NEW YORK - No one could blame actress Tina Fey if she was privately hoping for a McCain-Palin victory in November.
The former “Saturday Night Live” star has been back on the show three times with her dead-on, ratings-stoking spoofs of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
The latest skit on Palin’s debate with Democratic rival Sen. Joe Biden poked fun at the Alaska governor for dodging specifics by repeating the Republican ticket’s “maverick” theme.
“We’re gonna ask ourselves what would a maverick do in this situation, and then ya’ know, we’ll do that,” Fey-as-Palin responded when pressed on how to deal with the financial crisis.
SNL’s Palin dismissed climate change as “this climate change, hoozie-what’s-it” and said she wanted to talk about taxes instead: “We are not afraid to get mavericky in there.”
The sharpest barb came when she was asked about benefits for same-sex couples: “I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers,” Palin replied, in a clear reference to her pregnant, teen-aged daughter who is due to marry the child’s father.
The SNL skit also ridiculed Biden, picking on his friendship with Republican candidate John McCain.
“Look, I love John McCain. He is one of my dearest friends. But at the same time, he’s also dangerously unbalanced … He’s bad at his job, and mentally unstable. As my mother would say, God love him, but he’s a raging maniac — and a dear, dear friend.”
Biden, played by Jason Sudeikis, said at the end that his goal was to not be seen like a “condescending, egomaniacal bully. And I’m gonna’ be honest. I think I nailed it.”

One thing this 2008 election has clarified for me is the elephant in the room being exposed. For many many years we have danced around racism in this country, and some still are rationalizing. But I am glad the mask is finally being pulled off and showing the world how phony this country is as it preaches its hypocrisy to other nations. That is why our credibility is so low. We will never gain respect and become the nation we are capable of being until we learn to respect and appreciate the intelligence of those who don’t look like us. I hope we have not sunk to the “dumbing of America”. We need help from everyone who can intelligently give. So for those of you who would rather continue the policies because you can’t deal with someone who doesn’t look like you, welcome to the bridge to nowhere.
- Posted by sandraI think SNL did a great job with the skit as well as making it obvious who Gwen was supporting.
- Posted by NatalieFern - I hope your comment was only intended to provoke and that you don’t actually believe what you’ve written in a literal sense. If you meant it, than I would say that you win the prize for the most ignorant comment, not to mention the hypocrasy that is encapsulated between your first and second paragraphs: “joe, do you realize that Alaska has about 700,000 residents, and that Wasilla had less than 9,000 when Palin was Mayor? And you probably didn’t realize that she hired a city manager to do all the real work, except for the hiring of her friends and the firing of her enemies.” It looks like you have not checked the real world facts - only the liberal fantasy facts. Maybe you should go to Alaska and warn the 700,000 residents who overwhelmingly approve of Sarah that they have dreadfully misjudged her and that with your wise guidance they can achieve great unhappiness and bitterness and then all will be well. Keep up the good work Fern!
- Posted by goatboyThe constant liberal attack on Palin while not even mentioning Bidens major errors, which there are many, is disgustingly one sided. Biden indicated that there is only 3 percent of the oil reserves in the US while we use 25%. We do not use 25% of the oil reserves. We use 25% of the yearly consumption of oil. Why hasn’t the liberal news media picked up on that. Also we have more than 3% of the oil reserves if you include the areas the liberals have fought to keep us from being energy independent. Another Biden blooper. Then there is the fact that Obama has taken the second largest financial donations of all senators from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, even though he has only been in office 3.5 years, and was responsible for the lowering of credit requirements that has caused the financial melt down. Why hasn’t the liberal media mentioned this. Where is the factual reporting? Where is the fairness in the media. The biased bull you see in the so called mainstream media is angering to me and many of the the folks I talk to on main street. As usual you will see on election day that the polls tooted by the so called mainstream media were wrong and as slanted as their news is.
