Photo of Helms

helms.jpg

What a despicable display of hostility on your part to run such an awful photo of a man who just died. I was no fan of Jesse Helms but show some class, for once, when it comes to conservative matters. Your liberal bias really does not flatter you!

Rich J.

Not the best photo choice, no. We replaced it with something a little better: GBU Editor

Bad choice of photos

prostate-400.jpg

Why do you illustrate this story with an image of an obese woman? No woman, whatever her size, is at risk for prostate cancer.

A good point. We dropped the photo: GBU Editor

The right Green River?

Amtak does not serve Wyoming. Could the second picture be Green River Utah?

Carol

Our caption was correct. The train made a detour through Wyoming because of track work in Colorado, and this was indeed Green River, Wyoming: GBU Editor

The wrong co-founder

Posted by: The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly Editor

ballmer.jpgIn your video regarding Bill Gates leaving Microsoft and how Steve Ballmer will become the leader at Microsoft, you incorrectly stated that Steve Ballmer co-founded Microsoft.

He did not. Microsoft was started by Paul Allen and Bill Gates. Steve Ballmer joined Microsoft in 1980, that being after it was founded.

Obama criticizes McCain on immigration

obama-200.jpgPolls show Obama has rebounded among Hispanics since clinching the Republican nomination. Many polls show McCain falling short of Bush’s 40 percent of Hispanic support.

The lead story on Reuters/Yahoo contains this curious mis-statement of fact. You may wish to re-consider this! :-)

The picture that you are posting of Scruggs is not Scruggs.

We erred in using a photo of another lawyer with the same name. We did a correction, and have pulled that photograph from the story: GBU Editor

Too much dirt

Martian soil appears able to support life

lander-200.jpgThe 1 cubic meter (35 cubic feet) of soil was taken from about 1 inch below the surface of Mars and had a pH, or alkaline, level of 8 or 9. “We were all flabbergasted at the data we got back,” Kounaves said.

The correct measure is approximately 1 cubic centimeter. A cubic meter is nearly as large as the craft itself.

Edward S.

Are you serious? 1 cubic meter of soil? Exactly how big is this Martian lander anyway? This has to be an error. You’d almost need a grading permit to move that much soil around here.

Fury in Phoenix

Posted by: The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly Editor

Lawman’s raid on immigrants spark fury in Phoenix

sheriff-200.jpg ”They just don’t want me enforcing the illegal immigration laws. They think they can intimidate me. They can’t,” said Arpaio, a Republican, who is running for re-election in November.

Notice-the article makes it CLEAR that Sheriff Joe is a Republican, yet somehow the writers/editors omit that Phil Gordon and Mary Rose Wilcox are democrats. Tsk! Tsk!

Jake

The article was primarily about Arpaio, not Gordon and Wilcox. Having said that, I do agree it would have been better to include their party affiliation so readers could put the dispute into a political context: GBU Editor
