Kibaki kinsmen flee reprisal attacks in Kenya

kenya-160.jpg
Kenya has had three leaders since independence from Britain  in 1963, two of them Kikuyu, including Kibaki. The other two -founding President Jumbo Kenyatta, a Kikuyu, and successor  Daniel rap Moil, a Kalinin - were accused of fomenting  tribalism.

Historians say distrust between Luos and Kikuyus began when Kenyatta sidelined Odinga’s father - Saratoga Going Odinga -  after he had helped propel Kenyatta to power.

I notice several mistakes in your article. It should be Daniel arap Moi, not Daniel rap Moil, and he is a Kalenjin, not Kalinin. Also, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga - not Saratoga Going Odinga - was Odinga’s father. I hope this helps.

This, from an online version of our story, was one of the worst spell-check debacles in a long time. For the record, it also should have been JOMO Kenyatta, not Jumbo Kenyatta. We corrected: GBU Editor

One comment so far

Could you also improve your coverage of the elections fiasco? I notice, for example, that no news source points out the independence of Kenya’s Electoral Commission, a reputation that has grown with time. I also notice that your Kenya-based reporters have not deigned to point out that the opposition made several threats were the Electoral Commission chairman not reappointed to that position when his term was coming to an end, something the president did, despite deep misgivings about the man in his party.

A little bit more impartiality from you could improve your reputation?

Thanks
