Your favourite A.R.Rahman song?
“Slumdog Millionaire” composer A.R. Rahman won two Grammy awards on Sunday for the film’s soundtrack and theme song “Jai Ho”, adding to the Oscars he won last year.
But which is your favourite Rahman composition?
Is it ‘Jai Ho’, the memorable ‘Masakali’ from “Delhi 6″ or the haunting numbers from “Swades”, “Guru”, “Roja”, “Dil Se” or any of his other award-winning films?
Pick your favourite Rahman song and album from his work over the years.

This is a very difficult thing to choose but I would say ‘Jiya Jale’ from “Dil Se”. A close second would be ‘Shahenshah’ from “Jodhaa Akbar”
The best album would be “Dil Se” again.
Simply the best and the modest !
Though Slumdog millionaire brought him the oscars, there are so many soundtracks are favourites.
Starting with roja (thamizha.. thamizha…)
Bombay theme music, kannathil muthamittal (vellai pookal), duet(Anjali… Anjali) and many more….
It comes with the territory. For any artist, his best work need not necessarily win him any award. An award can only be a reflection of how good his work was against those of others in the fray. I think Rahman’s best years were in the early 90s – Roja, Pudhiya Mugam, Pudhu Vasantham… Heard Ravana takes him to another level.
his best be the combination with the great minds., especially maniratnam. my list: 1. dilse 2. bombay 3. roja 4. jeans 5. sangamam.
Dilli 6 and Rang De Basanti the best album.
Best Composition hmm this one is tough. I would rather say Roobaro from RDB
Rahman’s best composition to date (according to me) was “Yen Vettu Thottathil…” from the movie Gentleman in Tamizh.
Since then, it has been a steady decline and by now he is merely an overhyped music arranger.
It has to be the theme music for the movie Bombay. Mind blowing yaar…!!!!!!!!!!!!
For me his best composition remains his score for “Vande Matram”. It was bold, catchy, popular and innovative. Even though it may not carry far from India.
Chinna Chinna aase…
As the debate is titled your favorite ARR song, its hard to specify which one to tell. He has rendered on variety of genres with fabulous hits which won’t fade out with time. Starting from Roja to his latest Vinnai Thandi Varuvayaa there has been a lot into to the transformation of a musician into the “Mozart of Madras”.
Probably the best is yet to come as he always strives for one on all his compositions …..
“Jai Ho” is the worst music I have ever heard of A R Rahman. I think the best of AR is KadhalarDhinam’s Oh Mariya…. and Roja Roja…..
1) Kuchi kuchi rakma
2) Kehna Hi Kya
3) Dil Se (Title Track)
4) O Humdum Soniyo Re
5) Rehna Tu
Best Album of Isai Puyal
Roja, Thiruda Thiruda, Dilse, Rangeela, Minsara Kanavu
My fav ARR song would be Munbe Vaa from Jillennu Oru Kadhal.. unbelievably beautiful song….
i’m a french fan of A.R Rahman… I have not seen many indian films, but my favorite soundtracks of him are: 1.Dil Se (Chaiyya chaiyya!!), 2.Bombay (especially kehna hi kya)3.Lagaan (o mitwa), 4.Kannathil Muthamittal(oru deivam), 5.Kandukonden(kannamoochi yenada)…
Yeh jo des hai tera, roobaroo..
Vurike chilaka veichi vuntanu kada varaku……..
vah! RAHMAAN…………!
FOR ME HIS BEST COMPOSITION IS CHICKU PUKU FROM GENTLEMAN AND HUMMA HUMMA FROM THE MOVIE BOMBAY… IT’S REALLY MIND BLOWING AND AMAZING COMPOSITION
snehithane snehithane from movie alaipayuthe
uyire uyire from bombay
Dil se re
mukkaalaa mukaabala
The greatness of Rahman lies in understanding there are different kinds of people and sensitivities and making a best song for each of them.
