A-Power wins second deal in two days, shares jump

* Wins $2.9 mln deal to build power plants in China

* Shares up 12 pct

Sept 30 (Reuters) – China’s A-Power Energy Generation Systems Ltd on Thursday won a contract worth RMB 242 million ($2.9 million) to build power plants, its second such contract in as many days, sending its shares up 12 percent.

You have a decimal point error in the APWR story. It should be 29 million, not 2.9 million. How about a retraction/update?

We did a very bad conversion. We corrected the story to change $2.9 million to $36 million: GBU Editor

Airline agreement…

DEALTALK-Rival mergers put new pressure on American Airlines

JetBlue Airways and Alaska Airlines also could be good fits for American Airlines and might be on its M&A radar, analysts and bankers have said.

American entered a code-share agreement with JetBlue this year allowing passengers to connect with one ticket to American’s international flights from New York and Boston.

I am a pilot with AA and I would like to point out that the quote from this article is a misrepresentation of what the “partnership” is between Jet Blue and American Airlines.

They are not “code sharing”. Their relationship consists of an “interline agreement” and that is much different than what the article states. Please adjust the article with a correction.

”Mission Impossible 4” to be filmed in Dubai

DUBAI, Sept 28 (Reuters Life!) – The fourth sequel of action blockbuster “Mission Impossible” starring Oscar-winning actor Tom Cruise will be partly filmed in Dubai, the Gulf Arab emirate’s media office said on Tuesday.

Hello, I just wanted someone to know that there is a mistake in this story regarding Tom Cruise.

It states at the beginning that he is Oscar-winning Actor Tom Cruise. I just wanted to say that Mr. Cruise has never won an Oscar as of yet.

I love reading your Website.

Mario M.

We corrected this. Such errors are always noticed by readers and are embarrassing, since it isn’t very hard to check whether someone really has won an Oscar. GBU Editor

COMMENT

So why is this a story anyway? My neighbourhood in London is a lot smaller than Dubai in population and area and lots of movies are “partly filmed” here.

It isn’t hydrogen…

Argentina sells DNA as world demands more beef

Once the semen has passed quality checks, it is diluted to make up to 300 doses that are kept in liquid hydrogen and sold for around $10 each. Garcia said the price can be much higher if the animal has a good breeding record.

“300 doses that are kept in liquid hydrogen.” WRONG!

Biological samples are kept in cryogenic storage in liquid nitrogen, not liquid hydrogen.

No sideburns here…

Photo

Florida pastor not backing down on Koran-burning

“We are not convinced that backing down is the right thing,” Jones, a gray-haired, mustachioed preacher with mutton-chop sideburns and author of a book titled “Islam is of the Devil,” told a crowd of reporters in a brief statement made in the grassy yard in front of his stone-and-metal church.

I read this article on the New York Times site. It describes Terry Jones as “a gray-haired, mustachioed preacher with mutton-chop sideburns.”

But according to Google Images and another article, I don’t think what he has could be described as mutton-chop sideburns. He seems to have no more than a handlebar mustache.

His facial hair might be a bit hard to classify because of the extra cheek coverage, but it’s definitely not muttonchops or sideburns.

John M.

Indeed. Initially, as seen from head-on in his public appearances, it appeared that the pastor had mutton-chop sideburns.

Shameless mistake

You know there’s more than one Cusack, right? You have a story about Joan Cusack, but you illustrated it with a photo of JOHN Cusack.

Amazed

Yes. We replaced his photo with that of the correct Cusack: GBU Editor

A Very Brady error?

Photo

Bristol Palin, Hasselhoff join “Dancing With the Stars”

Fans of the TV family sitcom “The Brady Brunch” will be able to watch actress and TV talk show host Florence Anderson, 76, who played Carol Brady in the popular 1970s show.

I was reading your story on Yahoo news about this season’s people on “Dancing with the Stars” when I came to the actress who portrayed Carol Brady on the Brady Bunch.

Your story referred to her as Florence Anderson. I believe her name was Henderson not Anderson.

I was shocked because I put so much faith in the correctness of Reuters. This is the first error I have ever found on a story put out by Reuters. Thanks for the shock and I’m sure it will never happen again.

COMMENT

Your story ‘FBI urges U.S. Mohammed cartoonist to go into hiding’ (found here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100917/us_n m/us_usa_cartoonist#mwpphu-container ) ends with the statement, “U.S. cartoon TV series South Park stirred up controversy and more threats earlier this year with its depiction of Mohammed in a bear suit.”

This statement is inaccurate. It was Santa Claus that turned out to be in a bear suit, not Muhammed.

Considering that (in the bizarre world we live in) cartoonists are now being driven underground by death threats over the content of their cartoons, this error well might be considered non-trivial.

The wrong COO?

Photo

CORRECTED – Baird continues sweep of Morgan Stanley talent

(In 6th paragraph, corrects to show that Kovics came from Prudential, not Morgan Stanley)

NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) – Baird Private Wealth Management said on Tuesday it hired eight advisers and a branch manager from Morgan Stanley Smith Barney to establish new offices in Charleston, South Carolina, and Fort Worth, Texas.

Denise Wypiszenski, Baird Private Wealth’s chief operating officer, spent 15 years at Smith Barney before moving to Baird in November 2009.

Your August 24 story about Baird hiring more Morgan Stanley noted that Denise Wypiszenski is Baird’s COO. She is no longer with the firm.

Horror filmmaker Eli Roth talks exorcisms in new movie

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Since coming on to the horror film scene fifteen years ago with “Cabin Fever,” filmmaker Eli Roth made a name for himself in the genre with the “Hostel” franchise. An occasional actor, he got a chance to shine last year as the infamous “The Bear Jew” in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds.”

In the article “Horror filmmaker Eli Roth talks exorcisms in new movie” it states in the first line that Eli Roth came onto the scene fifteen years ago with “Cabin Fever.”

“Cabin Fever” was released in 2002.

Getting pasta spell-check problem

Glaxo starts final clinical trial of shingles vaccine

LONDON, Aug 23 (Reuters) – British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline said on Monday it had started final trials of its new vaccine to prevent shingles, one of the most significant products in its pipeline.

Herpes Zoster, commonly known as shingles, is caused by the vermicelli-zoster virus and results in painful rash on one side of the body.

You called the virus vermicelli-zoster. Vermicelli is a pasta, of course. The correct term is verricella-zoster. I used to sell a pharmaceutical for it myself. Pretty funny.

Nannette

Not so funny to us.

Actually I think the correct term is varicella-zoster. Another tragic spell-check error. We corrected: GBU Editor
