Campaign “battle of the bumper stickers” gears up

obama-and-clinton.jpgDALLAS - A modern U.S. political ritual that accompanies elections, “the battle of the bumper stickers,” is gearing up again.

In an e-mail to its membership on Friday, the Republican Party of Texas said it had received over 1,300 submissions to its call for a 2008 election bumper sticker slogan.

It said it had narrowed the field down to five and that Texas Republicans had until high noon on July 3rd to vote for one of them. Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is unsurprisingly the explicit target of four of them.

The five finalists?

Obama for Change? That’s all you’ll have left in your pockets!

Obama won’t change me — I’m voting GOP

High gas prices? Thank a Democrat this November

Barack Obama? Liberal like McGovern, Prepared like Carter

Barack Obama — The Audacity of HYPE

But with many Americans driving less because of sky-high gas prices, it remains to be seen how much “air-time” bumper stickers will get on the roads this election year.

hilarious that none of these finalist bumper stickers have McCain’s name on them, that oughta attract the PUMA’s, since they obviously don’t know who they are voting for anyway,
PUMA- Piece of Crap American
OBAMA 08!

“With Bush in ‘04 Gas Went to 4($); With McCain in ‘08 Expect Gas at 8($).”

“McCain ‘08 Midwest Flood Policy–Be Happy, You’ve got a Moat, Now the Islamo Terrorists Can’t Get to You!”

McCain ‘08 in IOWA and downstream: “Don’t worry, the water will recede in a few days and you’ll be just as happy as New Orleans.”

McCain ‘08–”Don’t worry, I learned everything I know about helping during natural disasters from Pres. George Bush–#1 Show Up–#2–Express sympathy–#3 Leave–#4–Wait for Next Disaster, and repeat Steps 1-3.”

“McCain ‘08 Gas Gambling Policy: George got you $4 gas; I’ll see his policy, and double it to $8!”

If McCain would just select Montana Republican Walter McNutt as his VP, we’d have the bumper sticker we could all love: “McCain / McNutt”

If you’re political sentiments are simple enough to fit on a bumper sticker, do us all a favor and don’t vote.

“NObama!” would be the best bumper sticker or “NObama, NOMichelle”

I like one said, do not read bumper stickers. One got my attention here though. It was on a car that usually took one of our parking spaces daily. It said ” Draft Young Repulicans” along with some more democommie stuff…

I put a note on his windshield saying “Good idea!… Republicans are the only ones smart enough and mature enough to be trusted with guns..”

I’ve come up with a few over the last couple of weeks. Check them out on my site, http://cameronhinkle.com/blog/id/3652248 808447214328

“DON’T DRINK THE KOOL-AID!”

“CHANGE IS ALL YOU’LL HAVE LEFT”

“BARACK OBAMA: THE SECOND COMING OF J.C. (…JIMMY CARTER!)”

I think the most telling thing about the slogans is that they are all aimed at Obama, and not focused on what McCain is going to do for our country. I guess hackneyed and tired name-calling is what we can expect from the republicans again this year. Let’s not fall for this crap again.
