Michelle Larkin of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation said about one in four Americans, or 76 million people, get sick from foodborne illnesses each year, more than 300,000 are hospitalized and 500,000 die.

You say, “Fermented apple juice can be used to make cider, an alcoholic drink.”

Cider is not normally alcoholic, it’s just unfiltered, unpasteurized apple juice. If you age it at the right temperature, naturally-present yeast turns it into “hard cider”, which is alcoholic. “Apple juice” by convention refers to filtered, pasteurized juice of the apple.