- Posted by RockyWhen will the dim wit republicans get it that political parties are NOT sports teams? Loyalty to a party is not like rooting for sports. Your life, your home, your family- everything is at stake in whom you vote for, what they support, and who supports them. You would not hire an accountant, a business manager, a life insurance salesman, or a teacher because they were “pretty”, looked like you, wore blue and gold, threw a football well, or were “regular”. You want the best person for the job at hand. Period. Ignorance in this country is what is defeating us, and will cause our fall. The blame is clear.
- Posted by ParentDuring the debate with Biden, Palin looked like a girl taking her first driving test after heavy coaching, though allowed to drive her pre-learned route, not the tester’s one.
- Posted by IndependentBiden looked like a professional GreyHound bus driver, calm, skillful, and reliable one.
The question is who we, the bus passengers, would prefer to drive our bus, especially on current steep slope roads, and considering her far better chances to get to the wheel, if elected?
I would get in with Biden at the wheel, never with her: why risk your life even if a driver is cute?
fern- wake up. i said nothing about voting for anyone. i simply commented, similar to goatboy’s post above you, that the extreme insecurity of so many on the left manifests itself in these posts. for you and others to come down on a woman for working hard, getting the votes of the people, and serving her country- furthermore blaming HER for the mccain camp CHOOSING HER as the vp pick, says far more about your own personal issues of insecurity than any issues sarah palin might have. don’t you have something better to do? bitter, angry, sad people-
- Posted by joeI’ll dmit that Obama is no perfect candidate but compared to the Republican choices, he looks intelligent, calm, and informed. I’m not fond of the idea of Obama as president, but damnit, Mccain/Palin is the last thing I want to see in office.

Who among us is not?
Tim, can you be a “real american” fool?
If anyone out there doesn’t see that Obama is the next George Bush they are living in la la land. He’s exactly like Bush in the way that multitudes of people are following him over the cliff with out questioning who he really is. If he wins, everyone who votes for him will be embarassed to admit it in 4 years. Just like Bush.
- Posted by randy woodfinThis 3rd SNL parody of Sarah Palin was again funny.
It followed Palin’s performance very accurately as she really did ignore all the questions and instead spent the whole debate time talking about cutting taxes between using cutesy little words, folksy lingo and eye winks to thrill all those watching from home.
We can laugh now but if she somehow gets into office we definitely won’t be laughing then as our country keep going down the drain:(
- Posted by scoutSarah Palin offers up God’s creation in Alaska for the plunder of humans who ought to be a bit more conscious about it by now (but aren’t). She supplies a voice for Alaska as though its lands are her puppet. She lifts Alaska’s skirts and announces: “I have plenty of what you want.” This is not like what happened with West Virginia. West Virginia was straight up raped. Now, West Virginia is trying to regain its virginity … kind of. But back to Palin. This Palin stuff, it’s conscious. It’s “go grab yer condoms and let’s get down to it!” Miss Congeniality, indeed.
- Posted by LeahWith all the mistakes that Palin made Chris you don’t need to keep track of Biden’s mistakes. Yes she did better than expected but you can train a monkey to do just about anything which is evident from her performance. And if you want to know what’s up with Hezbollah, you need to learn how to spell it first because “Hezballah” is not correct. Have you been learning how to spell from Palin?
- Posted by DianeYou know I find it extremely interesting how so many of you in here can take a sound bite or paraphrased editorial and turn it into something it isn’t and never was intended to be. This goes for both parties… I am so sick of all of you (this applies to whomever it applies) seeing, reading, or hearing something and calling it the truth. Look at actions… voting records first of all… If they voting against something you didn’t agree with have any of you taken the time to email the candidate or write them and ask them why? I’d venture to say probably not… On top of that the majority of those bills introduced in the house or senate have so many ridiculous earmarks attached to them that it’s almost an impossibility for anyone to vote on anything without being called out on something else…. This has got to stop… No earmarks…. No earmarks… No earmarks… During a time of complexity, simplicity is the best policy.
