Sharpton to Clinton: Please leave the stage

NEW YORK - Rev. Al Sharpton called on Hillary Clinton to drop out of the Democratic presidential race, likening her to an entertainer who doesn’t know when to leave the stage.

rtr20b1t.jpg“Not dropping out would mean ruining the party,” the civil rights leader told New York 1 television on Thursday night. “I think Barack Obama’s the nominee. I think he’s won. The majority of Democrats have already decided.”

Sharpton, a failed Democratic candidate in 2004, has yet to endorse any candidate for the November election though he has been actively courted by Obama and Clinton.

He has natural ties to both Democratic candidates: his National Action Network is based in New York City and Clinton is a U.S. senator from New York state. And he has also championed causes for African Americans, and if elected Obama, a senator from Illinois, would be America’s first black president.

But his latest words suggest an endorsement might not be necessary in the nomination battle.

“As you know, I’ve been in the ministry of civil rights all my life, but had dealings with entertainers because of James Brown,” Sharpton said. “The worst thing in the world is when an entertainer doesn’t know when the show is over. The audience is gone, the lights are down, you’re getting ready to cut the mics off and you are still on the stage singing. It’s over, it’s all right, it’s over. Come sing another day, but this show is over for Sen. Clinton.”

Ok. My point was missed, again. Let’s try THIS another way…What Has Obama Stated Or What Has He Done To Make Him The Better Candidate To Run Our Country?

And another thing, Michelle Obama’s thesis on black alumni hailing from Princeton only reflects her personal experience as an African-American women who like so many others liker her have experienced disenfranchising and discrimination in this country. African-Americans have gradually been put in a position to have a mentalality that being black is a disgrace to this country. So when she askes black alumni from Princeton to identify with the black community more, she is simply saying that we must first love and appreciate ourselves despite all of the abuse and racism that we have experienced, so that we can grow and move on. It’s not right for blacks to forget where we have come from because it keeps us clueless of why we experience some of the discriminations that we experience today even though some of the discriminations are more subtle than others. Blacks will always stand out in this country, no matter what we do. And if no other nationality in this world is willing to stand up for our equality, then we must do it for ourselves, and we must do that by sticking together as a minority in this country until everyone else decides that black people are worthy of achieving in this nation just like everybody else. So again her comments are not racist, they are simply a reflection of the disenfranchising that blacks experience in this nation.

It is not fair to simply say Hilary is the better candidate and not Obama and that African-Americans are displaying racism against her because she’s white. How proposterous does that sound when African-Americans are a people that have experienced unwanted racism for hundreds of years. It’s not fair to say Hilary is the better and most marketable candidate because of the color of her skin. America finally has a chance to redeem itself from the negative ideology that the world has about us. We need to give the potential first black president a chance. After all, he is pulling in the lead fair and square. And it’s not fair for Clinton supporters to want to vote for McCain versus Obama because if Clinton was pulling ahead and won the democratic nomination, I would damn sure vote and support her. We as Americans really need to get it together and realize that it is a new day and not every president we elect has to have similiar ideologies and white skin. America needs a drastic change. A change that eliminates dirty politics and politics that keep its people in the dark on so many issues. Take a stand for the best change America.

WOW…Some of you bloggers sure have exposed yourselves!LoL I actually have NO problems with the Clinton’s.I think Bill did a good job in office. But, that doesnt mean Hillary will.People use common sense and stop being racist. For years and years blacks have been trampled on by this Country. And to “Carl McQueen”…That paragraph does not prove anything.(you kind of people are hilarious)! She basically said that she would take care of her people as a priority.Whats wrong with that?I noticed that (racist )whites are getting threatened by OBAMA and pulling the race card. You should be…See the only difference in the past elections is that a large population of blacks did not vote. You better bet your last piece of land that the majority of all the black communities will be voting for OBAMA.

Peace

So where, in any of these blogs, does it state that a particular individual will NOT vote for Obama because he is black? I’m missing something…I’m not voting for him because he has not convinced me that he CAN run our country. To me he seems very green, immature, and sways his beliefs to go with which ever way the wind blows. I just don’t get that warm fuzzy feeling…PLUS we do not know much about his wife, except for the few alarming issues she has with racisim. Yes, the red flags are flying high! If he would say something that had substance to it, I would vote for him regardless of color! I am REALLY tired of having it shoved up my arse that JUST BECAUSE I am not voting for him I am racist. Recheck your own issues before trying to start ones for those of us that do not have any.

I am a Barack Obama supporter and I want Clinton to stay in the race. I don’t want anyone saying she was forced out. I am dissappointed but not surprsised that she resorted to playing the race card. Hey she started this race playing the gender card.

This is completely ridiculous. I don’t get how Democrats are saying that if Obama wins that they will vote Republican. Hillary pulls the race card, that she can win more a greater percentage of the white vote and we should all suddenly for vote Hillary? I’m a 21 year old black woman who rarely ever deals with racism in my personal life, but sure it happens. I’m also not a sterotype, I do not live in the ghetto, do not talk half english, I go to college, have never been pregnant and have never received any form of public assistance. However, I can still recognize racism when I see it and makes me sick to my stomach when white people (and no, I’m by no means racist) say that blacks should stop whining about being treating unfairly when we can’t even win a presidental election because those same whites who claim we’re treated as equals won’t vote for Obama simply because he’s black. Please say what you mean and don’t mask behind being politically incorrect. We know what you mean and what you say. Its unneccessary to say it after we’ve turned our backs. Say and out loud and say it proud so we can have a real conversation for once. “I WILL NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA BECAUSE HE’S A BLACK MAN AND I DO NOT THINK ITS MY EQUAL AND I WOULD RATHER SEE A WHITE WOMAN WIN THE PRESIDENCY THAN A BLACK MAN IN THE YEAR 2008, 200 YEARS AFTER SLAVERY ENDS”. Man, I’ve been needing to address that for quite some time!

