TOLEDO, Ohio - Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden commented on Sunday on the attractiveness of Republican John McCain’s new running mate, Sarah Palin.
Campaigning with Barack Obama in the
industrial state of Ohio, Biden digressed as he was drawing a contrast between his party’s approach on the economy and that of McCain’s party.
“There’s a gigantic — gigantic difference between John McCain and Barack Obama, and between me and, I suspect, my vice presidential opponent,” Biden said. “Well there’s obvious differences — she’s good looking,” he said of Palin, a 44-year-old Alaska governor and former beauty queen.
When a woman in the audience shouted out that she thought Biden was “gorgeous,” he drew laughter from the crowd when he asked her to make sure his wife heard that.
“I haven’t heard that in a long, long, long time,” said Biden, 65, who has thinning gray hair.
Referring to the 47-year-old Obama, he added, “Hanging around a lean, young-looking guy is making me feel pretty old, you know, what I mean? I thought I was in pretty good shape until I hung out with this guy.”

I’m sure Gov. Palin is a wonderful woman. But like many, I question her qualifications to be vice-president. McCain picked her out of all the other candidates from meeting her just once. This goes to show how he makes his decision- ‘off the cuff’ and sporadic; that’s a loose-cannon to me…I wouldn’t trust him to run this country.
- Posted by SteveWhy can’t Republicans step outside of the ideology for a min and think like rational Americans? If you love this country so much like you claim you do. You would be totally against someone so inexperienced being a heart Attack, stroke, cancer remission, etc. away from totally running and defending it. Her Experience as Gov. of Alaska is no way near a tool she can use in Washington and international politics… please think intelligently, push emotions about the dems aside and analyze this pick thoroughly.
Honestly Republicans should be insulted. Shouldn’t intelligence supercede “Maverickizm”. With all the talent and experience within the party he goes and picke an ex mayor of a town of 8000 people…(I have more people on my block than that) a 2 year Gov. of a state that doesn’t even have the population of my borough let alone the whole city, state, and COUNTRY…
We have Iran trying to develope Nukes, and Isreal a hair trigger away from attacking… We’re in Iraq and Afghanstan, Russia is flexing it’s military might… And if China feels it wants it’s presence felt… Is this the person you want taking over the command to defend it?
- Posted by SJWSarah Palin cannot naively assume that women will automatically vote for her. These votes were for Hillary Clinton and will not to be handed over the same way an inheritance would!! PS: I am now planning on joining the PTA!!!
- Posted by HatiIf you would close your eyes , or if you were blind would you be judgemental about a persons speach, or would you judge the speaker by the content of what he or she was saying???? I’m a registered Independant Voter. Come from a foreign country, now a naturalized citizen with a hope for change in our country. I listen, I’m not influenced by the media, I have children and grandchildren who have their future at stake, let’s all vote this time without dislike for something, but rather what we think our childrens future should be, let’s start today and be fair to judge instead the bashings of yesterdays. - Posted by BrunnenMcCain/Palin is obviously just a ploy to appeal to the “wandering Democrats” still considering voting for old man McCain because Hillary didn’t make it.
What it comes down to is substance, and Palin has none of that.
Obama/Biden 2008!
- Posted by ChristineA pretty good political tactic by McSame, risky but what’s he got to lose? Voters who share her right-wing ideas were never going to vote for Obama.
The timing was very good to steal the DNC news cycle.
I’ve just had about 8 years too much of GOP “conservative” governing.
What exactly is conservative about a 900 bazillion dollar deficit?
Obama/Biden
YES WE CAN take back our country.

Sad, that’s the word that comes to mind reading your responses.
Record - you’re an old-fashioned muck-racker. Best that you follow Pres. Lincoln’s line about opening your mouth … oh wait, too late.
DMM - She is on record opposing the bridge; who cares if she is paying attention to Iraq as Governor (she did have a job to do, which apparently she did well - 80% approval ratings); Abuse of power - following the maxim of innocent until proven guilty, yeah, we’ll all be interested in how that turns out.
Amazing how quickly people can turn viscious on someone they just met …

