Is this the end of the road for Advani?

May 17, 2009

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Krishna Advani’s prime ministerial ambitions were crushed when the ruling Congress-led coalition defied predictions to sweep the 2009 general election.

LAL KRISHNA ADVANIPrime Minister Manmohan Singh’s coalition was only about 11 seats short of an outright majority from the 543 seats at stake, according to election commission data.

The Times of India described Advani as the “Ivan Lendl of Indian politics”, comparing his inability to grab the top job to the tennis player’s failure to win a career Wimbledon title.

Variously described as a hardliner, a hawk and a wily politician, the 81-year-old Advani is a leading advocate of his party’s trademark Hindu revivalism. But critics said his age may not have played well with young voters.

Does the BJP’s electoral defeat signify the end of Advani’s political career?

First of all I want to congratualte Dr Manmohan Singhji for winning this mammoth election and I sincerely hope that our country will be stronger in terms of growth , prosperity and safety of all citizens .
Hoever,Advaniji does not need a PM’s port folio to be popular as he is very knowledgeable and great politician.Even if his party has not done well ,he still is Shri Lal Krishna Advani. So what he can not become PM at this time his followers can try that again later in 2014.
He can, in fact support the government in achieving great success by supporting good work by Congress party and be a critique for any mismanagemrnt of the country affairs .As we always need strong opposition party, otherwise any party, whosoever in the power can take advantage by putting People and Nation at stake.I also think that BJP should look into their speach and actions which has lead them to this situation. In any competition one gains and other looses cause some one is better prepard.
We all need to watch the threats facing our country and also learn from our past mistakes so our country is more safe, prosperous, and role model for the entire world for practicing secularism and universal brotherhood.

First of all I would like to congratulate the Congress Party and Dr MM Singh for a stupenduous victory against all odds.

Coming to Mr Advaniji, his past (Babri) is still haunting him politically. Also in my humble opinion Mr Advaniji is too old to represent a country as PM and it looks like he was on a personal agenda of ruling the country aleast for a day, else he would not have been running the race for the PM instead he would have been running for victory of his party/ alliance.

I do not think there is a leader of Dr MM Singh or Rahul Gandhi or even one like Late Mr Pramod Mahajan in BJP today who have charisma to galvanise the voting public across the country. Even Mr Modi has lost ground in Gujarat leading to speculation that nhis appeal is only in Gujarat.

Let the second rung of leaders in BJP like Mr MM Joshi and Mrs Sushma Swaraj prove themselves that they are capable of inclusive politics before aspiring to win the 2014 elections. The new leadership needs to be clearly distancing itself from the hardline stance taken by Mr Advaniji or Mr Modi and make the minority community like the muslims or chritians to feel secure in the BJP ruled states.

Lastly, do not let the BJP nor its radical fringe allies/ ideologival groups to do the moral policing like they have started to do in Karnataka.

Yes Its not only end of road for Advani but also end of BJP era.But its not favour of India. At this time country need Prime minister like L.K. Advani.I have many point–
1)Large part of BJP vote bank comes from arban area or we can say from upper cast which want to see BJP in Centre but they only want they never go for cast their vote. They celebrate voting day as holiday not such voting day.
2)May Upper cast family are not living together. If a family have five member, only pld age parents are living in native thier all sons are daughter spread in different metro.
3)Third point BJP can not pass its point in rural area.In village nobady know slowdown.they know only basic things.

If Advani ji left the political, it is not favour of India. because he has lots of knowledge and experience. I think he should be think again about decesion.

No way! The way he is currently going, age is merely a statistics for Advani. He was, is and will remain a statesman with little parallel in 15th Loksabha. He should remain in a patriarchal role for NDA and BJP and groom a Rahul like leader for BJP.

LKA is a great leader/statesman; he should continue to
lead BJP as LOP as well as even run as PM candidate in
next election. Do you think two mean people of BJP i.e
Atal+ MMJoshi are against LKA?

Is this the end of the road for Advani?

I do not know, but let me put this way.

