Violence achieve nothing but lost of lives and more anger. It was indeed a privilege meeting him in the Philippines way back and now I sit back and think if all the work and life we give in the profession we chose are all worth it. I hope the stories that we make can be enough to change the world to what it should be.

Hiro’s warmth always made working with him such a pleasure. I wish I had had the privilege more often.

I am also fortunate to have benefited from Hiro’s mentoring skills, when I began working as a TV reporter for Reuters in Tokyo without a shred of experience. Hiro and the other cameramen in the newsroom were always willing to help a nervous foreign woman confront politicians, officials and businessmen, even though it wasn’t their job to be teachers. I was so sad to hear of this tragedy, and will never forget what I learned from Hiro.