- Posted by Lee from LA.Ride-on SNL,I’m not supprised why some of these GOPers are so angry at what Tina Fey is doing. That shows clearly how inexperienced Sarah Paliar is.How on earth did she become the Mayor and Govenor of Alaska? She doesn’t know one decision she disagrees with the supreme nor any news papers she reads? That shows how dumb and stupid she is and I ashamed at those who don’t see her as a risky choice should she get into the white house and have to make decisions on behalf of the American people should McCain being four times a cancer survivor God forbids dies.Is she the one you want to make those decisions? You know what this is pathetic. This woman looks so nervous even answering some of the very simple questions a 3rd grader can answer after waking up from sleep.I’m not supprised at the Gopers now going personal because they have reached a dead end to the road to nowhere and they think they can score points? That’s stupid of and naive of them. But I’m sorry the American people are smarter than that and are more worried about their pocket books not these bunch of deceivers who think can take this Country further into the gutter just like GWB did?Wake up America open your mindssssssssss.
- Posted by MaverickTo Champ:
Those behaviors were not gender specific and could be expected of anyone overwhelmed in a stressful situation. Palin’s performance has only been deemed “good” relative to her prior disastrous displays. While she may be brave and strong, she is simply not qualified as evident not only in the answers she gives (e.g. I live next to Russia), but in her inability to answer questions with any trace of knowledgeable detail. Fey and Poehler would be providing a greater disservice to their gender if they choose to ignore these facts for the sake of “sisterhood”.
I’d always been a McCain supporter, but his purely political choice of this “speaking-in-tongues” creationist clearly demonstrated that his primary concern is winning this election and certainly not putting our country’s future first.
- Posted by PitbullI like the skit SNL did of Nancy Pelosi being a nutjob. What did you say? That was CSPAN, not SNL? Wow.
- Posted by DeeTina Fey does a great impersonation. But the glaring liberal leaning of SNL makes their attempts at criticizing Palin irrelevant.
Can you imagine the uproar if the Republicans tried to put someone with Obama’s lack of experience in the White House as President? They don’t even want someone with more experience than Obama to run as VP! How ridiculous!
The Dems have already said that the only reason people won’t vote for Obama is b/c of his color. How small-minded is that?!
I’d like someone to explain to me why the media will not talk about Obama’s connection to the Muslim Saudis.
“At the time Percy Sutton, a former business partner of al-Mansour, says he was raising money for Obama’s graduate school education, al-Mansour was representing top members of the Saudi Royal family seeking to do business and exert influence in the United States.
In 1989, for example — just one year after Obama entered Harvard Law School — The Los Angeles Times revealed that al-Mansour had been advising Saudi billionaires Abdul Aziz and Khalid al-Ibrahimin their secret effort to acquire a major stake in prime oceanfront property in Marina del Rey, Calif., through “an elaborate network of corporate shells in California, the Caribbean and Europe.”
At the same time, he was also advising Prince Alwaleed bin Talal in his U.S. investments, and sits on the board of his premier investment vehicle, Kingdom Holdings.
Prince Alwaleed, 53, is the nephew if King Abdallah of Saudi Arabia. Forbes magazine ranked him this year as the 19th richest person on the planet, with a fortune in excess of $23 billion. He owns large chunks of Citigroup and News Corp., the holding company that controls Fox News.
He is best known in the United States for his offer to donate $10 million to help rebuild downtownManhattan after the 9/11 attacks. But after the prince made a public comment suggesting that U.S.policies had contributed to causing the attacks, Mayor Rudy Giuliani handed back his check.
“I entirely reject that statement,” Giuliani said. “There is no moral equivalent for this (terrorist) act. There is no justification for it. The people who did it lost any right to ask for justification for it when they slaughtered 4,000 or 5,000 innocent people.”
Since then, Prince Alwaleed’s Kingdom Foundation has given millions of dollars to Muslim charities in the United States, including several whose leaders have been indicted on terrorism-related charges in federal courts.
He also has given tens of millions of dollars to Harvard and other major U.S. universities, to establish programs in Islamic studies.” http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/art icle/4821
Do we want to cut spending in Washington, or do we want to increase spending? Why don’t we make it optional as to whether we want to be “patriotic” or not? I for one, do not want an Obama tax hike to cover programs I don’t support!
