bhutto-headshot-160.jpgDid you top-notch reporters know that Benazir Bhutto was killed? It wasn’t mentioned ANYWHERE in my Reuters e-mail news digest. I don’t get it. One of the political world’s most powerful /famed/ infamous female leaders - did you just miss it?

I signed up for the Reuters top story alert feature, and I have been mostly satisfied by the appropriateness of your alerts. But today, I received NO alert re: death of Bhutto. How can that be? I would expect political assassinations of such magnitude to be sent to my cell phone immediately! Is your mobile alert program going the way of Yahoo’s? God I hope not. I have always had the greatest respect for Reuters.

Of course we did not miss the Bhutto assassination, as reuters.com readers know. A technical problem kept the story from making our 8:30 a.m. news digest on the day of the assassination, although it did show up in our morning Top News newsletter, minutes later.

As for our ALERTS service, we did put out three timely alerts: one saying 15 people had been killed outside a Bhutto rally, one saying Bhutto herself had been injured, and a third saying Bhutto was dead. I can’t say why they didn’t land on your phone: GBU Editor