Haha. Very, very funny. I want her to drop out, too! I just don’t want her to be forced out and I want every state that followed the rules to be included. I strongly feel like she should campaign in a more positive manner though, so as to not damage the party.

As I read these board messages, it disturbs me as an African American female. I am deeply saddened by the hatred that I read, and it touches me to the core, because when I looked at the candidates, race was not even a factor, and i think that applies to most people that I know black and white. We are one of the most powerful and wealthy countries in the world, and yet we still base our decisions on race. How much sense does that really make. When I looked at both candidates, my first thought was, who is being the most sincere, who do I believe can do the job, who can put my faith back into politics, who isn’t reaping benefits from my tax dollars, who has an open mind and is firm in their beliefs. This is something that we need to take into account, because the rest of the world is watching us, and if they think we are using skin color (and I leave out sexism, because TONS of other countries have female leaders) as a basis for our decisions, then we are in a sad place. People, black and white, male and female, all fought and died so that we could “have the pursuit of liberty”. My final question is, how many people have applied for a job that you had no “experience” in and succeeded even when most people doubted you? Keep that in mind,I think we as AMERICANS need to open our minds, and turn off our emotions a little and choose the candidate that really wants to help this country move in a positive direction so that out children can really be proud TO BE AN AMERICAN.

You know you Americans are looking dumber and dumber everyday. You just can’t get over race in order to elect a very qualified candidate who happens to be black. And yes White America you are “responsible” for your forefathers acts because you are “reaping the benefits from it”. OBAMA has won fair and square. A black person has to work twice as hard as a white person in USA, and it is definetly showing now. If OBAMA had been white Billary would have dropped out a long time ago and supported him. If Bush had been black he would not have been in that White House. An ignorant Whiteman like him in the Whitehouse for 8yrs!!No way a blackman would of had that priviledge. Only Whites have been president in USA and look at the state the USA is in now. And you are so racist and afraid that you don’t want to vote for the qualified candidate who happens to have darker skin. (By the way this message is not for those White Americans who have had the honesty and intelligence to vote for OBAMA.Without the Whitevote along with the Black vote he wouldn’t be where he is. So there are White Americans who really want to see a change and are not holding the color of OBAMA’S skin against him..)I am in Switzerland by the way..The whole world is watching you…WAKE UP AMERICA….

HILARY SHOW IS OVER PLEASE LEAVE THE STAGE, do not destroy the democratic party and this country any more. For all of those who say that Hilary will win againsts Mccain, wait and see when all the young generation voters INCLUDING YOUNG REPUBLICANS and INDIPENDENTS flock around the smartest most HONEST politician AMERICA has ever seen named Barack Obama. OBAMKA will kick Republican butt in Nov by getting OVER 75% votes from PEOPLE BELOW 40. Obama will get huge support from INDIPENDENTS AND REPUBLICANS Which Bilary will never get in her life. Its time for Change, Its time for Honesty, Wisdom and it is Time for a new Leadership now.

I was just wondering who is funding Rev Wright’s media tour. Has anybody dug into that? My suspicion is that we would find out it has links to Hillary’s campaign, which would not be so surprising for a big liar and deceitful person like her.
Go Obama Go!

Dude!

I’d like to buy a clue for $500, please!! This isn’t a popularity contest. This isn’t for class president. It’s for President of the US of A (dude)!! Hillary has the required demographic groups to carry the battleground states in the general election (Hispanics, Jewish, white women, blue-collar workers, Catholic, elderly, lower income and the Reagan Democrats, not to mention that she’s carried the big battleground states, mostly by a 10 point margine because of this (Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania, California and Arizona to name a few), and the winner in the general election has won in Pennsylavania, Ohio, and Florida–something Barack won’t be able to do. There’s NO WAY Barack will be on the map with McCain in the general election. If you think so, you’re deluding yourself!! No wonder the democrats lose–the democratic nominee is a popularity contest and not about who is most electible and most qualified. As far as “the math” goes, it’s totally BOGUS!! Mostly caucus wins for Barack (perceived reality–such a miniscule part of the whole state is represented), and to not count Florida and Michigan is RIDICULOUS!! What is the Obama camp so afraid of? If the Democratic nominee process was done the right way, Hillary would have won a long time ago. Hillary or bust!!! You GO, girl!!!!!!

Wait until the repubs get Obama’s wife in their sites. They don’t need to go after him, once her racist thesis from Princeton gets out there in full force he is finished. They will keep Wright on the forefront and use her thesis to hit home what many of us know…if he is elected..it will be the first time in this century that an openly racist president and first lady will be voted into office, Even though the majority of blacks approve reverse racism, whites do not…as far as I know..blacks are still a minority…MCclone will get the job and we will be screwed if Obama becomes the nominee. I am not going to take any time going into Obama’s lack of qualifications…run as an independent Hillary…once the dust is settled, you will be the only one left standing to be our next president.

Susan,
That was brilliant!!! I won’t speak for others but I will say you have voiced everything I have felt about the situation. You have hit on every talking point I have had for the last few months including Hill running as an independent. You obviously have a sharp and constantly thinking mind…normally I would add my few cents worth but you threw in an entire dollar!!! way to go, I hope to read more from you.

It is actually Al Sharpton who needs to get off the stage; we’ve had to listen to him whine for far too long and he never says anything new or interesting. I’m afraid that if Obama gets elected we’re going to have to hear Sharpton 24/7!
