Certainly an intervention wouldn’t solve the crisis! And even if it is meant to warn Bashar al-Assad, there are other and better options. One is trying to submit to the Security Council a resolution to denounce Bashar to the ICC. It could be too hard to convince Russia not to veto, but it would certainly be easier than convincing this country to support an intervention. Besides, it would be too much helpful to improve US international credibility.

I fear, however that Obama has talked himself into a corner.
He does talk an awful lot you know!
He also tends to obfuscate in his loquaciousness.
He might have done better to reserve these types of discourse to the hallowed halls of academe.

With Russia or Assad unwilling to consider a transition of power? What have all the efforts at negotiation over the past two and one half years accomplished. Been there, done that. That’s not to say military action is the answer, but let’s not pretend diplomacy is an alternative. The alternative is stepping back and letting force and politics on the ground resolve things.

John McCain’s mini-me John Kerry became Secretary of State. That’s what happened to diplomacy.
