the housing market & the deflection of post-911 recession, thanks to Bush. But Bush stayed one term more, & now we’re in an inevitable down-slope. No, the problem wasn’t Bush. The problem was each individual making POOR DECISIONS, taking out loans they can not afford in the future, not reading the fine print, being “carried away” in haste to “beat” the rising housing prices (which are now falling, how ironic). Homebuyers THEMSELVES acting out of control. Yes, MYSELF included. But that was MY fault. MY fault & ONLY MY fault. Did Bush hold a gun to my head to force me to buy a house beyond my means? Never.

No more Clintons. And Obama could wait another 10 years to run for President.