‘Is Mr. Advani, his knowledge and experience are of any importance in the current march of progress of a our great country in the current situation and changes of near and far future of India and the world?
The country comes first and then the party or a person. I believe, now, we need leader/leaders who can make real change, who gives proper direction and push at the current juncture on the march of India’s prosperity. Mr. Advani had his mission (what?) and we saw what his contibutions are. May be that, one can count his personal achievements making a big list, but if we evaluate any point in that list on a broader context of ‘Nation’s Progress’, probably, the list will shrink to zero.
Let us respect his past, but let us think of Country’s future too. Can he be instrumental to give proper direction and deliver deisive actions needed in the current multi-directional progress of our country?
A person has to give a flag in other hands, if he thinks he can not carry it further.

Long live Advaniji, and may God bless you.

India needs a tough man like LK Advani. I agree with one of the bloggers here who said the urban voters would have preferred BJP rather than congress. And yet, like the blogger said many urban voters would have retired for a holiday than go for a vote. There is an old story that a snake whether it may actually bite or not should atleast do the hissing, to frighten the enemies or the harmful entities. It that is not done it will succumb to the enemy right away and that is what is happening to India. I have not seen any strong signals on the event of 26/11 attacks except pleading the international community to intervene.BJP is more aggressive and Advani is more so.On the otherhand,if you cant do your bit,Nobody else cares to.Congress govt is busy appeasing the minorities at the stake of country’s well being.Although I have a personal like to Manmohan Singh and respect him as a learned person, he actually has no strong say in the govt. Universal truth is that he is puppet of Sonia. Then what’s good to have him. I really feel sorry for India and myself as well. God only knows how many more injuries should India taken on in the future.

Shri Advaniji is highly knowledgable and experienced. He should be actively involved in transforming BJP into a national party. He should help groom new party leaders to build a more development oriented party. It is important for India as a nation to have a healthy competition at national level.

there is no doubt in that mr. advani is a great politician. the defeat can not end his capebilities. he is senior most leader for BJP. the opposition as well as party needs a stronger personality like him, and obviously BJP knows this fact. if he left the active politics the opposition can be weak.

Advani needs to step down and let the young blood take the country in the fullest potential

RATH YATRA CHARIOT .HE MADE HIS ELDER BROTHER BAJPAI JI
KING RAM OF GREAT BHARAT.HIS ROLE REMINDS OF LAXMAN OF

No way.The monolith character of lka will continue shine on Indian politics & he will play the role of “Bhisma Pitamaha”in parliament.

How long BJP can cheat using ram temple, setu canal etc.. Atleast people started to understand the divide and rule communal politics of BJP and its parivars. The day where BJP will not get even a single seat anywhere in India is not too long. Popular Front, like it kicked BJP away from Kerala and Tamilnadu will kick BJP out to sindh valley.

It is an end to the stingy politics started by a group of people calling themselves representative (s). This is time to think about future, future of our country, future for us and of our children. I think people of our country have made a right decision finally

BJP should reinvent itself.

New leaders like Varun Gandhi and other well educated young leaders should be inducted in the party.

The party should speak only about the Poor people in the country.. middle class and upper middle class never vote so why to care about them..

MOST IMPORTANTLY BJP SHOULD TRY ITS BEST TO RETAIN THEIR STATES LIKE GUJARAT, KARNATAKA, ETC.. AND TRY TO WIN MORE AND MORE STATE ELECTIONS, BY FIELDING GOOD CANDIDATES FOR CM POSITION..

STOP TALKING HINDUTVA, IF YOU TALK HINDUTVA THEN DO SOMETHING FOR HINDUS, LIKE A SPECIAL SUBSIDY FOR AMARNATH YATRA, ETC…

STOP THE HATE SPEECHES..

STOP FIGHTING BETWEEN YOURSELVES..

REPLACE RAJNATH SINGH WITH SOMEONE MORE DYNAMIC AND UNBIASED.

BEST WISHES to Shri LK Advani ji, what if he didn’t win the elections.. don’t forget BJP got 159 seats inspite of being ditched by its allies..

Shri Advani ji can guide his party to win several state elections and take BJP to new heights..

hello,

its good to have strong opposition with such a leader like shri. adwaniji.

in my openion BJP will rule the country, when they contest for all the 542 seats on their own , not with any coilation. deffinetly they will have simple majority or more in 2014

First, congratulatios to Dr. MM Singh. People of India have given their verdict so obviously!
Mr. Advani should retire from political life and BJP needs to find a young leader with vision to lead India. Mr. Advani, apart from his personal ambition to be PM, never had vision nor has done any significant contribution for the progress of India. We can not compete with world having focus on mandir or masjid. Industrial revolution is the only key to be a developed nation and Mr. Advani’s priorities were not in that direction. So he should step down.

