It isn’t the Arabian Gulf

Europe Gasoline/Naphtha-Margins slip as crude bounces

LONDON, June 22 (Reuters) – Gasoline refining margins slipped as Brent bounced on Wednesday, although a drop in gasoline inventories in the U.S. supported the market and outright prices in the region were higher.

“There’s no interest from the U.S. but the Mediterranean is busy,” said a gasoline broker, adding that refinery shutdowns in the Arabian Gulf and issues in Israel had boosted activity.

In this article Reuters has used the wrong and racist name of “Arabian Gulf” instead of the real name of the gulf which apparently is Persian Gulf.

Persian people all over the world are very concerned about that racist and fake name. Please correct that report/article as soon as possible to prevent making Persian people more upset.

L.Z.

I wondered when I read the named article using a fake word namely Arabian Gulf. Based on geographical and historical information there exists no such name hence, I assume author meant Persian Gulf.

COMMENT

I totally disagree about how the Iranians dealing with the gulf naming issue. Racism and Extremism will never help. The population of the 6 Arab countries which sharing the same body of water could do the same, but they prefer to handle in peace or sometime ignore what Iranians attempting. I’m from UAE and my ancestor lived on this body of water dependably, we never ever used the terms of “Persian Gulf” neither in schools nor in media and we don’t accept this name to be official in our countries at least. Everyone knows that it is 100% Arabian gulf. Even history which the Iranians want the world to refer will not support them in all the time. If you concern on history you will this coast was never being Persian. No Persian cities build till 1920s, no ports, no navigations. The whole gulf is pure Arabian, Arabs dominate that cost and the islands since 1500 and during the British occupation all the area given to Iran.

Thousands in Portland take to bikes for naked ride

PORTLAND, Ore (Reuters) – It was a typical early summer evening in Portland: cloudy skies threatening rain, temperatures in the mid-60s, and thousands of naked bicyclists gathered near the city’s waterfront for a clothing-free night ride.

World Naked Bike Ride is a globally observed event among hard-core bikers designed, at least ostensibly, to promote the use of the bicycle for transportation.

I submit that the terms “biker” and “cyclist” are not interchangeable. I’ve attached a pic to assist in alleviating any confusion

Thanks for your comment. I understand the distinction you are making, but I’m not sure what can be done about it.

Obama’s father…

Obama says still wonders about his absent father

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Barack Obama, whose Kenyan father left his family when the future U.S. president was 2 years old, said Saturday he still thinks about how things would have worked out had his dad been there.

“I felt his absence. And I wonder what my life would have been like had he been a greater presence,” Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address a day before Father’s Day in the United States.

The statement that his “Kenyan father left his family when the future U.S. president was 2 years old,” is factually incorrect.

In fact the father left Hawaii when Obama was still not a year old, while the infant Obama and his mother were still in Seattle, Washington.

A correction should be issued.

Black hole shreds star, sparking gamma ray flash What makes this even stranger is that the black hole, located in the constellation Draco (The Dragon) about 4 billion light years, or 24 trillion miles (38.62 trillion km) from Earth, was sitting quietly, not eating much, when a star about the mass of our Sun moved into range.

This story contains a very large order of magnitude error.

Four billion light years is certainly not 24 trillion miles but 24 zettamiles, or 23 followed by 21 zeros. If the reporting were correct, then a light year would equal only about 6000 miles! Conversely, twenty-four trillion miles is not 4 billion light years, but 4 light years (the closest black hole to Earth is 1600 light years away).

Numbers like these make my head hurt, but a surprising number of sharp-eyed readers caught our mistake. We corrected it: GBU Editor

He’s still not a Republican

Photo

Today, Reuters released a report concerning Anthony Weiner and his resignation. Today’s headline reads “Amid scandal, US Republican Weiner steps down”.

Reuters writers should be very aware that former Rep. Weiner is not a Republican and is in fact a Democrat.

This glaring error could be chalked up as a reporter who did not research the topic of their report or was rushing to get a story out. Today’s headline can not be explained away that simply since this is the second time, in less than a month, former Rep. Weiner has been identified as a Republican in a Reuters headline.

Proving the same incorrect headline twice can no longer be considered a lazy error by a journalist and moves into the realm of an overt attempt to sway public opinion at best. At worst, this is an overt attempt to tarnish the reputation of the Republican Party.

Regardless of how this headline was able to go out, it is inexcusable.

Pope’s Berlin mass moved to Nazi Olympic site

BERLIN (Reuters) – Pope Benedict’s mass in his homeland has been moved due to high demand, the Berlin archdiocese said on Wednesday, and will now take place in Berlin’s Nazi-built Olympic Stadium.

I was really disappointed when I was reading this article.

What is the sense or the ulterior motive of the first part? That it will be a nazi-like event with red flags and torches and so on?

Next news on Reuters: The pope will use a nazi-built airport in Berlin!? And was it wrong, when I was driving on a nazi-bulit highway last time when i was in Germany?

Sadly Leni Riefenstahl is dead, that would have been a great documentary about the pope’s visit.

Bachmann files papers to enter US White House race

MANCHESTER, N.H., June 13 (Reuters) – U.S. Representative Michelle Bachmann said on Monday she has filed the paperwork to formally enter the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

You guys misspelled Michele Bachmann’s first name in this story, and in some photo captions I saw, too. It’s Michele, not Michelle!

Bangladesh says FIFA refuses to move Pakistan game

DHAKA (Reuters) – FIFA has turned down a proposal from Bangladesh to relocate their World Cup 2014 qualifier from violence-hit Pakistan to Dhaka, the country’s football federation president said on Monday.

Bangladesh has not sent any sports team to neighbouring Pakistan since an attack by gunmen on the Sri Lanka cricket team in Lahore in 2009.

The article states that Bangladesh and Pakistan are neighbours. This is not true. They do not share a common border.

Shehzaad

No, not even close. They’re about 1,000 miles apart, so it’s like saying Boston and Chicago are neighbors. The writer meant the two countries were in the same region, but that wasn’t made clear: GBU Editor

U.S. Open course at Congressional hole by hole

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The U.S. Open will return to Washington’s Congressional Country Club for a third time when this year’s edition takes place from June 16-19.

Washington’s Congressional Country Club?

You need a geography lesson. Congressional is not in Washington, DC. It’s in Bethesda, Maryland.

Your writers should know that.
