HONOLULU - The speakers list for the Democratic National Convention is in, and two women who will be key figures in one way or another in Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s political future have the top opening spots.couple.jpg

Michelle Obama, the Illinois senator’s wife, will be the keynote speaker Monday night, taking the stage in prime time on the first day of the convention, the campaign said in a joint statement with the Democratic convention committee.

On Tuesday night, New York Senator Hillary Clinton has the prime-time slot. Clinton, who failed narrowly in her bid to clinch the nomination, has endorsed Obama but will undoubtedly address a crowd filled with her own supporters, many of whom are still reeling from her defeat.

“Senator Hillary Clinton, who is a champion for working families and one of the most effective and empathetic voices in the country today, will be the headline prime-time speaker on Tuesday August 26th,” the statement said.

Wednesday is reserved for Obama’s as-yet-unnamed vice presidential running mate. In case anyone was still speculating, one can probably assume Clinton’s slot on Tuesday means she won’t be the veep.

Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, was not listed as a prime-time speaker during any night of the convention, but reports have said he will get a non-prime time slot Wednesday.

Obama will accept the nomination Thursday night and give his own speech, some four years after an address at Sen. John Kerry’s 2004 convention propelled Obama onto the national stage.

Obama told reporters he is working on that speech this week during a vacation in Hawaii.

Gina,

Where do you get your facts about Michelle being exposed to radical anti-Americans and a black liberation? I guess if you see this kind of smearing about the Obama’s in the media, to you-it must be true. …and because it helps to confirm what’s already in your heart…that you do not want to acknowledge and believe that Michelle and here family is one of INTEGRITY and HONOR!! Do you always like to piggyback of negativity towards Michelle…?
Do you know what it means to discern the truth from exaggeration?

Take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself…Are you better than folks who have a different..Or do you equally respect others in the same way as you do yourself? (Just a rhetorical question…no answer expected)

Anyways, I pray for God’s Best for YOU!

I agree, the DNC chose barack obama not the voters choice. If the endorsers of barack obama for president are all magnificent speakers with high sounding words so to speak…. in the end my forecast is they will lose again in November. As the saying goes “You can run but you can not hide”

to folks like loretta - if you are saying that hillary was somehow “tied” and should be the nominee, then it follows and gore should have “appealed” SCOTUS in a violent revolution? it’s an idea that is impossible. it’s america, it’s a lot of things, but above all, it abides (we hope!) in the rule of law. dems chose those laws, barack is in. if you have a problem with the two party system vote independent and don’t watch dnc. the practical options are to support obama or mccain, but hillary is done. and fyi, bill knew what aluding to jesse in SC would do. it was a calculated risk, so don’t count him a fool of “obamanites.” bill gambled and lost. hubris.

How ignorant can people be. So since your democratic candidate didn’t win the nomination your just going to vote for McCain. This is no longer about Hillary vs Obama. She lost. He won. It is now about Obama vs McCain and McCain is cleary a tragic choice and will only bring more havoc to our country. Open your eyes to see the truth. What sense does that make to just vote 4 McCain just bc Hillary lost. U would rather suffer another 4 years than to vote for someone who clearly demonstrates a vision that all Americans want. And what’s the big deal about Michelle speaking. Let her speak I’m sure everyone can learn something from her.

Let us not forget … that in addition to statements like ‘America is a mean country’ … and, ‘this is the first time in my adult life that I’m proud to be an American’ … Michelle Obama also made the decision to expose her children for years, to Jeremiah Wright, Pfleiger, Moss, Farakan, and the rest of the radical anti-American racists at the black liberation Trinity Church of Chicago. Is this who we want for America’s first lady … I don’t think so !!!

I’m really happy Hillary is showing fine class in supporting the nominee, but she was 2nd all the way through. It was not a popular vote if that had been so it would of only been campaigned in NY and Cali. She was also third in Cali. The GE is also not a popular vote so he Obama is ahead in that too.

It is the wisest move by Obam for him to introduce Michelle to America. Once people become aquainted with her they will realize what the smear camapign was against her.
