British Moon probe wins UK-NASA backing
LONDON (Reuters) - A plan for the first British-led mission to the Moon won the backing of an Anglo-American space committee on Friday
Potential targets for the MoonLITE probes include the Moon’s permanently dark far side and its two shadowed polar regions.
The far side of the moon is, of course, not permanently dark, it’s just facing away from us. When the side that’s facing us is dark, the far side is in full sun. It goes from light to dark to light again every 28 days.

It is unfortunate that in the story of Yellowknife’s aurora tourism industry the autor, Cameron French, perpetuates the myth that it must be cold to see the northern lights, that the cold has something to do with them. In fact there is no direct relation at all.
- Posted by Dennis AndersonThree things are needed to see the lights. Solar activity, such as solar flares or coronal holes, darkness, and clear skies.
Although it can be cold in the winter when it is clear, this is certainly not a prerequisite.
Please put this in the right place or forward it to the right person. I couldn’t find a way to respond to your article, “FACTBOX: Significant events in black American history”
- Posted by Winn WellmanYou state that in “1863 - President Lincoln issues the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring all slaves in Confederate states free.” That could not be further from the truth. The Emancipation Proclamation freed NOT ONE SINGLE SLAVE! A reading of the document will show that slaves in some parts of some of the confederate states and all slaves in others, would be free in 100 days UNLESS the states chose to rejoin the union. Exactly 0 slaves were freed by that document.
