SNL spoofs Palin vs Biden debate

NEW YORK - No one could blame actress Tina Fey if she was privately hoping for a McCain-Palin victory in November.

The former “Saturday Night Live” star has been back on the show three times with her dead-on, ratings-stoking spoofs of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

The latest skit on Palin’s debate with Democratic rival Sen. Joe Biden poked fun at the Alaska governor for dodging specifics by repeating the Republican ticket’s “maverick” theme.

“We’re gonna ask ourselves what would a maverick do in this situation, and then ya’ know, we’ll do that,” Fey-as-Palin responded when pressed on how to deal with the financial crisis.

SNL’s Palin dismissed climate change as “this climate change, hoozie-what’s-it” and said she wanted to talk about taxes instead: “We are not afraid to get mavericky in there.”

The sharpest barb came when she was asked about benefits for same-sex couples: “I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers,” Palin replied, in a clear reference to her pregnant, teen-aged daughter who is due to marry the child’s father.

The SNL skit also ridiculed Biden, picking on his friendship with Republican candidate John McCain.

“Look, I love John McCain. He is one of my dearest friends. But at the same time, he’s also dangerously unbalanced … He’s bad at his job, and mentally unstable. As my mother would say, God love him, but he’s a raging maniac — and a dear, dear friend.”

Biden, played by Jason Sudeikis, said at the end that his goal was to not be seen like a “condescending, egomaniacal bully. And I’m gonna’ be honest. I think I nailed it.”

What is the big deal about a possible VP. What did the last VP do? Nothing except shoot a friend in the face with a shotgun!!! Plus he’s fat and talks like a know-it-all. Make fun of dick!
I’m a flaming GOP’er and will be casting my vote for Obama. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want a change.

I love how the repubs don’t find Tina Fey’s impersonation as Ms. Mooseburger funny….its too close to the, “gosh dirn it” truth, LOL! Fey, highlights just what a awful pick John Mccain did. As usual they complain…”their on Obama’s side” lol….Get Real!!!

beg to differ - this is REALLY funny (but not so funny at the same time because the Palin imitation is real life). Hats off to you SNL for nailing it again!!!! I’m guessing the only people who can’t admit this is funny stuff are those still trying to convince themselves if they vote for McCain that Palin as a VP will really be ok. WRONG.

Fey is great, but Palin was actually pretty darn good during the debate against the experienced senator that made six “mis-statements in one 60 second span. Could someone tell Biden what is up with Hezballah?

John McCain has made a mockery of American politics by selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate. Palin’s selection, which wouldn’t fly in any field that requires credentials, is a testament to the Republican propaganda machine. The fact that a large segment of the population has bought into the notion that education, knowledge, and intellect doesn’t matter, is truly baffling and very troubling. We should all be outraged that John McCain has put our country at risk by attempting such a cynical political stunt.

Maverick
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A maverick is an unbranded range animal, especially a motherless calf; it can also mean a person who thinks independently; a lone dissenter; a non-conformist or rebel.

Is Maverick politics what we need, pah-lease!!! A lone dissenter…NO THANKS!!!

Nice job SNL, again. Keep up the good fight.

As has been the American way since our political system was conceived, humor has a valid place in our discourse. Nothing points out hypocrisy better than humor, and a good laugh.

Palin clearly maintains a psyche(neocon) that believes she’s not beholden to the American people (ala GWB, Cheney). For there to be such a broad range of material for SNL to cherry pick, really is a testament to her diversions and deceit as well.

SNL and other comedy shows (i.e. The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, Family Guy, etc.) should all be viewed by America as an adjunct to politics as usual.

BTW, I too consider myself a Republican.

The other skit that night with Nancy P. was indicative of how blind the Democrats really are when it comes to Acorn. Obama is recorded to have received over $100,000 dollars in his two short years as Senator from ACORN which pushed to allow mortgages being allowed to those who could walk away once the balloon payments started. I live in a neighborhood of empty homes being vandalized….I appreciated showing both sides at SNL

Larry - I agree with you. Do you think McCain has run a campaign worthy off the office? Funny is funny. If we’re keeping score of distortions, its not true that both sides do it equally.

There is no “e” in McCain. McCain was cleared of any wrong doing over the Keating Five.

It may be American narcissism to think of the President as the \”leader of the Free World,\” especially since Vietnam. The U.S. \”empire\” is hopefully at its end and the country will hopefully be moving toward a positive role among the community of nations. The SNL skits point out precisely why Palin is unsuitable in the role. The parodies hardly change a word of her real-life dialogue and she comes off — justifiably — laughable.

meh, SNL always fails when doing politics… they only prove how out of touch their characatures are with reality. they should stick to skewering brittney spears… because the last time they were popular also happened to be the last time SNL was funny

SNL stopped being funny when Chris Farley died. They are clearly in the tank for Obama. It’s funny that they actually still think they are relevant. Outside of the elitist snob cliche, they do not relate with real Americans.

With regards to the founding fathers as mentioned by Sara Palin during the debate, does she have any idea of the Americian civil war, the blood & sacrifices that went into making America of what it is today. Todd Palin her husband was in a group that wanted to seperate Alaska. In other words, get America back into the days of civil wars. If she had some sense of Patriotism how could she have alinged with him as a life partner. I see some falseness in her. Mccain choosing, her to be his VP seems just another stunt, generally used in third world country politics.

Palin may have little depth, Bush doesn’t either for that matter, and that enhances her appeal to people without much depth themselves to whom depth and complexity are “tricky and elitist.” That describes a high portion of the voting public especially those who prefer their religion and view of god to be presented in shades of black and white. These are folks that that want a literal interpretation of a book that was not originally written in English, by unknown authors and assembled by a process they know next to nothing about.

As the campaign enters the final phase, it is becoming clear that Palin has the ability to cut the pork in the Federal budget and that the Obama ticket is all about increased spending to fund many new government-sponsored programs. In view of the state of our economy, is this really a good time to be expanding Federal programs, however noble they may be?

There are a few exceptions of course, like the idea of reviving the Civilian Conservation Corps., putting citizens to work as volunteers to rebuild our infrastructure in America. That idea is one either party can accomplish.

Last night was funny-but our local radio station-WBLM did a take on it the morning after that was hilarious They noticed the chemistry between Biden & Palin. At the closing, Biden definitely held onto Palin’s hand/arm for an unusually long time. I think all of this is ok if it is done for fun. But,in reality, Palin did a pretty good job to the surprise of many.

Palin is a person with very little depth. Her ego has become more inflated, and she had the audacity to state, after McCaine pulled out of Michigan, that she and Todd would go there, campaign, and save the day. I thought Todd was watching their children. But then again what more can happen now that their unmarried daughter is pregnant?
If the Republicans are taking the low road, again, then it is time to remind the voters of the “Keating Five” and John McCaines involvement in the savings and loan scandal. I would tend to consider him less a maverick, than someone who escaped jail.
