Florida pastor not backing down on Koran-burning

USA-MUSLIMS/“We are not convinced that backing down is the right thing,” Jones, a gray-haired, mustachioed preacher with mutton-chop sideburns and author of a book titled “Islam is of the Devil,” told a crowd of reporters in a brief statement made in the grassy yard in front of his stone-and-metal church.

I read this article on the New York Times site. It describes Terry Jones as “a gray-haired, mustachioed preacher with mutton-chop sideburns.”

But according to Google Images and another article, I don’t think what he has could be described as mutton-chop sideburns. He seems to have no more than a handlebar mustache.

His facial hair might be a bit hard to classify because of the extra cheek coverage, but it’s definitely not muttonchops or sideburns.

PAKISTAN/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama warned on Thursday that a Florida pastor’s plan to burn copies of the Koran is being used as an al Qaeda recruitment tool and he urged the minister to reconsider the decision.

Please Use the Correct Spellings Of Muslims Holy Book , Use “QURAN” Not Koran. It Would Be Very Appreciative If This Correction has been made in all your digital and print versions.

Abbas, Palestinians should die: Israeli rabbi

rabbi 280JERUSALEM (Reuters) – An influential Israeli rabbi has said God should strike the Palestinians and their leader with a plague, calling for their death in a fiery sermon before Middle East peace talks set to begin next week.

“Abu Mazen and all these evil people should perish from this earth,” Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, spiritual head of the religious Shas party in Israel’s government, said in a sermon late on Saturday, using Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s popular name.

Jakarta introduces women-only trains to avoid groping

INDONESIA/JAKARTA (Reuters Life!) – Women-only train carriages were launched this week in Jakarta in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, in an attempt to avert groping and sexual harassment on packed commuter trains.

Your editors are showing their anti-Islamic bias again.

The first paragraph gratuitously labels Indonesia “the world’s most populous Muslim nation.” This is irrelevant to the story, unless you wanted to deliberately link “Muslims” with “groping”. Why else would you include those words?

Last rites?

Zsa Zsa Gabor asks for last rites

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 15 (Reuters Life!) – Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, a fixture in Hollywood for six decades, asked that a priest read her the last rites on Sunday, following hospitalization two days earlier due to complications from hip surgery.

PEOPLE-GABOR/You are a little out of date – there is no longer a sacrament of the ‘last rites.’

Backing the mosque?

Obama backs controversial New York mosque project USA-NEWYORK/MOSQUEWASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama on Friday backed construction of a proposed mosque and Muslim cultural center near the site of the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York — a project opposed by conservatives and many New Yorkers.

“As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country,” Obama said to applause at an event attended by diplomats from Islamic countries and members of the U.S. Muslim community.

It is flat-out dishonest to have a title that says “Obama backs controversial New York mosque project” but it is drawn directly from the dishonest story itself.

Visitors banned from Kashmir’s “Jesus” shrine

INDIA-JESUS/SHRINEThe idea that Jesus survived crucifixion and visited Kashmir was first raised in the 1973 book “Christ in Kashmir,” by local journalist Aziz Kashmiri. Several other books followed it.

First raised in a 1973 book? Mirza Ghulam Ahmad wrote about how Jesus survived crucifixion, migrated to Kashmir, died and was buried at the Shrine at Rozabal, in his book “Jesus in India” in 1896.

Not the Virgin Mary?

Petraeus calls gunscope inscriptions ‘disturbing’

IRAQ ”This is a big concern to the Army and the Marine Corps, who have contracted for these particular sites,” said Petraeus, the head of U.S. Central Command, noting the religious sensitivities American forces face in the two Muslim countries.

There is no such thing as a “site” on a rifle. To the uninformed journalist, the homophones “site” and “sight” are the same. To an intelligent person, a “sight” is a device on a rifle that is used for aiming purposes.

Hundreds of cars torched in France at New Year

FRANCE/PARIS (Reuters) – Youths burned 1,137 cars across France overnight as New Year’s Eve celebrations once again turned violent, the French Interior Ministry said on Friday.

Car burnings are regular occurrences in poor suburbs that ring France’s big cities, but the arson is especially prevalent during New Year’s Eve revelry.
