SNL spoofs Palin vs Biden debate

NEW YORK - No one could blame actress Tina Fey if she was privately hoping for a McCain-Palin victory in November.

The former “Saturday Night Live” star has been back on the show three times with her dead-on, ratings-stoking spoofs of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

The latest skit on Palin’s debate with Democratic rival Sen. Joe Biden poked fun at the Alaska governor for dodging specifics by repeating the Republican ticket’s “maverick” theme.

“We’re gonna ask ourselves what would a maverick do in this situation, and then ya’ know, we’ll do that,” Fey-as-Palin responded when pressed on how to deal with the financial crisis.

SNL’s Palin dismissed climate change as “this climate change, hoozie-what’s-it” and said she wanted to talk about taxes instead: “We are not afraid to get mavericky in there.”

The sharpest barb came when she was asked about benefits for same-sex couples: “I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers,” Palin replied, in a clear reference to her pregnant, teen-aged daughter who is due to marry the child’s father.

The SNL skit also ridiculed Biden, picking on his friendship with Republican candidate John McCain.

“Look, I love John McCain. He is one of my dearest friends. But at the same time, he’s also dangerously unbalanced … He’s bad at his job, and mentally unstable. As my mother would say, God love him, but he’s a raging maniac — and a dear, dear friend.”

Biden, played by Jason Sudeikis, said at the end that his goal was to not be seen like a “condescending, egomaniacal bully. And I’m gonna’ be honest. I think I nailed it.”

Saddly, and most scary of all, the 700 billion dollars had to be borrowed from some where. Where do you think it was borrowed? Europe? Certainly not! Europe is in as much of a predicament as the US. China is the real answer. The country that is so at odds with the US now owns a huge share in it’s national debt.
Think about it people. This country is now OWNED by a super power that can’t stand it. Not only that, but a lot of what is exported from the US goes to China, what if they were to suddenly close their borders? The US would be bankrupt and unable to pay back their debt? China would become the new governing power of America. Think about it…One point eight billion people to America’s how many? Bush did this to this country and he is going to walk away from it. If anyone thinks that McCain wouldn’t raise taxes they are TRULY mistaken. The only way to get out of this crisis is to raise taxes. McCain would just lie about the tax issue until he was in the whitehouse and then BAM. Taxes coming out of your ears. And you can take that to the bank!
Just food for thought…

“NEW YORK - No one could blame actress Tina Fey if she was privately hoping for a McCain-Palin victory in November.”

In her own words: “I want to be done playing this lady by 5 November,” she said backstage at the Nokia Theatre after the Emmy Awards. “So if anybody can help me be done playing this lady, that would be good for me.”

Unlike the REPUBLICAN ELITE she would rather put Country First over her own good fortune.

When Pat Paulson ran for president at least he understood it was a joke!

That’s pretty deep there, Byron.

Palin crammed for her “pop quiz” so she could past the test. Canned answers got her through. Still, she has no qualifications for the VP position. Vice President of the US needs someone who understands what they are talking about, not just someone who can memorize soundbites.

Who are all these people that say Palin did a good job at the debate. Is there a debate I missed? Good in what way? That she managed to speak in intelligible phrases? Is that all it takes to convince the American people that she’s ready to be vice president? If Americans are that stupid, hey, maybe we can sell them another bridge to nowhere. Palin is so bad that SNL writers don’t even bother to edit much of what she actually says. The only reason Fey is so funny is that she captures the empty-headedness that Palin projects. I loved the quip about the talent portion!

From some of the shocking comments above–I’m thinking I should just throw in the towel and start sitting every evening with Fox News, not use my brain at all, and wait to turn into a droid. To consider Palin as a viable candidate is an absolute disgrace to this country. Barbara above–do you know what propoganda is when you see it? You seem to believe when Republicans say the other side will raise taxes, create a huge government, and cost Americans jobs? Hello–what was the $700 billion bailout, how many jobs have been shipped abroad, how has Cheney/Bush benefited from gas money. Palin and her husband will personally do quite well when “drill baby drill” goes into affect. And alternative energy and smart technology will go by the wayside again (like 70s, 80s,90s). Let’s get every ounce of that oil out of the earth so that we can make as much personal income as possible–that’s what the Bush/Cheney/Palin’s are about. And if they are so “christian” and moral why do they allow the earth to be ravaged–the beautiful earth to be destroyed?!?!

