NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Good or bad, you can’t accuse the John McCain campaign of not having a sense of humor.
The Republican presidential candidate’s staff handed out cufflinks — yes, cufflinks — on Tuesday to surprised reporters with an unexpected decoration on top: a mock presidential seal for rival Democrat Barack Obama and the Illinois senator’s web site.
That’s not all. On the back, carefully engraved, were the words “The One.”
Subtle? Not so much. The Arizona senator’s aides often poke fun at the messianic quality they feel Obama assumes and his supporters accept. Both sides have grown increasingly negative as the campaign enters its last month and McCain finds himself slightly behind in the latest polls.
Obama used a faux presidential seal on a podium at a campaign event earlier this year, drawing some ridicule and criticism for being presumptuous. He never used it again.
The Obama camp was not amused.
“People are struggling, and they want to hear about what these candidates are going to do to fix the economic crisis,” Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said. “It’s unfortunate that the McCain campaign is instead focused on these silly distractions.”

Sylvia,
“I pray that the smarter and stronger Americans stand up for the weaker and less intelligent ones” ???????
That is typical left-wing BS. You buy into this so-called Messiah and then actually include yourself in the smarter and stronger category?
Which Messiah are you praying to?
- Posted by DanUh-uh-uh-bama characteristically whined: “It’s unfortunate that the McCain campaign is instead focused on these silly distractions.”
Sure. It’s always a “distraction” whenever the other side points out The One’s character flaws. But, it’s not a distraction for Doh-bama to CONSTANTLY campaign against President Bush, or make “lipstick on a pig” comments?
If you’re going to be President, grow a pair, Obama. You sound like a sissy with your whining and crying at every turn. Kim Jung Il will eat you alive if you face him with that attitude.
- Posted by ynot4tony2First off , the first paragraph said he gave the cuff links to the media that was preasent, to you overly intellagent, this is a sign that he believes that they are in the tank for BHO. It says nothing about handing them out to street people like you.
- Posted by JamesProblem with McCain is that he doesn’t do nearly enough of this sort of thing. Obama deserves nothing but scorn, contempt, and ridicule. He is without doubt the very worst Presidential candidate in United States History. A man who has a perfect Communist voting record of 100 according to the National Journal and even the Marxist ADA.
But McCain lobs softballs at the guy.
Libertarians will end up voting for Bob Barr, cause McCain is just too soft on Obama.
- Posted by Eric DonderoHEY WINGNUTS! Could you take a break defending MCSAME and let me know where I can buy those cufflinks please?
- Posted by Larryhahaha…look at all “The One” supporters who suddenly have a sense of humour failure
I guess someone should get out the truth squad eh?
hahaha.
- Posted by MailmanMiddle Man, your mythical candidate sounds like a cross between McCain and Palin. In bed with nazi sympathizers? Check. Aligned with an anti-American group? Check (the Alaska Indpendence Party.) And John McCain sat on a board of a right wing group that funded Bin Laden, so I guess you need to put up a different hypothetical because you have described McCain/Palin.
- Posted by HopeImagine if his name were Barry O’Brien. When you look at his record you discover that he spent 20 years in a white supremacist church and was attracted to neo-Nazi authors and methods. Along the way, he started his political career in the home of an unrepentant abortion clinic bomber and even sat with this terrorist on the board of a right-wing foundation that wasted millions of tax-payer dollars in the promotion of Nazi ideas. Would we even be having a conversation about his qualifications to be President of the United States?
- Posted by Middle ManNow, for Barack Obama, simply insert the words “black supremacist,” “Marxist,” “the US Capitol building and American military targets,” and “left-wing” in the above narrative. He is simply too inexperienced, too unaccomplished and too dangerous to take the risk. Please, wake up America, or you will pay dearly for your thirst for “change.”
After hearing both of the candidates final remarks for the second time I was impressed by John McCain’s words. Play it again if you don’t believe me, but folks, that was from the heart and was powerful. Don’t buy it? Guess what? Your dead inside and don’t know it. As a life long Democrat, I now know with out any doubt that I want this man to be my President.
- Posted by GregAs the election gets closer it would seem that the storm troopers of the lunatic left have lost all semblance of a sense of humor. They are becoming so deranged by any criticism of the messiah that it is necessary to keep sharp objects out of their reach. God only knows what they will do if the “one” loses.
- Posted by paulejbignoring the tackiness of that aside, I would like to point something out:
Obama still wants to raise taxes on $250k+. Bill Clinton promised the same thing ($200+), had a Democratic Congress and anyone remember what happened? Less than 1 year later, everyone making over $20,000 got their taxes RAISED. Second point on this is that when the stockmarket crashed in 1929 and people made runs on banks, the credit market locked up (sound familiar?). Government raised taxes in 1932 on the wealthy, and unemployment spiked in 1933 at 25% roughly the same time.
The effect of the tax increases was that the depression lasted until the end of the decade. The stock market did not fully recover until 1954 almost 25 years after the crash. We would do well to learn the lessons of the past. Ask yourself… What good is a tax break if you don’t have a job?
Also of note the Obama camp has been making much ado about nothing on the Bill Ayers thing. On face value, it would appear that it is. It seems that history is repeating itself. In 1992 Republicans attacked Clinton on character. Clinton’s womanizing was brought to light, and it was played off as much ado about nothing.
Well, 5 years later the dirty laundry of our president was drug out all over world TV and we were redefining what the meaning of the word “is” is. An embarassment to say the least, and at the most permanent damage to our credibility and perceived morality as a country.
- Posted by RossHowever, this time the stakes aren’t as “inocuous” as adultery, this time the associations go to a type of people that believe that bombing government buildings, revolt against authority, “children should rise up and kill their parents parents” (source: CNN), etc. Obama distributed $50 million for this guy… yet he plays his relationship as inconsequential… How consequential does a relationship have to be to trust a guy with $50M?
Do yourself a favor and surf over to cafepress.com and buy an “I’ll Take That One” teeshirt. Far better than those cufflinks.
- Posted by JeriIt is funny watching the left get indignant about a joke. I swear every lefty I see posting online reminds me of an angry virgin dork from high school.
- Posted by FairyLibIf the United States of America wants to be a leader, then it must lead in a way that makes the World WANT to follow. That is a Leader. The otherway is Dictatorship.
Out of the two candidates, which one seems more like a Leader who would inspire? Not only America but the World?
One day you might wake up and find that the world no longer cares what you think…… THINK ABOUT IT.