- Posted by TerriI am one who is very, very disappointed with McCains VP choice. I’m wasn’t sold on the Obama/Biden ticket, but it sure looks good to me now! I was very concerned with McCain,s age and was looking forward to his VP pic, but Palin is about a joke. A person that was the president of the PTA, and the gov. of Alaska for 2 years. It would have been a little differant if she was say, the gov. California, where the population is more than Atanta Georgia. I can’t say I would trust the country to anyone with that little experience. At least if something would happen to Obama I would feel safe knowing of Bidens experience in goverment. I really don’t think much of Obama, he seems arrogant. But I really like Joe Biden, he seems to me as a very down to earth person.
- Posted by Don from WvBig Oil Executive? Are you kidding me? He’s a northsloper that works his behind off. A blue collar hero is what Sarah Palin’s husband is.
- Posted by IronDogI know Sarah and her husband personally. They are humble, hard working people of humble background. Heck, I just moved from Wasilla, Ak back to the East coast. I heard rumors that she may be the pick, but boy am I happy that she is! More qualified females Record Straight? You can always argue that…no matter who is the candidate. Palin is an incredible pick that the liberals can’t knock no matter how hard they try. This was a truly winning pick. We now know that the next president will be Republican.
Go Gov. Sarah Palin! If you read her accomplishment as governor , it is impressive. At least with her 2 years experience, she fought off corruption even in her own party. While Obama has no record on his senatorial stint. He was busy trying to impress public in order to run as president. He is ALL MEDIA HYPE!!!! I hope americans will wake up. If you think Pres. Bush was a mistake. Obama is another huge mistake for you.
- Posted by TeresaNotice how sexist Democraps are. If your a Democrat you pretty much worthless, here is why: If Republican made the same comparison and only commented on the female in reference to physical beauty, that Republican would be called “sexist”. Yet when a Demoidiot does it, the is nothing wrong with it. Further, if a Republican said that the liberal biased media would be running it as a front page story and attempting to shade it as sexist.
- Posted by WOwShe may be pretty, but she is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Her poltics are typical Neanderthal right-wing Republican- anti-choice, anti-environment, pro-corporate. Maybe her lack of experience will make her less effective if elected, and therefore less of a risk to the country.
- Posted by DonWhile I am very much pro-Obama and Biden, I think it is regrettable that people are printing rumors about who the mother of Palin’s Down’s Syndrome child is. Either substantiate it, list the source, or eliminate it.
- Posted by Keith NewmanObama and Biden can win this issues, on common sense. Let’s keep Karl Rove in the Republican Party
To Robert:
You are correct. Her husband is just a regular Joe working for the oil company. So we should get that right.
But the other things we need to get right are:
1) she is on record as welcoming the “bridge to nowhere” federal money when McCain stated the opposite.
2) she is on record as saying she hasn’t paid any attention to Iraq
3) want to see the outcome of the the abuse of power investigation going on in her own state
So I am all for getting the record straight.
- Posted by DMMI find it strange that people can get even the most casual information incorrect. From all that I’ve read, Palin’s husband is a steelworker union member on the pipeline crew. So much for being an executive, unless that includes freezing your butt off in sub zero weather. Summers he spends commercial fishing. Anybody ever been in those waters??? I wouldn’t call that an executive job either.
Sounds like a real working class guy to me, and a couple trying to raise 5 kids.
“record straight” please get your records straight before you talk…
- Posted by RobertClinton and Obama have stood for election after years of serious preparation for every aspect of the job and running successful national campaigns in which their every view has been painstakingly challenged. All the chatter about Palin’s supposed “experience” is simply absurd. I doubt she could win a substantive debate on foreign policy with the average blogger, much less genuine national politicians. Anyone who claims she is ready to be VP is either a fool, a liar, or a charlatan. Apparently we have quite a lot of those around.
- Posted by Nomo StewIt will only be a matter of time until Obama refers to Palin as “sweetie”. At the vice presidential debate Joe Biden will tell Palin she has no foreign policy experience…and she’ll reply “yea, and in 1992 a young governor from Arkansas named Bill Clinton had no foreign experience either, but he did pretty well”….
- Posted by Russa lot more qualified female republicans
its just palin had the oil and the looks.
Her hubby is a bigshot in the oil industry.. i wonder how much they vetted this..Also the latest child she has with down syndrom there is a huge rumor it is her daughters because the 16 year old daughter has been out of the spotlight for a few months with suposed mono..
anybody have any picks of miss palin lately where she looks like she is showing?
She maybe good for alaska i dont know if she is ready for prime time yet for sombody who said they would rather lose a war than a campaign this is a big shocker
- Posted by record straightIt always comes down to that, doesn’t it? How someone looks, not her character or accomplishments. Oh, I forgot, this is the same senator who described Obama last year as “clean”. Hmmmm.