McCain and Palin seem really really lame. The only voters who can get excited about them are hard-core Republicans who just want their side to win and are willing to overlook all the hypocrisy and irresponsibility. It’s easy for any comedian to point it out, but hard to get it through some people’s heads.

*Every* *single* *thing* has gone wrong for this country since Bush took office. And, the red-states still re-elected him. Frankly, if the red states elect another dumb-ass administration, then they would be getting what they deserve, but we should not all suffer for it.

Thanks to SNL, voters have a relief for the absurdity of the Palin choice. It is incredulous that Republican strategists keep of the vidgil of supporting her as being ready for the presidency. The nation is one month will make a choice between these two candidates. And here we are talking about the silliness of Sarah Palin. There are issues of vital importance that the American people must have a change. John McCain does not help the people that are loosing their homes. John McCain does not address the financial ruin of people with ungodly health care bills. He does increase the taxes of teachers, firefighters, and policemen because he is going to tax their health plans. He offers little hope of ending the war in Iraq. But, NO, instead of an intelligent discussion of the issues, Palin is accusing Obama of being friend of terrorists. And where is this terrorist? Ayers is a professor of the University of Chicago, who is training teachers and making a difference in education. He is no more a terrorist than John McCain, Sarah Palin, and Barack Obama are habitual marijuana smokers. So putting that aside, let’s stay on the issues in light of the fact that in less than four weeks America votes

SNL hit the nail on the head again. Obama doesn’t need to attack Sarah Palin because she gives the press and comedians so much ammunition and makes such a huge tempting target of herself that they will do the job for him.

Good thing SNL has the election for skits. Otherwise the show has sucked for several years.

SNL could just replay the actual debate and that would be funny as well! :-)

Todays situation in politics is a bitter sweet sign of what has brought our society to carry such heavy burdens of social disease.

Captain Obvious and Tim: Did you actually watch the skit? Apparently not. They nailed it perfectly and it was hilarious.

Does this not bother at least one liberal out there? I thought liberals didn’t judge people over personal issues like a pregnant teen in the family.

I guess you have to win at all costs.

I will never feel good about NBC or SNL ever again. Too bad really since I loved them in the past.

They need to take it to the next level and have Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey do McCain/Palin.

SNL needs all the help it can. They haven’t been funny in years!

I see the talking points memo went out from moveon/dug/koz (the Hate America First crowd) and the key phrase today on Palin is “no depth”. Before you talk of Palin’s mention of the founding fathers, I would suggest that you take that shining member of the Judiciary Committee and have him look up Article 1 of the Constitution. Maybe he missed what was said about Article 1 when FDR was giving that speech on TV during the Great Depression.

I did not see the skit last night. I did see some of the clips on fox news this morning. I am a Palin fan, and I think Tina is very funny. Tina does a good job with the likeness. Like one person said funny is funny. This will not change my mind at all about Palin.

I only saw part of the skit, but was not too impressed. It could be funny, if SNL also did similar skits on Senator Obama. When will these be aired? Perhaps these could focus on Senator Obamas’ associations, such as with a black racist minister (Rev Jeremiah White), known terrorist and anarchist (Bill Ayers AND his wife), and Wall St. geniuses who ran Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae into the ground while taking tens of millions for themselves, and are now advising the Obama campaign on economics. SNL, I look forward to your skit on the Obama/Biden ticket. Oh yes, let’s not forget that Senator Biden thinks Senator Obama is not ready to be President. He covered that during the debate by saying he would be in the room with Obama whenever there were decisions to be made. Is this the making of another co-Presidency?

I will never vote republican again. The want private profits but public bailout when they get too risky. They have no downside, Bush deregulates, puts his friends in the watchdog agencies or de-populates the agencies so they can’t do their job. Republican are for screwing us, at least the Dems want to kiss us when they do.

The skit was funny, but if you want to laugh your self to death…. read President Sarah Palin’s thought process.
“Oil and coal? Of course, it’s a fungible commodity and they don’t flag, you know, the molecules, where it’s going and where it’s not. But in the sense of the Congress today, they know that there are very, very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first. So, I believe that what Congress is going to do, also, is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it’s Americans that get stuck to holding the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here. It’s got to flow into our domestic markets first.”
