WASHINGTON - The AARP believes it has found someone who can break the gridlock in Washington.
But the influential nonpartisan group that represents older Americans isn’t about to break its 50-year tradition and endorse a presidential candidate.
Instead, on Tuesday it launched an entertaining get-out-the vote campaign with an Internet video which allows recipients to see their own names featured in campaign t-shirts and other paraphernalia as someone who can “shake up Washington.”
“The primary motivation behind our video is simple: we want to encourage people to vote this November 4th,” the AARP says.
The group said it is sending millions of personalized e-mails to members, who then can pass on campaign videos featuring their friends.

I’m a 64-year-old veteran. Fool me once (The donut hole in prescription drug benefits) fool me twice (divided we fail). I am a little smarter than what you think I be. We (old folks) ain’t all W’s and please stop treating seniors as though we were. I actually completed flight training and went to Vietnam (unlike your made up heros who are myths that belong on video games). I never crashed an aircraft and I have a number of rescue awards (medals) for saving lives. Please STOP representing yourself as the champion of veterans and seniors when, in fact, you are the opposite.

Yeah thanks, to all of you who helped screw us in the republican primary of 2000 and the general election of 2004 as you voted for lying, weasel Bush and you’ll screw us again in 2008 if you vote for lying, weasel Obama. Both the same media style, popularity candidates packaged and sold by their respected parties lacking REAL records. Gee thanks all ya’ll who dropped the ball in 2004 and re-elected Bush despite the fact he was managing this country into tyranny and despair and gee thanks ahead if you get your way while you’re pouting and blaming Bush for everything even though you voted him back in! Take no accountability for the strategy of your votes. You knew what was best for us in 2000 and 2004 so I bet we can be quite confident that you all know what’s best for us in 2008. Yeah, go ahead and vote all democrats in, show Bush and those other republicans that many of you voted into another majority in 2004. Yeah, you’ll show ‘em. Screw us all over and elect people with the word democrat printed next to their name on the congressional roll call vote lists to be unchecked to lead us deeper into tyranny. That’ll show those republicans because the people in government with the word democrat next to their names on the roll call vote sheets are so much more reasonable. Yeah, you’ll show ‘em by destroying the fabric of this country and the freedom it once stood for. Yeah, you’ll show ‘em, let’s just get stuff done. Let’s get more tyranny into our government. No better way then a political party monopoly in the house, senate and presidency in a candidate who doesn’t have much of a REAL record and who uses the word “change”, exactly like Bush in 2000. Yeah, check the Bush’s speech in 2000, he promised change WAY before anybody knew anyone named OBAMA - I bet lot of ya thought that word was new and that Obama owned it. Go get ‘em independents, democrats and republicans who don’t bother with research and facts. Go get ‘em kids.

Gov. Sarah Palin, for example, takes state oil revenues to finance thousand-dollar-checks to Alaskan voters each year, and to finance her campaign.
But wait - Alaska has no sales tax and no income tax. Where to get the money for roads, schools and bridges, after sending out the checks and emptying the state’s treasury?
Sarah, Queen of Pork knows:
–she grabs hundreds of millions from US taxpayers, including millions earmarked for the Bridge to Nowhere (flip-flopping for it before she was against it),
–she even grabbed millions in US taxpayer money by hiring a D.C. lobbying firm while she was the small-town mayor of Wasilla (pop. 7,000)!
Palin boondoggles taxpayers from the lower 48 states to pay for “welfare socialism” in Alaska, and babbles on about “government get out of my way” in the debate with Biden! What a great Pres. She would make!!!
And how about her position on rape, and on rape victims, for example.
Some women (and men) can also still recall that, while Palin was mayor of Wasilla, female rape-victims reporting the crime were forced to pay for the forensic kit needed in the work-up out of their own pocket, a rare state of affairs even in Alaska.
Palin also favors compelling women by law to carry any pregnancy caused by rape to full term and birth.
I’d appreciate an article about “Rape Finally Arriving as a Political Issue” one of these days!
Maybe with an interview by an honest journalist with Palin asking her to explain her positions, and her public record, as noted above?
The downside of the coming McCain/Palin election defeat is that she’ll soon have more time for her hobbies, like shooting defenseless wolves out of planes and helicopters!

S. government’s policy to get tax dollars to private companies instead of setting up viable, real programs that would pay health care costs directly to the people they’re supposed to help. My wife and I dropped our membership in AARP after realizing that it’s basically just an insurance company using seniors as a cover.
