"Affirmative action" should always have been based on income/need instead of race or ethnic background. This would leave out of course upper middle class white women (of whatever religious background), foreign-born and affluent Africans or Afro-Caribbeans (whose increasing presence under AA in elite U.S. universities now apparently ruffles the feathers of increasing numbers of African-Americans who believe AA should be restricted to "slave legacy" beneficiaries, as reported by the NY Times), and of course wealthy people of "Hispanic/Latino" background. But of course Ari Melber of The Nation, a journal that purportedly prides itself on its "progressive" credentials, is less interested in class issues than in stoking racial resentments.

And yet one more news story repeating the myth of Obama being African-American, which is to say black.

He is not. He is America's first biracial president. No more black than white. Actually, one might make the case for his being more white than black due to his being raised by his white grandparents in Hawaii, of all places.

This would make him culturally more white, I think.

Forget the halls of power. We are talking human rights here.

Are whites human? The Supreme Court will decide. For 50 years we have not been. "Post racial" means exactly anti-white male. Nothing more. Nothing less. Should gentiles and non-gentiles be lumped together in defining "power"? Perhaps the answer depends on whether you are gentile or not.

Finding some rich white gentiles is not an excuse to deny equal rights to the white poor and middle class. Whoever thought it did? It is wrong. It is evil.

Equality cannot be had by legislation. It cannot be forced at all. It can only become self evident in the minds of mankind, if it is indeed a truth to be found. The current view of what equality is has become very twisted. Equality of Liberty is what is to be sought after in law and legislation, not race, gender, etc. Any law favoring one race or gender, in fact, enslaves the other race or gender to it. There should never be a paper or form that ever asks a persons race or gender, including tax forms, employment applications, etc. The need for census or statistics is no excuse when that information will breed more racism within legislation.

The point is that the detour into forced integration and equal rights were a huge mistake.

Quite simply "two wrongs do not make a right".

The truth is that you CANNOT reasonably deny one person his right to equal treatment under the constitution to make up for another person who has allegedly been denied his civil rights, simply because he belongs so a racial or ethnic minority that has suffered at some point in the past.

This is a liberal progressive hit piece.

"The South had evolved into a solid Republican bloc after President Lyndon B. Johnson pushed through the Voting Rights Act"

The same one Robert Byrd and Al Gore Sr. voted no on?

You can't have "post-racial" America if "post-racial" America means ethnic spoils and identity celebration for everyone but whites.