I think that Advani’s aspiration to become PM came crashing down on May 16 last. He would definitely not be able to be projected as the party’s candidate for the top job. Some bloggers have argued that the urban India prefers BJP to the Congress but they do not bother to go out and cast their vote hence BJP’s poor performance. They conveniently forget that in the just-concluded general elections, the voting percentage in many of the post Delhi colonies has sky-rocketed. This certainly shows that the BJP problem lies somewhere else. The party has to introspect and realize that its hate-politics can not work. Indians would be unlucky if they vote to power a party who revere figures who abated the murderers of the Father of the Nations. Please give us a break.

Well, by the next Elections of 2014 Shri LK Advani would be 85+ in age which itself is a deterrent age desipite his awesome display of stamina in this elections. Therefore it would be rather difficult to even speculate that he could try for the post of PM in the next election.

However there are Stalwart Politicians like DMK’s Shri M. Karunanidhi,84 who are in active politics and play key role in Indian Politics today. ANd again the NDA has not been able to come up with anybody as the Leader of the Opposition.

I think with a Dr. Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister and Shri LK Advani as Leader of Opposition the Indian electorate can be assured that all the Bills and Legislations will have been thoroughly charted and tested from very experienced viewpoints. That’s good for the country.

Advani ji is a confused person. He was gone the day he told that Jinna was secular .Jinna’s ghost is inside the Advani. He was the first indian politician, who went to Jinna’s grave and offered flowers. He forgotten that because of Jinna we lost the land and he himself become homeless. How can any Indins will give a chance to this type of the person india’s top position . Do he think Indians are fool. He went and participated in Babri masque and after that he said he cries once he come to know that masque was demolished. A person who cries and regret of his own doing cant fit for the PM post. anil

Mr.Advani can never become P.M. He can be parlimentarian till his death. We need him in the opposition leader is a good decision

Mr Adavni’s decision to continue as Leader of Opposition is the last attempt to keep the outfit he was instrumental in creating afloat. He does not have a successor who can fill his shoes. Hence to avoid the sorry spectacle of a bunch of jokers fighting amongst themselves he had no option but to continue as L o O(no pun intended).

The divisive sectarian agenda followed by the BJP, in addition to their blatant disregard for the rule of law ( witness the shameful attacks on young girls in Karnataka), their opposing the Nuclear pact between India and the USA has cost them this election.

Their apologists can cry themselves hoarse but no one is impressed by a party that first abuses a police officer doing his job -the Late chief of Anti terrorist cell, Mumbai Police ( because one of the suspects in the investigation was a BJP sympathiser) and then when the gentleman passes away combating terrorists, they try to offer money to his family.

If anything people now have loathing and contempt for these people whose cynical disregard of the national interest has reached a nadir.

Advani ji is the right person for India.unfortunately bjp did not get more seats to form government.because of third front indian voters chosen UPA government.Advani ji is 81 years old person, according me age does not matters for politicians. He has to lead the NDA.In future days definitely He will become PM of India.

It is not possible for honourable advaniji to become prime minister in future because of the age factor. but, he can continue serving the nation as a leader of opposition and guide the ruling party to lead the nation in the path of development.

