LEBANON, Va - Democrat Barack Obama enjoys poking fun at his Republican opponents and their claims to being “agents of change.”
But Obama’s comments at a town-hall meeting in southwestern Virginia may have been misinte
rpreted by the audience.
“You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig,” he said as the crowd cheered and yelled and eventually got to their feet.
“You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It’s still gonna stink.”
“We’ve had enough of the same old thing.”
The audience, which had a particularly strong reaction whenever Obama mentioned Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, appeared to enjoy the “lipstick” comment the most.
When Palin gave her acceptance speech at the Republican convention in St. Paul she joked about being a hockey mom, saying the only difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom was lipstick.

OBAMA = BETRAYAL
- Posted by HowardObama supporters are foolish to think that he will never betray them.
Obama was a close friend of Pastor Wright for TWENTY YEARS.
Obama threw Wright under the bus for personal ambition.
McCain would not betray his country even after 5 years of torture.
You can put lipstick on a traitor, but he’s still a traitor.
Every nonstory & comment about pigs & lipstick is a victory for the right. These Rovian tactics take valuable time and attention away from the ISSUES. Because as soon as McCain & Palin are pressed to talk about the ISSUES, their flimsy house of cards they’re calling “maverick” flies apart and scatters in the wind.
THAT is what was meant by Sen. Obama in the first place. Just like the saying, You can sober up a horse thief, but he’s still a horse thief. All the chants about “reform” and “shaking up Washington” spewed by the McCain camp are about as likely as seeing an elephant pirouetting in a pink tu-tu.
Obfuscate & distract. Obfuscate & distract. Just like Sen. Obama said weeks ago, it’s the only thing the right knows how to do. That and sling mud (aka Swiftboating).
As for the comments criticizing Sen. Obama for going back on his word to not play dirty politics, screw that. Sen. Obama, who I believe has millions & millions more campaign dollars than McCain, is not broadcasting ads based on outright lies and that claim that his opponent sponsored a bill that teaches sex ed to kindergarteners. Utter bullshit. It makes me sick to see how low the right is willing to stoop to save their corporate subsidies.
Don’t you so-called conservatives understand? The Republican Party that exists today has NOTHING to do with helping the little guy or reducing the size of government. The party is owned by the oil cartel, multinational corporations, and especially the defense industry. The U.S. budget deficit is approaching $10 TRILLION! The Republican Party is responsible for emptying the Treasury & indebting us to countries the current regime doesn’t even like! The Republican Party lies, cheats, and steals to continue to prop up policies that cater to the all-powerful lobby.
And yet the rhetoric spewed by the right and regurgitated by the likes of Rush Limbaugh would have us believe that they’re going to right the wrongs in Washington and keep taxes low (which is economically impossible after the amount of money that has been squandered in the past 8 years by the Republican Party). It’s all a lie orchestrated to maintain status quo. And once Tom Delay, Scooter Libby, and Jack Abramoff (you know, the guy who stole millions of dollars from Native Americans?), among others, get out of prison, there will be even MORE incentive to toe the line.
I love this country just as much, if not more so, than the testosterone-induced men chanting USA! USA! at the RNC. That’s why I support Sen. Obama’s candidacy. Four more years of current policies will make this beautiful country weaker than ever. We can’t afford it.

Palin 2pts Obama zeroooooooooooooooooooooooo!
- Posted by EOilarAs an animal lover, I consider this comparison to Sarah Palin an insult to pigs everywhere.
- Posted by Jean BettannyHe should have said “Even if you put lipstick on a pitbull, it’s still a pitbull”. Palin is the one who initiated the metaphor for the big laugh. She can dish it out but can’t take it. Didn’t she criticize Hillary for being a whiner?
- Posted by cathyWhat happened to Obama’s idea of not attacking was reality: one loses if one is attacked but doesn’t attack. Turns out that one has to fight dirty in order to win. It’s part of the game, folks.
- Posted by Rohmayawhere is this same outrage over the use of “uppity” prior to this? guess that was okay with you?
- Posted by anonObama has a right to fight back. I would rather hear what he has to say about issues, but everyone has a right to fight back when they are being assaulted. McCain is so lame - it was his dishonest approach to the campaign that got Obama going in this direction to begin with.
