Muslims more numerous than Catholics: Vatican
VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Islam has overtaken Roman Catholicism as the biggest single religious denomination in the world, the Vatican said on Sunday.
Your article stating that Muslims is the largest denomination is intrinsically flawed. “Muslims” is not a denomination. There are as many denominations within the term “Muslim” as there are within the term “Christian.” “Catholic” is only a subset of “Christian.” Christians still outnumber Muslims by a wide margin.

This is a bit misleading. Catholics don’t account for all Christians, but “Muslims” includes everyone of that faith. It’s a bit of Apples to Oranges for making any kind of real point.

Islam is not a denomination, but a religion. Sunni and Shiite are denominations of Islam. I believe this is extremely important to fix, especially seeing as how one of the major complaints from Islam against the West is our inability to distinguish these two very different groups.

We got quite a few e-mails about this one, and the readers were right. We corrected the reference to denominations, which left us comparing apples with oranges, raising the question of whether we should have done the story at all: GBU Editor
