China rising

Photographer Carlos Barria arrived in China's financial hub one year ago and rediscovered his passion for street photography. Arriving from Miami, Carlos had a preconceived notion of China as a country of factories and farms and hadn’t thought much about the cities. Wandering through the city streets he began to familiarize himself with a more modern society, one characterized by a large, growing and unstoppable middle class. 38 PHOTOS

Even the Chinese can’t define what their middle class is.
