Buxom actress Jane Russell dead at 89

PEOPLE-JANERUSSELL/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” movie star Jane Russell, who became a controversial Hollywood sex symbol, died on Monday at the age of 89, her family said.

I was very disturbed at the title “Buxom actress Jane Russell dead at 89″ for your news article about her death today.

She was a human being. I never met her, but she – and her family – should have been shown more respect.

“Buxom” was inappropriate when someone has died. Thank you for considering my opinion.

While that aspect certainly helped define her image when she was making movies 50 years ago, I agree “buxom” wasn’t the best detail for a headline about an 89-year-old woman who has died.

Here is a sampling of what some other news organizations did with their headlines on the story:

From what I have read about her, she had a great sense of humor and probably would be laughing at the coverage.

She was buxom, and she is dead. I’d rather see Reuters tell the unvarnished truth than tell a socially palatable version for the mentally feeble.
