Burger and a statin to go?
What’s up with your “comment cutoff”?
Regarding this story, I posted a message on Sat 8/14/2010 around 10:34 AM. As of Sunday. August 15, 2010 at 3:08, and after only 9 comments (presumably, mine would have been right around the 9th), this notice was posted;
“THIS DISCUSSION IS NOW CLOSED. WE WELCOME COMMENTS ON OUR ARTICLES FOR A LIMITED PERIOD AFTER THEIR PUBLICATION.
You close the discussion after nine comments?
W.F.
We don’t close comments after a certain number has been reached, but rather, after a fair amount of time has elapsed.
The problem is, we have been somewhat inconsistent in choosing that time limit.
We have now decided to keep approving comments for one week after a story is posted, which considering the nature of breaking news should be plenty of time for people to have their say: GBU Editor

Except this one: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE67 P17420100826
Comments were closed after one day, and more than half of them were removed.
Yes. Many comments on that story were horrific, and an editor made the decision to close them.
We reserve the right to do that when readers abuse the comments system.
Reuters never accepts my comments although they will probably post this one as I am not saying anything beneficial.
