Comedian Charlie Callas dies at 83

gbu callas 220LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Charlie Callas, a rubber-faced stand-up comedian and Mel Brooks regular who worked on television, in films and on stage for five decades, died Thursday in a Las Vegas hospice. He was 86.

Reading both the AP and your article concerning the death of Charlie Callas via Yahoo! News I noted that your story had him at 86 and AP said 83.

Only one of you can be right, unless that rascal Dr. Emmett Brown and his DeLorean showed up.

Since neither story gave a birth year one has to go digging around for the answer, something that is anathema when reading a major press organization’s story.

Geoffrey Rush against re-editing “King’s Speech”

USA/Rush also voiced his frustration over critics who say “The King’s Speech’ distorts history by omitting details, such as Edward VII’s (Guy Pearce) Nazi sympathies and Winston Churchill’s (Timothy Spall) support of Edward VII during his embarrassing abdication of the throne to his brother.

The article wrongly attributes actor Guy Pearce to playing Edward VII. He is in fact playing Edward VIII. King Edward VII was Queen Victoria’s son.

WikiLeaks founder Assange slams Swiss banker arrest

WIKILEAKS-SWISS/He said Switzerland was not the only country involved in the offshore banking structures that were depriving tax authorities worldwide of some $22 billion.

In German, a “billion” is what is typically called a “trillion” in English.

USA/She weighed about 100 pounds (45 kg) when she wore that iconic metallic gold bikini and slayed Jabba the Hutt, the massive, slug-like alien in “Return of the Jedi.”

“I’ve jumped out of a plane. I’ve walked over coals, repelled down a mountain. And I’m afraid of scales,” Fisher said.

Analysis: States look to save with lockdowns, private prisons

ECONOMY-CALIFORNIA/BUDGET“Release is not the only option there in California. There is capacity elsewhere,” said James F. Blumstein, director of the Health Policy Center at Vanderbilt University, who has researched private prisons.

They may also get an additional boost if California’s leaders lower prison spending from the level proposed by Governor Jerry Brown in his state budget plan.

I didn’t know that 2010 is in the future and that there will be a US presidential election then.

The headline with the wrong year was up for several hours before we fixed it.

Hillary wants a break, but maybe just a little one

USA-CHINA/ABC’s Good Morning America asked how’s she’s doing on The Grandmother Front. She prefaced her reply with peels of laughter: “I will only get in trouble, however I respond to that. But let me just say I love babies, and so maybe I’ll have more in my life some day.”

Not a question, but an edit. Your article online today about Hillary Clinton possibly taking a break and prospects of becoming a grandmother, notes that she replied with ‘peels of laughter.’

Pope: Governments must protect minority Christians

IRAQ/He made reference to last week’s murder of Salman Taseer, the Muslim governor of Punjab province and an outspoken liberal, who was gunned down for opposing the law, which imposes a death sentence for those who insult the Prophet Mohammad.

I’ve just noticed recently that Reuters is following in the footsteps of AP and AFP in designating the Islamic prophet Mohammad as “The Prophet Mohammad”.
