LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Actress Vanessa Williams will trade her scheming ways on TV comedy “Ugly Betty” for a role on a show where just about everyone seems to be plotting something: “Desperate Housewives.”
On the strength of her singing talents, Williams staged a comeback with her 1988 debut album “The Right Stuff.” After that, she scored hits with such songs as “Save the Best for Last” and won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Grammy for her song “Colors of the Wind” from the 1995 movie “Pocahontas.”
She DID NOT win an Academy Award for Colors of Wind. The singers of songs DO NOT get the award….only the the artist(s) that write the music and lyrics, which Ms. Williams (for all of her many talents) DID NOT do…
Heavy metal veteran Ronnie James Dio dies, aged 67
LOS ANGELES, May 16 (Reuters) – Ronnie James Dio, the pint-sized heavy metal singer who replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath, died on Sunday, five months after being diagnosed with stomach cancer, his wife said. He was 67.
He moved over to Black Sabbath, the leading exponents of heavy metal, after Osbourne was ousted in 1979. He recorded three albums with the band before quitting. He reportedly complained there were not enough photos of him in the artwork for the group’s 1982 concert album “Live Evil,” and guitarist Tony Iommi referred to him as a “little Hitler.”
Niecy Nash no longer “Dancing with the Stars”
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Niecy Nash was eliminated from ABC’s ballroom competition show “Dancing with the Stars” on Tuesday after receiving the lowest scores from the judges and failing to rally viewers to her side.
Nash, the bubbly host of reality show “How Clean is Your House” and an actress on “Reno 911!,” was joined in the bottom two by NFL footballer Chad Ochocinco after a grueling week in which the routines were upped to two apiece.
That’s a picture of VANESSA you morons!!!
Hey brainiacs…you posted a picture of Vanessa Redgrave.
Isn’t Lynn the one who passed away? Who’s your checker????
Why are you showing a picture of Vanessa with Lynn’s obituary?
You have a picture of Vanessa Redgrave over the obituary of her sister Lynn. How horrible.
We did it and of course lots of readers noticed. There isn’t much I can say to defend it: GBU Editor
OUCH! Oscar-winner Cotillard stuck with award pin
Cotillard has spent much of her time in Hollywood since winning the Oscar for her performance as the singer Edith Piaf in “La vie en rose” in 2008 but she was back in Paris to receive the decoration from Culture Minister Francois Mitterrand.
The French culture minister is Frédéric Mitterrand, not François (the former, deceased President).
“Avatar” loses box office crown to “Dear John”
Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried star as lovers whose romance is curtailed by the September 11 attacks. It was directed by Swedish filmmaker Lasse Hallstrom and based on “The Notebook,” a novel by Nicholas Sparks.
Your article states that the movie Dear John is based on the novel The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. This is not correct. It is based on the novel Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. Just thought you should know.
After Pee-wee Herman disappeared in 1991, Reubens remained in Hollywood and has appeared in various TV shows including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “30 Rock” but his alter-ego remained out of sight, bar one or two appearances.
Correction: Though actor Paul Reubens did play minor roles in many television series, he did NOT play any role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the t.v. show. He did play a role in the 1992 movie, however.
Backstage at the Golden Globes
I could have well done without the gratuitous surprise spoiler for the end of Dexter season four!
Not all of us can afford Showtime, and have to wait for it on Netflix.
We try to keep spoilers out of our entertainment content.
However, I would defend this Hollywood Reporter story that ran on our wires. Spoilers are only spoilers for a few hours, maybe a few days. That episode of Dexter aired more than a month ago, and with no DVD release date in sight yet, it’s going to take quite a lot of effort to retain the surprise until fans can get it from Netflix.
Boyle, 48, a frumpy Scottish singer who became an international YouTube phenomenon after appearing on TV show “Britain’s Got Talent”, also topped the British album charts earlier this week.
I, along with a lot of people, are sick and tired of the words used to describe Susan Boyle ie. frumpy.
FX nabs rights to air “Twilight” saga
Just wanted to let you know that your article “FX nabs rights to air “Twilight” saga”, has a typo.
