I appreciate the comments. I would like to say something about the question about whether or not organizations dismiss bad supervisors. I would argue that the best organizations do it with surprising frequency. P&G, GE, Google, are a few well-known examples -- perhaps it does not happen as often as it should, but there are plenty of places that don't tolerate persistently lousy bosses.

How about bad employees? Those who don't show up for work, spend all day surfing the net, chat on the their cell phones, waste time, work slow, provide poor service to customers, and then expect to be paid big bucks for doing just about nothing.

Those types of individuals are a dime a dozen in this day and age. They are far more focused on surfing the web and getting on facebook than doing any actual work.

Simply put, if you want the respect of your boss and want to move up in your company earn it. Don't do any of the above and you'll get ahead. Do the above and don't expect to be rewarded.

And why would overseers care what the serfs think of them? Does any organization dismiss supervisors for actually being bad at supervision? Why would they?

Bosses often are more passive aggressive than outright constructive in their advice