AS FAR AS PM POST IS CONCERNED, HE CAN NOT B A CANDIDATE EVEN IN FUTURE. BUT WHEN IT COMES TO BUILDING UPOF BJP ‘S VOTE BANK, POPULRITY , GUIDANCE TO THE 2ND RANK LEADERS, IMPROVING THE THINK TANK’S ABILITY, HIS EXPERIENCE , STATEMANSHIP , IS TO BE USED. IT IS A POLITICS, WE CAN NOT TAKE IT GRANTED THAT ONE CAN BE ELECTED WITHOUT ANY HURDLES. WE FAILED TO READ WHAT IS WRITTEN ON THE WALL . LET US APPRECIATE THE COMMON VOTER FOR HIS WISDOM. PUBLIC WANTS A STABLE GOVT. THEY HAVE GIVEN CHANCE AND TIME TO REGIONAL PARTIES WHICH ARE ONE MAN SHOWS OR ELSE FAMILY CONCERNS( QUITE UNFORTUNATE THING, FAMILY MEMBERS ARE CLAMING A S IF IT IS HERIDITARY RIGHT). ONE THING EVERY INDIAN CITIZEN WOULD APPRECIATE, THAT THE ERA OF LEFTIST PARTIES IS COMING TO END. THE QUITE UNFORTUNATE THING IS THEIR AGENDA IS “NOT TO ALLOW BJP TO FORM GOVERNMENT AT THE CENTRE” THIS TIME THEY ACHIEVED WITH A HEAVY PRICE OF REDUCING THEIR NUMBER TO 35 APPR., THAT IS A GOOD SIGN. THE TIME HAS COME , AND BJP HAS TO BUILD HIS OWN VOTE BANK EVEN IN SOUTH INDIA. THIS CAN BE ACHEIVED BY SHOWING GOOD PROGRESS IN STATES WHERE THEY ARE I N POWER. MY SINCERE ADVISE IS NOT TO ALLIGN WITH REGIONAL PARTIES WHO HAVE VERY NARROW IDEALOGY, EXAMPLE : TELUGU DESAM, TELANGANA RASTRA SAMITH, DMK ETC. KEEP NATIONAL INTEGRATION IN MIND. DON’T RESORT TO SHORT TERM GAINS WHICH WIL CERTAINLY BOOMRANG INSTEAD OF GIVING STABILITY . EXAMPLE IS SC STATUS FOR A PARTICULAR COMMUNITY IN RAJSTHAN.

In 2014 Shri LK Advani ji would be 86 years and if he becomes Prime minister of India during next elections, by the time he completes his term he would be 91 years… so I would think, this will be his last fight as prime ministerial candidate – being senior member of BJP, he would start mentoring NextGen for this 5 years and will retire, or may be lead NDA and not take PM post.

Advani is gone and for good. It is a relief that Advani did not get to the post of PM.

Advani used Hindus as platform to rise and then portrayed himself as champion of Hindus. A person who has insane thoughts like Jinnah was secular. He also put forth his daughter and adviser to portray that he was an extremely soft and sensitive person. He thought that people would buy his stupid statement that he was not aware of one of the ministers escorting terrorist to Kandahar.

He tried to portray himself as strong leader and ended up projecting his true image… A weak, irresponsible and hallucinating leader who does not know ground realty and what is going around.

It is good that his time is over. Had he become the PM, he would have even imposed Jazia on Hindus to please his idols Jinnah and Company, released all terrorists and feigned ignorance.

He is a man who can stoop to any level to grab power based on hindus vote bank and if that does not work, muslim vote bank.

Narendra Modi is also walking on is steps… Narendra Modi has also developed the tendency to forget that he has been getting elected due to vote of Hindus and he soon will be joining and sharing seat with Advani.

Advani – the man of virtues, wisdom & integrity was potrayed in poor light by most of the media persons & they seldom focussed on his organisational acumen which steered BJP from a niggardly 2 seats in 1984 to a stage in which it could aspire to form govt, in 96,98 & 99.
Advani’s thougths are a manisfestation of suave middle class indian though his rhetoric on Hinduism were misinterpreted by one & all even inside his party. He actually created history by propounding the thoughts on swarajya, Surajya , Hinduism , Rath Yatra whose reverbrations will be felt when we indian will arrive at cross roads with the way of governance, corruption & appeasement of minorities. People like Advani are born once in a lifetime who pledge to work for the welfare on the nation. Hope better sense will prevail over all intellects & commentators who have always villified him .

Advaniji’s autobiogaphy gives us a glimpse of his life and strugle as a ordinary pracharak and his rise in politics as statesmen. He has made his mark in Indian politics and has changed its course. He is the most deserving person to rule our nation, but destiny failed him. we as a nation has to satisfy with the single family centric rule, soft on terrorism, banking on powerty, infiltration and minority appeasement for its survival. We as a nation deserve a leader who is strong, nationalistic and who can take the nation to it greatest glory, delivering justice to everyone and appeasement to none. Hope Advaniji as a mentor can give the nation a great leader as his successor. It is one more beginning, not the end for Advaniji.