Just like Rome…. Or the Third Reich.
[...] Update: Maybe McCain just meant to say “The One”? [...]

- Posted by The College Politico » Blog Archive » Is it bad when the Conserv-O-Sphere needs comic relief? The McCain camp clearly has nothing better to do… if they were in charge of the country… this is what they would do with their time.
- Posted by ldbMcCain got plenty of earmarks for his homestate of Arizona. I am from Arizona, look up the record TuffCookie! Another uninformed Republican!
- Posted by suzykuMcBlame’s campaign gets lower and lower and lower. Maybe they’ll just disappear into a sink hole! Tomorrow they’ll go back to the muckraking and lies which both of them seem to be so good at! Both mcblame and failin have shown themselves to be not only tacky and classless but to also have a total lack of integrity. These two republican candidates are an embarrassment to this country and she is a complete moron and embarrassment to all women and proves that mcblame has NO judgment!
- Posted by suzykuOk, let me get this straight. We’ve got serious problems. And that means we should back Barack Obama, the man who saw the need to create his own presidential seal? Shouldn’t he be worried about getting elected first?
Oh, and yes, the polls do show Obama slightly ahead. Zogby, CBS, and several others. I love how the media wants to convince anyone not aboard “the one” bus to just GIVE UP!
I know they tried that with Hillary voters to suppress the vote. Funny, though, Hillary managed to win quite a few major primary votes despite Obama’s “overwhelming lead” in the polls.
Seriously, no wonder McCain mocks Obama. Obama’s a bully, who can’t take a joke.
